Worst payroll company
Worst payroll company. Poor customer service and Justworks staff is untrained and has done so many errors in our payroll! This company is going to shut down soon if this is how they keep continuing. We stopped using them.
Signed up for the basic subscription…
Signed up for the basic subscription but have been getting charged at max rate. Never signed off on it and they can't explain it, wont fix it, and put you through loops to get to customer support. Now am getting fined for "late fees" even though I am auto-debited. They do not know what they're doing and their product does not work.

It's been a month, and I'm still waiting for a response to an issue, even though I was told on January 16 that I would hear back in a day or two. I've followed up, and still no response. This does not appear to be a company that cares about its customers.
Just Doesn't Work
This may be the worst company I have ever worked with. They have been late in paying my employees every single time. They refuse to respond to my emails other than saying that "Someone will look into this matter." I have been trying to get my employee paid or get them to reimburse the money they took from my account for over 60 days. Using this company is the worst decision I have ever made, don't make the same mistake.
Pros & Cons
Pros - One set price per month for payroll service base services. Cons - if you are on the West Coast you have to pay for upgraded service to get support during normal business hours since they operate out of New York their staff is not available outside of Eastern business hours 8a - 4p which means West Coast only has support until 1pm. Reports are not always accurate. Have had to message support several times to review accrued time off balances.
Would give 0 stars if I could
Would give 0 stars if I could. Working with their support team is a nightmare and nothing gets fixed. Particularly related to my FSA and their inability to provide any working card or fix technical issues - they are essentially holding my FSA funds hostage.
Do not recommend
We recently moved from Gusto to JustWorks, transition experience went well. But the customer support is slow and unresponsive even to urgent matters.
When I chatted with the support specialist and followed the instructions to find the necessary information, the chat window disappeared and never got back on the page.
There were also wrong deductions found.

I terminated my onboarding as a business customer and send Justworks this which I do not have confidence will be received by anyone:
My company was excited to come on board but after the poor handling of onboarding by Jesse Lussier-Gan, we have decided to switch to another company.
Specifically, Jesse seems to be someone who wants to "set it and forget it", he seemed to be surprised I had questions beyond our first brief phone call and was visibly annoyed by this. The onboarding he sent me was confusing and contradicted the information he provided (needing to apply for worker's comp for the owners and applying for health insurance we didn't need).
I simply attempted to reach him several times to clear this up, The customer service numbers all directed me back to him, and he refused to call me back. After asking me to find a time on his calendar (again a red flag of significant avoidance of responsibility and role) instead of simply calling my number, he put a calendar hold during another meeting I had on my calendar which i moved in order to speak with him.
In that meeting he refused to take responsibility for his actions and in fact lied during the meeting which is what ultimately made me realize i can't work with this company. He clearly stated that despite his calendar link showing he had numerous available blocks all day "he couldn't call me because he was busy".
I strongly recommend Jesse receive significant training on how to handle leads and potential customers. I cannot recommend Justworks to any of the companies I advise or have a role in directly.
Customer service is useless
Customer service is useless. They pass you around from one person to the next and no one is accountable for supporting your business. They say they are open 24/7 yet when they neglected to pay our team on 7/3 no one could be found until 7/7. They take no accountability and do an awful job communicating. They screwed up paying payroll taxes and the state came after us. I would never recommend them for a company that cared about managing this in a professional way.

Flagrant Non-compliance
I was a remote employee whose wages were incorrectly reported to New York despite not living or working there in 2024. Justworks acknowledged they were processing W-2c corrections for other employees but refused to fix mine, despite legal risk and financial harm it caused me.
Their customer service team repeatedly confused me with someone else (addressing messages to another name entirely) and failed to take action for over 2 months. I’ve had to escalate to the IRS and state departments. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from a company responsible for payroll compliance.
Disappointing Experience with(out) Benefits and Support
I’ve had an incredibly frustrating experience with Justworks. While my 401k is managed by a third party, Justworks' platform allowed the wrong salary information to be used, which lowered my contribution.
Their therapy benefit (Talkspace) is misleading—I was promised a free session and unlimited messaging, but one time the session expired before I could use it, and the messaging didn’t function as advertised.
Through the benefit Health Advocate, I was also told I had 3 free EAP therapy sessions per year, but in 2024 I somehow received 3 without any receipts. They were also supposed to schedule an eye exam, but I was incorrectly charged a copay and gaslit for months before it was acknowledged.
Most concerning of all, Justworks repeatedly contacted my employer despite my explicit request not to. When I’ve tried to address these issues publicly on social media, they’ve blocked me instead of helping. I’ve been left without support or accountability.
Customer support is not helpful
Customer support is responsive, but not helpful. I have been sent on 4 different chat conversations but none actually helped. Customer representatives send you to different departments without assisting at all...
No obesity meds, horrible customer service
Unfortunately, Justworks does not value its customers enough to provide access to obesity medications via its Aetna health plans. Not providing these medications discriminates against those with obesity, which is classified as a disease and leads to significant health issues. We have begged for these options and they refuse.
Their health insurance customer service is quite simple, but abysmal. It's always "call Aetna" or "call Health Advocate." We can never get past the level 1 customer service reps and talk to their back office health insurance experts, i.e., the people who negotiate with the insurance plans they offer.
We have firmly asked to speak to their insurance staff and they refuse. Lots of runaround.
They don't provide a yes or no answer, nor any explanation. Their customer service doesn't have the expertise to answer our questions. Then they go talk "to the team" -- the very people we want to talk to directly -- and things get lost in translation, or our questions are never answered at all. I have made it my mission to get my boss to leave this company.
Thieves
Steal from the companies that enroll with them and have no shame about it. We cancelled our service are were still charged for benefits for the following month event though we provided ample notice and did an off boarding call to confirm the date benefits would stop. When we asked for a refund, they said that we would have to wait for a month until the next invoice and would not pay interest on the money they illegally debited from our account.
They also do not seem to understand how to process ERTC refunds, provide incorrect and misleading information for over two years.

It's a nominal amount of money, and I am able to simply cash out without losing it all. So, every statement I see it dwindle away. It's really laughable that this company poises itself as a retirement fund, it's nothing but a scam operation. Any employers considering using them should avoid Justworks. Because it justdoesn'twork.
Don't ever use these guys
They over charge us every month, won't give us specifics. Then gaslight us when we try to get support. I've submitted two tickets in the last 24 hours and they can't find either of them and their only solution is for me to submit another one. Presumably so they can lose that one as well.
Stay away. Stay far away!!!
Highly recommend Justworks!
Justworks has made onboarding, offboarding, raises, time off etc. so much easier for our small company. The platform is easy to navigate for admin and employees. We've been using it for less than a year and the difference it has made to workflow has had a really positive impact. Their support team is very responsive and helpful as well.
Best customer service
Best customer service! Also, the site is much easier to use as an admin compared to other HRIS/PEO systems we have in the past. This has reduced time for us on tasks such as payroll and also reduced errors. The extra benefits they add for our employees is much appreciated as well.
So far so good.
Justworks was easy to get into and easy to maintain. Stress of dealing with employees in multiple states has been easier as well.
