I am sorry to say that the site is indeed a scam. First, when i was shopping and buying the chair, it never says that the chairs are “refurbished.” Second, after I had bought the chair and started searching for more information, I did find a separate fine-print page that said they are refurbished. Ok, I thought, it could still be fine. However, when the so-called “Humanscale Freedom” chair arrived, it looked nothing like the Humanscale Freedom chair I already own. Even though the frame did have “Humanscale” on it, this was likely the only original part. The cushions were made of cheap smelly vynil with little padding - nothing like the comfortable leather in the original chair. The headrest that i ordered with it is supposed to be attached with wood screws, which is pretty much impossible to do and definitely not how the original works. So it seems the company is taking the concept of “refurbished” to an extreme - it could have one piece of the brand and get the brand name. If you want a cheap office chair, buy one on Amazon for half the price. If you want a good comfortable office chair, buy the original. No point wasting your money on these knock-offs that look and feel nothing like the brands they purport to be

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! The chair they sent to me is obviously very old and also broken. The base of the seat is cracked and had been previously glued back together. I didn't realize it until it broke and it was after the 30 return period. They are claiming chairs are 'refurbished' but they are not that at all, they are junk, garbage, total crap.
Website is misleading with ‘money back guarantee’. Customer service is email only and snarky. Go to Better Business Bureau online and look them up, you'll see that there are MANY complaints of the same nature. Wish I did that first. Lesson learned and out $299.
UPDATE: I do not want a replacement seat for a chair that also has an arm that falls down and is basically NOT refurbished. What about your website claim of ‘money back guarantee’.
I would settle for a replacement chair but you can’t even do that. P.S. January is not many, many months ago. A supposedly ‘refurbished’ chair should last more than 3.5 months’

HORRIBLE company. RUN!!!
After reading these reviews, I realized I made a mistake and tried to cancel my order; I sent a note to cancel 30 minutes after placing the order. I immediately got a salesy email saying they could upgrade my chair to a new model for $100. I said, "Please cancel the order." Then I got another note saying, they upgraded it because I asked for new. I responded, "I did not ask for an upgrade. Please just cancel." Then I got a notice saying "Why did you order it if you did not want it?" I kid you not. I said, "Please cancel it." Finally, they wrote back, "We will cancel the order, but there is a 35 percent cancellation fee." Oh my God. Really? I knew there could not be a fee like that. I contacted my credit card company and asked what my options were. They did refund the total paid. And if they try to charge the card, Chase is going to dispute it. And if they do, I will just get a new card. But really, what a horrible company. WHy would I want to do business with a company that is so mean and rude?

Beware❗️🆘 Office Chair @ Work is not a legitimate company. DO MOT ORDER. You won’t receive your expected order. You won’t be able to communicate w/ them... the phone # offered only has recording. Their e-mail correspondence is insulting. They lie about shipping. They lie about crediting your account after you cancel. Then they lie responding to reviews. If you associate yourself w/ this company, you’ll experience what is being described.

Has potential, but overall lots going wrong here
Overall, this company has a lot of potential and happy customers, but in my book comes up way short because of their underhanded tactics and off-putting customer service.
This company specializes in refurbished/"restored" chairs. That's great! All the great e-commerce websites like Amazon make it extremely obvious when you are browsing/buying refurbished goods As long as you know this when you are purchasing, you may find a great deal. There's a big market of customers looking for refurbished goods.
However, for OCAW, they don't make this nearly obvious enough to customers, which causes a lot of headache for customers and themselves. There's literally only one spot that tells you about the chair's condition and it is tucked away in the item's "Additional Information" (not even in the "Description!"). It really should be plastered on the home page of the web site, or at least under the title on the item page.
In addition, every chair is advertised as being under a "Last Chance Sale" - a typical "dark pattern". These are not in any way "Last Chance" - they are the permanent prices! However, this tactic gives off the impression that the "regular" price will return soon.
Given these two major tactics, any given customer could easily have the impression that these are new chairs that just happen to be discounted at a lucky time.
The good thing about customer service is that they are responsive. They don't seem to take more than a day to respond, sometimes even a few hours.
The bad thing about customer service is that they will give you an attitude if you are one of those customers that happened to think the chairs were new, as if you are stupid for thinking that. Look at the other Trustpilot reviews - this happens way too often (both the assumption and the attitude from OCAW customer service). I would not be surprised if this review gets a snappy response from them :)
Another fishy item is that there isn't a single review at 3 stars or below on their website. I think it's a good assumption that any "Verified Review" on their website is basically a review they deemed a high enough rating, and nothing more.
If they were to just get rid of all the underhanded tactics, they would deal with a lot fewer unhappy customers, saving frustration for customers and themselves. Maybe the assumption is that people looking for new will buy and accept the refurbished item anyway. They probably get the chairs at low enough cost that the shipping isn't bothering them. But again, an underhanded tactic. Hence the Trustpilot overall rating of 2.4 at the time of this writing.
This site is not a scam
This site is not a scam. I was hesitant at first after reading so many reviews that seemed negative. However, the big picture is that the chairs are not new they are preowned and repaired. Some may come with a scuff or a scratch but the mechanisms work as they should. I bought two chairs from the company a SteelCase and an HM Aeron. The SteelCase came first as the high demand for Aeron means you HAVE TO WAIT. (which seems impossible for people who are used to Amazon). The return policy starts as soon as the chair arrives and the company would like to know if there are any issues 24 hours upon arrival. That way they know if the issue was due to shipping, and most issues they would prefer to send a part for repair than returning the chair. I emailed the company multiple times to ensure I understood there terms & conditions and they were always quick to respond and concise.
I think this company has received a bad reputation from people wh:
1. Thought the chairs were brand new. (look at the price, these are not going to be new)
2. Made demands that were ridiculous and expected the company to cave to avoid a bad review.
I am writing this review because the number of reviews I feel are inaccurate or skewed is unfair to the company.

