Truly excellent service

Rainier coordinated a complicated small move with tight deadlines across a tough border and hit every nail square on the head. Chuck was amazingly helpful in getting us to understand the choices and challenges and then overcame every difficulty along the way to a perfectly-timed white glove delivery. They clearly have the right partners and contacts to make things happen. We do need another cross-border move soon and we will use Rainier again.

I can not say enough about what a great experience it was to work with Chuck Crosslin from Rainier overseas movers. We imported our car into the US during Covid . I contacted Chuck after months of failed attempts to export from the Middle East. Chuck got the job done and in record time!

Broke our stuff and overcharged us.

Broke our stuff and overcharged us.
Our stuff fell off the truck, the last movers showed us pictures, and Chuck laughed it off and said we did not buy the insurance. It was gross negligence on their part. Also was over charged after they said they were not ready to deliver our furniture. Added 500. Wow, highly recommend using anyone but Raineir! You definitely want to go with someone that won't brake your things and overcharge you with the hidden fees.

Hi Robert,
Sorry to hear about the damages. We do offer full coverage insurance for all door to door moves as like anything in life...things happen. Obviously it is not our intent to damage anything.
As you know, you opted to deny insurance and thus we cannot take responsibility in regards to repaying for the damaged items. The added charge as you know was due to the fact that you did not have a delivery address available when you shipment cleared customs. So to avoid demurrage/detention charges we had to unload your shipment in Tucson. The demurrage/detention charges would of far exceeded the $500 fee for temporary storage and warehouse handling. Best wishes.

Overall it was a good experience

Overall it was a good experience. Our items were packed and stored for two months and then shipped overseas. It arrived a day earlier than expected. All the paperwork was handled by the movers, which was nice. All of our fragile glassware and paintings arrived in tact but a few pieces of antique furniture suffered minor damage and one leg on one of the dining room chairs broke off.

Don Arroyo and Rainier Overseas Movers were superb!!

My wife and I are so incredibly grateful to have found Rainier Overseas Movers. Director of International sales Don Arroyo was absolutely SUPERB on so many levels. His attention to detail, calm demeanor, availability and all around knowledge regarding our case was just wonderful. It was always a pleasure to communicate with him.
Don apparently has over 30 years in international moving and boy does it show. We had to process our move from the USA to the UK just one week prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, needless to say a little added stress to our situation. Don was such a calming influence and informative presence as things progressed. Our eventual destination was a rather remote one in Scotland and everything arrived without any issues at all.
"Thanks" again Don Arroyo, you are very very good at what you do . . . a real asset to Rainier Overseas Movers!!
We will not hesitate to utilize Don's services at a future date should the need arise.

I can say enough about the great move I had with Rainier Overseas! We have moved many times over the years and this was by far the smoothest and easiest of all of them. My Sales guy Don Arroyo was available from beginning to end and kept me well informed throughout. The load packing and loading crew did an excellent job and the same at delivery. We had heard horror stories about moves overseas going poorly, people getting over charged and ending up with big bills at the end, I can say that this was certainly not our experience. I will recommend them to any of my friends who might be moving.

Blatant, possibly intentional, (my opinion) horrific damage to our goods!

RAINIER OVERSEAS MOVERS Review

I retired & moved to Portugal in Sept. 2019. We moved many times while in the US ARMY including 2 overseas moves & never experienced anything like this fiasco. I am a Portuguese resident but still a US citizen. I paid RAINIER OVERSEAS MOVERS (a consolidator) almost $14,000 for a door-to-door move. Including packing boxes, loading the shipping container, contracting with land and sea shippers & contracting the Portuguese moving co. to deliver our goods, & unpack boxes. RAINIER also suggested their insurance co. UNIRISC. We had “Allied Movers” in the US for packing boxes & packing the shipping container. I checked the shipping container for holes and there were none visible. ALLIED MOVERS did an excellent job. They are the Only good part of this. We were notified when the ship arrived in Lisbon, Portugal. No problems were mentioned during several phone calls to arrange delivery. The Portuguese movers, GLOBAL INTERNATIONAL RELOCATION, say they were told by RAINIER to hold the shipment for a week. My household goods were delivered to me January 3. Everything was soaking wet,(no exaggeration) In addition, there were 43 boxes & items (out of a total of 400 missing). The Furniture was so very heavily water damaged that before GLOBAL INTERNATIONAL was allowed to put the shipment into a semi-truck for delivery, the truck driver made them line the bed of his truck with several layers of cardboard. When it arrived at our house, the truck looked like it had been packed by a two year old who just threw things in the back. RAINIER’s insurance Co., UNIRISC, would NOT allow me to get an estimate for repairs. The contract actually says that getting an estimate might void the contract. On the claim I had to guess at repair costs. And I had to estimate the cost to replace the items in the missing boxes. I filed an insurance claim for > $7,600. The insurance offered to settle for $1,600 (—$1,000 deductible) I declined & they offered $2,300 (—$1,000 deductible.) The bill for the furniture restoration estimate alone is over $9,300. Of the 43 missing boxes & items, UNIRISC, REFUSED to cover them, for any amount. I made a list of items that I know are missing. I have an estimated replacement value of $2,500. Clothing & linens packed in these boxes that were soaked took a month to get all washed. I had to take some things to XL washers. UNIRISC refused to cover the washing & cleaning at alI.I tried dealing with UNIRISC, they were totally unapologetic for the obvious negligence and unwavering in their offer. I tried dealing with RAINIER who are the ones who raised the offer from $1,600 to $2,300 (-$1,000) No one wants to take responsibility. Everyone blames someone else. But my household goods are ruined!!!! I believe the Portuguese movers, GLOBAL INTERNATIONAL RELOCATION was blatantly negligent. The Portuguese Movers blame the shipping Co. and the US movers. RAINIER, blames the Portuguese movers. My contract is with RAINIER who subcontracted the others.I tried to reach out to Richard Haas, the CEO of RAINIER OVERSEAS MOVERS & I did not get a response to 3 attempts. I do NOT recommend any of these companies. I was personally wronged by blatant possibly intentional, damage & negligence and they still would not apologize or cover the damage. None of this was “normal loss” for an overseas move. We were moved by the US ARMY multiple times including 2 overseas moves and we never experienced anything more than a few broken glasses. This damage is atrocious but the refusal to make amends is unacceptable. In my opinion, I would not risk using any of these companies.

