I have owned a Mini Cooper S R56 for a number of years. I really like my shiny silver car, with its red leather interior and enjoyable performance. The car is approaching 80k miles and for the last six thousand, I have become aware that it is using too much engine oil and increasingly smoking. Spring is well upon us, so I have ‘bit the bullet’ and decided to do something about it.

After quite a bit of effort the engine and gearbox have been removed and the engine stripped down to all its nuts, bolts and bearings. Lots and lots of cleaning and measuring revealed failures in the oil scraper rings and the valve stem seals; serious failures. Everything else seems fine. The backs of the eight inlet valves looked like the lungs of a sixty year old who has been smoking 20 Woodbines a day for the last forty five years. (Showing my aged here!).

What had gone wrong…. Simply BMW must have had a bad design day in choosing a Peugeot PSA engine for this car rather than one of their own making. Part of the oil scraper ring system is made of plastic, yes plastic! No wonder they fail. The valve stem seals are also, crap in their design and quality.

Now enter MAR Motorsport, a firm who I had never previously heard of. Over the last couple of weeks an almost endless stream of parcels and packages have been arriving at my home. All containing replacement items for my rebuild from tip top Branded Manufacturers supplied by MAR at very competitive prices indeed. It has been a pleasure to be a customer of such a knowledgeable and well stocked firm who treat you with great respect. A week ago a simple problem occurred with one of the deliveries and a call to MAR was quickly answered by David, who engaged to tackle the problem with friendly professionalism and promptly resolved the matter. A replacement part arrived the following morning. This kind of ‘can do culture’ is really helpful when blips occur in a pretty complicated overall process.

Further products continue to be delivered and my rebuild is progressing well. Brilliant service. Ordered some Mini bits on Thursday evening but forgot to specify delivery. I sent an email which was responded to first thing on Friday morning. All sorted, dispatched the same day, arriving on the Saturday.

i had paid £12 for a 2day delivery the items as i was in a hurry to get the parts. when the parts didn't arrive until the third day, i asked for £12 to be refunded, MAR Motorsport refunded the £12 no problem. They were easy to deal with dealt my complaint promptly. I would have no hesitation in dealing with them again. I would highly recommend them.

I've always preferred to use a specialist when it comes to precision parts like crank bearings, rod bearings etc.. My point is that when you shop online for parts that you require like ebay and amazon you end up paying twice because the majority of the time they sell counterfeit parts at half the price of what you'd pay at specialists. I've come across mar motorsport a couple of months ago and there prices are much more reasonable than the specialists I was using beforehand! So if you are looking to save money.. don't pay once and buy twice on counterfeit parts!! Marmotorsport are specialists and the cheaper alternative and you get quality genuine parts. 😊😊😊