I'm really upset they advertise that these chairs are refurbished, when they clearly not.
This chair is heavily used and poorly reupholstered, not refurbished.
I should have done my research and ordered from a place that actually refurbishes their chairs.
Just sitting here trying to dismantle this chair to ship it back to them seeing all the grime under the seat and hair inside the caster wheels.
This is disgusting. I can't believe I bought this for 500 dollars. I feel like I was scammed big time.
Now I am working through the return process and apparently returns are not free. Also from all the reviews on here it sounds like they will either be holding my payment hostage or only initiating a partial refund.
Might be time to write to the BBB about this company.
edit: I've now just been notified by customer service that due a negative review, they will be holding my refund until I remove the bad review.

Horrible Customer Service!!! 0 Stars!
If you value quality customer service, STAY AWAY from OfficeChair@Work. I have been trying for over a month to get a full refund for a chair I returned (they issued 50%). They hide behind email and will not speak with you directly. I purchased 2 chairs – the first was my mistake because I ordered a chair with fixed arms and they were not high enough for me (I’m 6’4”). I returned that chair without issue. The second chair is where I ran into problems. I ordered another Herman Miller Aeron with adjustable arms this time and the other key feature I liked, based on the video on their site, was the ability to lock in the forward position. The chair I received would not lock in that position, so I traded email with a “customer service” rep and she told me, "No it does NOT LOCK in the forward position. Dream on. If you don't like the chair, return it!" (WOW!) At no time did she indicate I would not be receiving a full refund (as the site states). Her words: “We do not allow testing chair. You returned 2 chairs you were charged the restocking fee per our terms of service. You bought a chair without adjustable arms so that is what you got.” It gets better, after I argued my case she replied, “Sorry, nothing is defective.” I asked to have a manager call me…crickets. I called the 800 number and asked the same….crickets. So now, I have no chair and am out $350. Never doing business with this company again!!!!
Based on the company's response, it's clear they have no interest in working with customers to resolve issues. The second chair was DEFECTIVE based on a video on their website! I do not consider returning a defective chair "trying it out". Sad.

Good: Full Refund! Bad: Far too big a hassle to obtain!
I will start with confirming that I received a full refund for a returned chair. That by itself should receive a "Five-Star Rating." However, I'm only giving a "Three-Star Rating" for the following reasons: 1.) The chair I ordered arrived in a box that contained ONLY the chair...no instructions for use, no return instructions, and no instructions for assembling the back to the seat. 2.) There is absolutely no need to include a phone number for customer service on the website because it was never answered by a real person in any of the 22 attempts I made to reach the company. 3.) It took me multiple emails to finally resolve my problem and obtain the refund even as I was admonished to stop being "stubborn" with my multiple requests for assistance. If you want to risk going through the hassle I had, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT CHAIR YOU ARE ORDERING, AND WITHOUT QUESTION MAKE SURE THAT YOU ACTUALLY SIT IN A MODEL BEFORE ORDERING!!!!!!

