First time buyer
I just purchased my first home through JCP and would strongly recommend them to anyone looking to purchase in Oxford. JCP have very good housing stock and were professional in my dealings with them. There were the occasional times when they were difficult to get hold of to book a viewing (I needed the agent managing a particular property) and it would be useful if the team could manage tasks like these between them.

exellent experience with JCP
I rented the house in Oxford from 2021 to 2024 with the help of JCP. As you know, it is very hard during the lock down. They always can give me the effective response and find a solution for me, whenever I need help in maintainlance and refund. They are very considerable and reliable. I think I am very lucky that I can have JCP helping me.

Nice agent but horrible landlord. 71A Walton St nightmare.
The agent is good. But the landlord is a very mean person. Do not rent flat 71A Walton St from JCP. I stayed in the UK for many years, as a research fellow. This is the first time I meet such a horrible person in the UK, even in the world. She is mean and ask unreasonable requests when you are still there, e.g. return the flat back as it was. Why? I am still living here, how she can ask me what to do in the flat. She also tries to find ways to make you live in the flat uncomfortably, e.g. you have to clean the flat, do not make it dirty, clean the window, do not open the window when you leave home... She keeps an eye on your daily life, now I think this is a reason why she do not change her mailing address. All her mails were sent to our flat. She come and pick up her mails. She is good when we moved in, then become bad when we will move out. I think this is her trick to keep your deposit. Also the flat is small and old. Most facilities work less efficient, the shower is horrible, the heater is extremely expensive in the winter. The rent + electricity + council tax is very high for a single person to live. The agent should remove this flat from their website, do not let others get hurt from such a landlord.

As an agency, our role, for this flat, is to provide a let only service and we do not manage the property or handle the day-to-day interactions between tenant and landlord. Therefore, we were not aware of the concerns you raised before reading your review. We take all feedback seriously and have tried to reach out to you to discuss this matter further.
We understand your frustration regarding the landlord's requests and behaviour. Returning a flat to its original condition at the end of tenancy (excusing fair wear and tear) is a standard practice but we appreciate that the way it is communicated can greatly affect your experience. We will take your comments into consideration when advising landlords in the future.
Regarding the condition of the flat and the costs associated with living there, we encourage all tenants of let only properties to share any maintenance issues or concerns about living expenses with their landlords directly, so they can address them promptly.

We rented our apartment through JCPenny at Jericho Oxford. Anna McKay in Lettings couldn’t have been more helpful or efficient, she navigated us through some tricky situations most efficiently yet with calm dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for Anna, she made the stressful task of renting an apartment (in a most sought after area of Oxford) that much simpler. Jacob at the JCP Lettings office has been a rock to us. Without his most polite and diligent back up at all times we would have found this renting process infinitely more frustrating. He is a real an asset to the company. Needless to say whilst we had no direct contact with Jasmin at admin , she held fort incredibly well to make the process possible.

Outstanding customer service from Jacob
Having to correspond with JCP Estate Agents on numerous occasions due to my daughter wanting to relinquish her student tenancy it was Jacob who was definitely the star of the company… he was courteous and efficient in every aspect and would always return my calls during the process.. which involved a change of tenancy and the retuning of house deposits etc.
Nothing was too much trouble for Jacob and he truly is a credit to the company.

Terrible experience
When viewing property to rent would book holiday off work to make 2hr trip to Oxford to view house. Twice the viewing was frustratingly cancelled with less than 1hrs notice due to tenants either cancelling or no longer being present and estate agent didn't have spare set of keys.
Very poor communication when asked if we could extend tenancy by 1 month. Arranged it ourselves with the landlord since JCP never got back to us.
By end of tenancy, many many viewings were repeatedly booked in for the next day (most with less than 24hrs notice) without checking if that was okay with us (we WFH and have regularly have calls/meetings). We pushed back on this and were told we somewhat owed them for arranging the tenancy extension...
After moving out landlord promptly emailed them saying they were happy to return the full deposit. Had to wait nearly 4 weeks for the deposit to be returned despite numerous calls. Apparently only one person in the office was capable of returning the deposit and was constantly on various holidays and never got round to sorting the deposit on the days they were in. JCP rarely told us the full picture and usually kept saying it would be paid the next day...
I know estate agents usually get a bad rep but JCP are genuinely without a doubt the worst estate agents I've ever had the misfortune to have to interact with. No communication when you need it but rapid responses when it suits them.

We are very sorry to hear about your experience and the frustrations you encountered. It is unacceptable that your viewings were cancelled with such short notice, especially considering the effort you made to travel to Oxford. We understand how disruptive this must have been and apologise for the inconvenience.
Regarding the communication issues you faced during your tenancy extension, we apologise for not providing the support you needed. It is disappointing to learn that you had to arrange this directly with the landlord due to our lack of response.
We also apologise for the repeated last-minute viewings scheduled during your work-from-home hours. This lack of consideration for your schedule was not acceptable and we understand how this would have been very disruptive. The comment about "owing" us for arranging the extension was entirely inappropriate and we have taken steps to ensure such situations do not happen in the future.
The delay in returning your deposit is also unacceptable. We strive to process deposits promptly and the situation you described is not reflective of our standards. We have reviewed our internal processes to prevent such delays and ensure better communication with our tenants.

Terrible to deal with
Terrible to deal with, rude and uncooperative. My daughter moved in with her friends and the property was filthy although it was supposed to have had a professional clean. When they all moved out the property was left in a far cleaner state with all parents helping however the agents kept a huge percentage of the deposit for ridiculous reasons. We all took photos of the sparkling toilets, limescale free showers etc however after months of prevaricating they sent a report showing a different set of photos, including black-stained toilets saying that's how it was left. My daughter phoned to complain but they were incredibly rude and threatening and we all decided to cut our losses rather than have the students fight it in court, which is what they bank on I guess.

However, decisions regarding deposit deductions are ultimately made by the landlord, not by our agency. We are required to follow the landlord's instructions and guidelines regarding the condition of the property at the end of the tenancy.
We strive to ensure that all parties are treated fairly and that deposit deductions are made in accordance with the terms of the tenancy agreement and applicable legislation. We provide evidence and reports to landlords based on our inspections but the final decision on deposit deductions rests with them.

I can only agree with the shambolic service others have received. Unclean house, broken furniture, slug infestation, mould, ill fitting and broken furnishings. Do not rent from this company they are shameful and will blatantly lie to your face to tell you that they are fixing your problems - with no actual outcome.
