Disgustingly over-priced

Just having a browse online I'm absolutely disgusted at the prices, they are selling second hand mens Jeans (with buttons missing in some cases) for a higher price then they were new 10 years ago. They are either completely out of touch with prices or deliberately trying to rip people off. I fear it's the latter. An absolute con of a set up , charity or not.

Cheaper to buy brand new

Do they not realise the majority of people who buy from charity shops don't have tonnes of money and then to see the majority of the online prices are higher than retail price, what has happened here? Is it just greed because it sure as hell looks like it, I noticed prices was rising when I used to go into the shops but wow they're bad now, never met pleasant staff either if I'm honest amd if you ever asked for a bag to carry multiple items you nearly die by the look you get.... boycotting from now on like

Not Good Enough

I ordered Christmas cards on 4th December. Still no sign of them. Rang to find out what was happening. No adequate explanation. No apology. Oxfam needs to do better than this. A very poor service.

Oxfam ~ Storrington … zero stars if I could

donate £ to oxfam, have donated items previously but no more after today! Went in 20 min before closing. Met by rude lady in shop & welcomed with, we’re just about close. I explained I was donating & gestured to back of shop. Said hello & asked if they were taking donations. Greeted by 2 further rude & stroppy staff members & informed they were shutting soon, we’re busy, short staffed and I needed to book an appointment to donate. Explained I wasn’t aware and informed, well we have 50 people a day drop off & you shouldn’t just drop off. Followed by, we don’t want to sound ungrateful, which I replied it does sound like that tbh. No thank you, no appreciation, nothing. Decided to donate as a special journey had been made & what was donated was not rubbish, quality items, brand new Xmas decoration items, children’s boots etc. Never again, would have given no stars if possible - it’s the local community that donate to this shop, they need to remember that and focus on customer service!

Beware

Beware. My order for Christmas cards did not go through on the payment page, yet they took the sum of money TWICE. One sum has been refunded, but not the other in spite of numerous emails to them etc. Will not be shopping online from Oxfam again

They are greedy

They are greedy. Their prices are more exspensive than things in normal shops.
I will never use them
Do they care about our people who are trying to buy cheap clothing ? No
I buy from direct independent charities where every penny goes to the cause.
Oxfam deserve no stars. And no customers

Useless for Christmas orders

Christmas cards ordered on December 10th. Three phone calls to enquire, each time I was told that they have been dispatched. Really? They are not here, I’ve missed the second class post and will have to purchase from the nearest supermarket. As a charity they cannot afford this sort of ineptitude, they have a duty to get it right, if people can not trust them, and I no longer can, they lose money, which is inexcusable.

I worked there for a couple of months

I worked there for a couple of months. The system is just terrible. But then again so are lots of the shoppers that used to come in. It's a second hand shop, and still people expect to find mint condition items for nothing. I often reduced products that had a small tiny chip, for 99p, and still nobody would buy them. So usually they ended up in the bin.
Now about the Oxfam system. Work is huge there, both manager and me, assistant, used to carry extremely heavy bags with donations, tones of them, every single day. Some days we couldn't process the amount, so the pile was just huge. It's 60% physical work. Then, you have the donations themselves. People like to donate dirty, dirty things. Stinking clothes, blackened with dirt, clothes filled with mud, food, moths, holes, filthy shoes, vibrators, and so on. The amount of dirt is unbelievable. But guess what, you weren't supposed to say anything and look happy and thank people that brought their junk just because they were donating, God forbid you said anything around customers. That is awful. People should know charity shops are not trash bins.
Then, it's the area manager which never steps out of their office, but has huge demands. Why that isn't done, why are the earnings so low and so on.
True, I believe that the shop managers have a big say in this, because my manager for example, priced the donations with very high prices, saying that if it's a brand then the clients should be happy to get it at half price.. But you know, it's a second hand item, and charging 20pounds for a blouse just because it's a big brand... Not ok at all. Every other day tones and tones of clothes were sent to another shop. Instead of charging less and selling them, she wasted time with putting new clothes and taking off the rack the ones that were just added a few days before. Every item is researched and priced keeping in mind the prices from sellers online. But that is not ok. The managers should keep in mind that they sell items that were received and for which the shop doesn't spend a penny, not a single one! It's a very wrong system.
And very superficial. I tried applying for a manager role, but never heard back. The wages are horrible, minimum ones that is. I get it that it's a charity shop, but they should value their workers and keep in mind that they are basically working with only 2 or three paid employees max. The rest of the people are volunteers. I had days when it was me and another volunteer and that was it. I broke my back running up and down the stairs with donation bags, sorting, pricing, arranging shelves... And for what? For 800 pounds per month. The only good thing was that the people were great.
And for those that say tones of donations are bined... Maybe people should stop emptying their houses two times a year just to buy new things. We received so many clothes with tags on, unopened cosmetics, and so on. The amounts of donations are unbelievable. But what I would do, would be instead of binning so many items, I would organize a box for poor or homeless people. It's a shame binning so much when it could mean a fortune for those that have nothing. Oxfam has a very holistic public image, but in the back things are not as pink as they seem, and money seems to be the only thing they are interested in, oh and lots of useless papers.
No compassion for workers, no compassion for poor people, and no compassion for nature! People in Africa are not the only ones that should benefit. There are poor people in UK and everywhere in the world and keeping your employees poor is not the way to go, especially in London where prices are so big.

Not that great

Oxfam has an okay range of products in their shops, however they are more expensive compared to other charity shops.I did receive a dvd without a cd however when I went back for a refund they gave me the cd for the dvd which was good of them :) Some oxfam shops are not properly organised and can be quite messy.