This company is fraudulent. Please don't buy any chairs. There is no customer service and whatever they are advertising is all bogus.
Where is your customer service? You send me chair after more than month. I used your chair only for 3 weeks and I returned your chair. Fraudulent company which should be shut down.

No customer support
No customer support. It seems to be all automated, definitely not personal, at all. No person answers the phone. The email support is a cut and paste copy of the same thing stated in their order confirmation. If I could give this business 0 stars I would.
Their snippy reply below pretty much sums up their attitude towards quality customer service. The email they sent so quickly was a cut and paste of the identical information found on their website. Probably a robo email.
There is a basic level of customer service expected when you have prepaid a purchase over $500. This company does not get that from my experience.
They give you no options to speak to someone on the phone. Their lack of customer service seems to be an ongoing issue. Buyer BEWARE!

If I could give this business 0 stars I would. I needed a Herman Miller Aeron office chair, found their website and based on their full warranty, money back guarantee, and shipment times (during the pandemic 10-20 business days) I placed my order. After purchasing, I received an email with a completely different shipping time than was stated on their website and my receipt. I reached out via email and they said I needed to pay an additional $99 to have expedited shipping despite what their website and receipt stated. I needed a chair, so I PayPal'd the money. Fast forward 6 months later and the up/down feature on my chair has gone out. I have emailed 3 times, called over 6 times and have received absolutely NO RESPONSE to a company that I paid $600 to for a chair. Their lack of customer service seems to be an ongoing issue per the BBB and had I seen their BBB profile and their responses to the complaints, I would have NEVER purchased from this company. Buyer BEWARE!

I ordered my chair as a Christmas present for myself during the pandemic. Working from home sitting in a chair with pillows for comfort is not a long term solution. I found a refurbished Steelcase Amia on the website and it has very good reviews for petite women. I ordered it and I wasn't sure when I would get the chair. Customer Care was very quick at responding to my email and send me a tracking number. I just received the chair yesterday in a box with two pieces and 4 screws. It was very easy to put together. The chair is in very good condition. I am very happy to be sitting comfortably when I am working and no more back pain!
Patience is a virtue... good things come to those who wait.
Considering the demand for high quality office chairs to everyone now working at home.... my experience with ordering an Aeron Chair has not been bad. I've read dozens of hateful reviews all talking about how long it took to get the chair... and how troublesome it was to get refunded when people refused to wait... and I became worried myself. But they did send me the chair and their customer service was excellent as I had problems with the hardware... and when the cushion came undone only days after purchase, they promptly send me a new base... so all I have to say, is be patient... I know I wanted my chair in 4 days like I'd read... but once they wrote to say it was backordered for 40 days... I just accepted it... and sure enough 39 days later, I've got my chair. Life too short to get stuck up about instant gratification.... put your big boy pants on an deal with it. Yes, their adverts were misleading about the quick turnaround... but... I'm guessing if it wasn't a global pandemic with millions now working from home.... they'd get your chair to you soon enough.

I risked to buy a chair there and order processing took 18 days, despite the claims that regular chairs processing time doesn't exceed 4 days. Support (email only) is clueless and has no idea when order is going to be shipped or even what's declared processing time is. What's good that they finally sent the chair and UPS delivered it just in 2 days. The chair is clean, condition is fair and while you can spot that it's not new at all it had no major issues.

I wanted to give a negative rating to Office Chair @ Work. I've never encountered a fraud company like this. I returned my defective chair and Office Chair received that on 21-May-2020.
I've provided all the FedEx documentation as proof of return in June'2020 to Customer Service. I am still waiting to get a refund of $449.
I do not recommend this Office Chair @ Work to anyone.

I would give a zero if possible. Their guarantee of free return and money back is a lie. I received $157 less than I paid for the chair I returned. I also received an email stating “please do not buy another chair from us or there will be a 50% additional charge on that chair.”

Herman Miller Reconditioned Chair
We ordered a reconditioned Herman Miller chair for my wife's desk as she was having back problems with her existing chair. The chair was delivered by UPS on the 15th working day after order as was promised. Its condition was like new with no scuffs, marks, or any other signs of wear. It had been shipped with excellent protection and arrived fully assembled. My wife is thrilled with her "new" chair and is experiencing no more back issues. We contacted the company twice to learn the status of the order and received very cordial and helpful immediate responses both times from Kaytlyn in their customer support department. I read several positive and several negative review of this company, but our experience was very positive, deserving a five-star rating in quality and service.
