Purchased a Painting - Received a Magazine Page

I wanted to share my negative experience when using Offer-Up for the first time.
I had purchased a painting and received a magazine page. Additionally, the glass in the frame was broken. I reported the issue within the 2 days “Protection” time window. Offer-Up provided a label but because I was not able to send it back within 7 days, they are advising me now I am not eligible for refund.
I am putting it out there if someone else received items that were not as advertised. In my case, it was a framed magazine page !
Republic Act No. 7394 was enacted primarily to protect the consumers against hazards to health and safety, and against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts and practices.
No return policy will be applicable in case of fraudulent activities but yet, Offer-Up does not want to take the responsibility.

Worst scammiest webste ever

Worst scammiest website ever. Worse than craigslist. Used to be a bit better but as scammers get more sophisticated, it's nearly impossible to tell whether you are getting a scammer responding or if you want to buy, whether the item being sold is by a scammer. I've had absolutely zero luck doing buying or selling.
Total waste of time.
You're better off doing fb marketplace which is a tad bit better.
Beware! Scammers CONGREGATE here.

DON’T CLICK ON THE 3 DAY FREE TRIAL!!!! Is merely a scam! They immediately charge u $19.99 and u are left wondering how they got your charge card information!!! They told me they get it from Apple Pay. Plus, u can’t cancel. Nowhere to cancel! Here is my OfferUp request number which is useless because u get no refund. In case anyone starts a class action suit I want to join in. Support Request # 103062920.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I’m sorry to hear about the frustration you’ve encountered with the Promote Plus trial.

After reviewing your account and chat history, it looks like you signed up for the 3-day free trial on Nov 23rd. To activate the trial, a card on file with the App Store is required, and it’s important to cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. Since the subscription wasn’t canceled by Nov 26th, your card was charged. Please know that we don’t have access to your card information, as that’s managed through the App Store.

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to cancel your subscription directly through the App Store, as we’re not able to do that on your behalf. Our support agent shared the steps for managing your subscription with you via email this past Thursday, Nov 28th. After you’ve successfully canceled, your Promote Plus subscription and the associated benefits will remain active until they expire on Dec 23rd.

We truly aim to provide the best support and a positive experience for all our users, and we kindly ask that all communication stays respectful. Our team works hard to assist everyone, and we want to ensure a pleasant environment for everyone involved.

I was informed yesterday that my item was deleted …

I was informed yesterday that my post for selling an Antelope taxidermy head was deleted due to their Prohibited Items Guidelines but yet 2 other “same” items remain for sale. Offer Up explained you are not allowed to sell, gift, rehome or adopt LIVE animals. This Antelope was hunted legally with a valid hunting license. No where on my posting description do I imply that it is a live animal. I listed as wall decor. Antelope are not endangered.
I expressed my concern that they may be using an artificial intelligence algorithm to locate questionable items on their platform and should have a human review each case before they arbitrarily delete the post.
I addressed the issue with them via email and reported the other 2 similar items and told them I would file a complaint with the
FCC if they didn’t remove the other posts,
they threatened me that they would close my account if I continued to comment or complain.
I feel that my item was tastefully posted, it is a beautiful piece of artwork and was listed at a reasonable and fair price.
I agree with others that have posted that some items are shown in poor context, dirty, used and/or just disgusting.
While OfferUp is operating a commercial platform they should have resources in place to reach out to Sellers and give them a chance to rewrite descriptions/headings before they delete posted, legal, items. There are many other
platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace that are very good competitors that look forward to your business.
Please look into those other companies if you are dissatisfied with the OfferUp platform.
If your item is fairly priced, try these other avenues of selling.
Or have a really good Garage Sale!

Banned on OfferUp, don’t know why

I received notice that I’m being banned from OfferUp for somehow violating community guidelines and posting rules. I have no idea how I violated anything. The only thing I can think of is the background choice I used to post some hand me down’s from my daughters clothes. I used Pixel cut to make a prettier background to post some hand me downs children’s clothes. I made sure to edit out the Pixel cut logo from the background pic. So I’m super confused as to how I violated anything and the email was unprofessional after I asked how did I violate anything upon which they wouldn’t elaborate, but after reading all the reviews NOW, it’s best it happened now rather than later or else I would’ve gotten scammed. Just wish I read the reviews earlier. OfferUp is absolute trash.