Peggy - Thank you once again for posting your comments to yet another forum. For the public knowledge, below is again our feedback. I urge anyone who actually reads this to view our hundreds on 5 star reviews on Google, MyMovingReview.com, Better Business Bureau, movingscam.com and move forums out there. We are sorry again you are unhappy with the insurance settlement.
Our feedback:
Response to Part I: The customer did ask how often large loss claims happen, and I did tell her that they are very rare. That I have not had one yet (which is exactly accurate as this is my first large loss claim). She also asked about the best way to value her shipment, I told her the same thing I tell everyone. You can go with a lump sum coverage which would then value your shipment at $10/lb., which considering her shipment weight was 12,460 pounds would make her value $124,600.00 or she minimize her insurance expense by doing an itemized valued inventory, giving each item a value. Thus, valuing her most prize possessions at replacement value but giving items that are older or less value a significantly less value. This could reduce your initial cost of coverage greatly. She elected to go with the itemized value and listed all her items with a total value of $7,600.00 with the highest deductible option of $1,000.00 deductible. When asked if this was enough coverage via email, her emailed reply was “yes, none of the other items are worth anything”. Response Part II: Prior to loading the container was inspected and no leaks were found. The customer was present during loading and sent me several emails saying how impressed she was with the loading and handling of her goods at origin. Response Part III: Again, the container was inspected at origin and did not have any indication of damages or leaks. The customer is assuming that the damage was done prior to loading and was known prior to loading, although she was present at loading and did not witness anything wrong either. Response Part IV: Her assumption is incorrect, it was not known that there was water damage until the container was released from customs and being transloaded for delivery. The shipment was delivered on the next available slot following determining there was water damage. Response Part V: this statement is false and a flat-out untruth. No person at Rainier ever asked for this shipment to be held for any reason or asked that the customer not be told of the damage in any fashion. Exactly the opposite, when the customer was having difficulty getting her documents approved and her delivery made, she contacted her Rainier Representative to see if he could assist, he contacted the agent and the delivery was immediately scheduled for delivery. We have all the emails, including the one with her thanking him for his assistance. Response Part VI: ) customer purchased $7,600.00 of coverage with a $1,000 deductible Response Part VII: Unirisc settled the damages based on the items and values the customer claimed on their insurance applications, and Rainier settled all other items at the legal liability of .60/lb/article. Response Part VIII: the customer was not able to provide a list of any of the missing items; however Rainier still choose to settle the “claimed” missing cartons at the legal liability of .60/lb./article Response Part VIIII: Rainier more than fulfilled all obligations, it is extremely unfortunate that this occurred and that on this particular shipment the damage was extreme, and the coverage elected by the customer was insufficient to cover their losses. However, they made the decision on the coverage and Rainier in no way can be held liable for the decision of the customer to greatly undervalue her own shipment and fail to purchase correct coverage. Any further information or documentation backing up our response will be provided upon request. thank you,
Feedback Part II:
We completely agree with Ms. ****** that the damage to her shipment is not “normal” for moving. This was an extraordinary amount of damage; mostly caused by a water leak that occurred within the container during transit. Although the container was inspected before loading, somewhere between the time it was loaded and the final delivery a leak occurred damaging many of the items. Prior to loading, Ms. ****** was offered multiple options for insurance coverage to protect her shipment against all possible damage. Ms. ****** opted for an itemized policy in which she personally provided a list of the values of the goods that were being shipped. In her own words, only the items she was opting to cover had any value and were worth insuring. Some of these items were those that were damaged. Unirisc settled those items out at the insured value given by Ms. ******. Unfortunately, many of the other items that were damaged were not on her insured list, thus leaving them with no coverage through Unirisc. Rainier did, settle each of the remaining items that had no coverage at the basic liability level of .60/lb./article as required. Regardless of what causes damage, be it human error or act of god, customers are only covered for the level of coverage they select and beyond that we have a very strict legal liability to adhere to. It is very unfortunate that this happened, and I do wish that there would have been ample coverage taken out by the customer to make sure her goods were fully covered, but this was not the case in the incident. Although we understand that the customer is unhappy with the results, we do believe the customer was dealt with fairly and ethically.