CS is so horrible and frustrating I’m a seller on offer up and tell me why you already gotten my money and the buyer already reviews the order within the 2 days space and it’s almost 2 month now and I am still yet to get paid for the item this is been going on and it need to stop I need my money

Empty delivery, not reliable

Worst experience after using them many times and still using them, but I bought something for $35 that the only thing I received was an empty bubble envelope! I contacted offer up many times and explained everything and didn’t do anything, saying that the 2 day inspection period had ended and that was only for merely hours and gave them all the evidence and stuff never did anything

Don’t give them your credit card…

With all the One star reviews I think all of us need to get together and file a class action lawsuit against this company. They are not transparent. They do not want to be helpful in anyway form you’re talking to them they send you a link you click on it. You’re lucky if you get a second to review it this is not the way to run a business class action lawsuit is the way to go?
Don’t give them your credit card because they charge it claiming to give you a three day free trial. Put OfferUp out of business they are not legitimate or transparent. There’s no way to get a hold of them.

Since sellers are responsible for updating their listings, please keep in mind that they may forget to update an item's availability, or may not be actively checking their notifications. To help, I recommend messaging the seller beforehand to confirm availability, especially when using the Buy It Now feature.

Worse place to sell anything

Worse place to sell anything. Going down hill fast. Do not use this app you will be very very disappointed. They bought out let go I sold on let go. I can’t sell anything on offer up. All they want is advertisers. So by using this app you’re just allowing them to use you to get new advertising customers. Just using us sellers and buyers as Guinea pigs to do their dirty work. Worse app ever. Facebook you can get triple the money. And have people willing to be fair. All failure here. They suck.

Scammed by someone Offerup verified as a TruYou seller

I had the unfortunate experience of getting scammed after purchasing a MacBook off of OfferUp. The seller had TruYou verification which you would think would make you feel safe in your transaction, but it seems like just about anybody can get the badge.

When I had contacted OfferUp support about the matter, they gave me no help in retrieving my funds and no followup explanation on what happened with the user. A very frustrating experience with no resolution. I would have hoped some accountability would have been taken given OfferUp had verified a scammer.

Refused to give refund for $300 fake Dyson even with proof

Offerup claims to offer a 2-day refund policy if an item is shipped and has issues. I bought a Dyson Airwrap and had it shipped, and it arrived at 11am on Monday. I had work on Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesday morning I was able to go to the Dyson store and get proof that it was fake. I submitted a refund request at 12pm but since it had been 49 hours they told me to kick rocks, and they just happily gave my money to a scammer with no way to get it back except asking the scammer really nicely. Nowhere on their website did they say that the refund policy was EXACTLY 48 hours, and it's crazy that they won't help you AT ALL if you tell them even an hour too late that they sold you a piece of junk.

I was banned by offer up for violating their terms of service without ever trying to buy or sell anything and their customer service department appears to simply be an illusion. Worst app ever. Facebook marketplace is soooo much better.

While we do have paid options to promote listings, most people sell without spending a dime. Adding detailed photos, an accurate description, and fair pricing really helps your items stand out. Plus, quick responses go a long way to keep buyers interested and build up your profile as a trusted seller.

If an item isn’t moving, sometimes refreshing it with new photos or updating the details does the trick. Little adjustments can make all the difference!

A Once-Great Marketplace Ruined by Ads, Glitches, and Scams

Emma, I appreciate the response (NOT REALLY), but it only solidifies why I’m moving on from OfferUp. Ads are a necessary part of free apps, but they shouldn’t make using the app unbearable. Suggesting a subscription to avoid disruptions feels out of touch, especially when these issues weren’t so problematic before the merger with Letgo. The frequent glitches with posting, editing, and even basic functionality are only magnified by these ads. As for reviews, whether they're disabled or not, the inflated rating is misleading given how much OfferUp has changed. At this point, even well-meaning responses like yours come off as dismissive rather than helpful.

I used to love OfferUp, but it’s time to move on. Since merging with Letgo, this app has been on a steep decline. The ad overload is unbearable—not just simple banners, but pop-up ads that completely interrupt the user experience. I'm all for ads to support a product, but OfferUp has gone too far. Even basic searches are now filled with irrelevant results, similar to Letgo's past issues.

Posting and editing listings is hit-or-miss. Sometimes it lets me edit, sometimes it doesn't. And photo uploads? Good luck—it can take half an hour just to post one item because of constant glitches. Add to that the rampant scams and fake listings that go unchecked, and it's just not worth the hassle anymore.

What’s most frustrating? They’ve disabled reviews on Google Play, so that inflated 4.4-star rating is incredibly misleading. It's as if they know the app is failing and want to hide it. OfferUp had so much potential, but without major improvements, it’s just become an annoying, unreliable mess.

Free or don’t post here. This is not a buying place.

It’s not for sellers for sure. I post something and you better be sure you want to get rid of it. OfferUp does not post well for sellers just free stuff. And when it’s free people think they do have the right to it and actually get upset if someone else took it! Despite being free. But you put a price tag and no one wants it. It’s the worse place to sell. I’ve been a member and sold a few for les than $50 for something that’s with $500 just to get rid of something. Better of Craigslist there’s actually good buyers here. OfferUp just does not do justice unless you want to give away.
