We are here to make sure that everyone approaching the end-of-life or living with grief can access the support they need. For more than 70 years, we have been a source of strength and support for anyone living with a life-limiting illness or grief. Sue Ryder supports people through our hospices, palliative care hubs and via our online bereavement support services. We also have almost 400 charity shops across the UK, helping to raise vital funds so no one has to face death or grief alone. Dying and grief are universal experiences, but too many people face them alone. We are a safe and reassuring hand you can reach for. From providing care and support for someone at the end of their life to helping someone manage their grief, we know there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need. Sue Ryder campaigns for everyone who is approaching the end of their life or grieving to have access to the right support, at the right time. And we seek to break down the barriers to talking about dying and grief - so we can all be better prepared and better equipped to be there for each other. We can make a positive difference during even the darkest of times. Whether in the last months, weeks or days of life, or living with grief, we help people live the best life they possibly can. We are there when it matters.

I did all the right things. Took photos of the leather sofas I want to donate including a good photo of the slight wear on one cushion and the fire certificates. I went to the Bedford shop and showed them. They said that they would take them so I booked a pick up. They were supposed to turn up on Saturday which was great as the new sofas were arriving on Monday. They kept sending messages delaying the pick up and finally cancelled it in the evening. They rearranged to collect the sofas on the Wednesday. They came today and refused to take the sofas due to the small amount of wear on one cushion! These sofas are far better than the scruffy, old fashioned tat I have seen in their shop and as I had already confirmed everything with them, I am furious. So I am left in the lurch with four sofas in a 2 bed bungalow. Thanks guys. Terrible way to treat people. If you expect donated items to look pristine then you are deluded. I will never donate items or cash to this charity again.

Absolute waste of time. Booked a week and a half ago and even spoke to their office staff a few days as I am moving back to New York and the items needed to go before I leave. They only had Monday which was one day before my move and I was really worried I would be cutting it short. The lovely woman I initially spoke to tried to move me up the schedule and assured me it shouldn't be a problem. To my utter relief, I was able to move it up to a Friday and then I got a call saying they could pick up but not until Monday. Today, 2 days before pick up I have a man reach out with a laundry list of questions which were more like excuses and caveats and even though they have come in the past, essentially saying they wouldn't stop by if the parking wasn't free. I live in Westminster, it has never been free although there are free spots down the street. When I broke down in tears given exhausting of move and stress this would put me in, he told me he at least didn't call me on Sunday evening right before pick up. I don't know if that doesn't speak or highlight more the level of unkindness of this organisation. I held on to my furniture rather than give it away for free on FB marketplace, because I was trying to donate to a worthwhile cause but so thoroughly disappointed and upset by this whole experience. Safe yourself the trouble and do not waste your time. Speak to British Heart or other organisations who while they may not have the best online interface, will take you seriously and treat you with respect and kindness.

I donate clothes, cd's etc to the Feltham branch and having visited twice in the last 2 weeks I found that the staff are really friendly and welcoming. I was chatting to Christianna about the store and she saw a lady with a trolley outside and immediately went to open the door for her. And even when she was serving I noticed she said hello to all customers whether donating or buying items. I will always donate to this store and recommend to others.

Tried to donate a Welsh, handmade leather sofa in lovely condition. They sent a delivery company (which they’ll be paying charitable money for) out who said they wouldn’t accept it because the leather isn’t the same colour all over (because it’s…leather). This is despite me sending pictures in advance.

Lovely charity shop but awful customer service. Rude and miserable woman behind the til kicked us out 10 minutes before closing time and shouted at us as we walked in saying ‘we shut in 15 mins’. Put my shopping back because she was shouting every few minutes that they were closing soon. What a shame, would have expected someone who works in a charity shop to advocate for raising as much money as possible for charity not to be so concerned she is going to have to work until the end of her shift.

I am so very happy with Coleford Sue Ryder shop, I always donate to this charity shop and they are so very helpful. I’m in a wheelchair and had quite a bit to donate, Shaun told me to ring and he would collect which he did. Thank you so very much. I always look forward to visiting this shop.

I was completely let down by a collection of furniture I was donating. The company had details of every item - photograph, size and condition - for at least two months before collection date, but when they came to collect it the people collecting said they were only collecting one sofa.
I had to scramble around to find alternatives to clear a flat just before Christmas and was lucky enough to contact the British Heart Foundation who did a fantastic job.

Great shop and lovely staff. Really nice to see a shop laid out well and with so much variety. I will definitely make a point of stopping by more when driving past from Cornwall.

Disastrous management. Keen to take as much money as possible without providing services. Even after an emergency was charged additional fees I was never informed about. Head office and Norfolk area manager couldn't care less. Never stepping foot into the store again. This is not a charity shop.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ELECTRICAL FROM SUE RYDER
I would strongly urge anyone who is considering purchasing an electrical item NOT TOO.
We bought a fridge freezer from the Saltash branch, it arrived missing a door compartment. Switched it on and left for 24 hours as per recommendation. It was only after using it for a couple of days that we realised the fridge does not (and would not have been when standing in the store) work.
The engineer who came to assess advised that EnviroCon, who refurbished said piece of crap, would not have switched it on too check.
Now I have been told that not only can they not source a replacement, but if I want to return it I would not only lose the delivery fee, but would incur a further fee for transporting the dammed thing back to Sue Ryder.
UPDATE
You are well aware of my complaint. I still urge people to avoid buying anything electrical from Sue Ryder

Tried to donate a white Annie Sloan chalk painted dresser to the charity and described it as such when communicating with them about the donation. Sent photos and waited around for collection of the item. On arrival, they said they wouldn’t take it because it’s painted. Well yes, that’s exactly what the photos show that I provided to you. Just another example of Sue Ryder failing to appreciate people’s willingness to support them. How about charities concentrate on actually going back to basics and working with communities that are willing to support them and stop all the other absolute chaff they seem to be pushing out. Waste of time and won’t donate anything again.

On taking donations into Blackwood south wales shop, a very rude woman who I imagine is the store manager told me to take my donations from the shop, the two assistants that I firstly spoke to accepted them and this fowl women shouted over to take them away as they were not accepting them, the items in question were M&S and John Lewis items which I only shop in, I have heard this woman in the past talking about people coming into the store with there attire, I entered the store which joggers and trainers as I’ve been walking prior to entering the shop, people with money don’t have to show there wealth, manners and being curtious to the public shows your class, and this woman definitely hasn’t any of the above, barnados the charity shop next door took them with open arms, it explains why this woman is working in a charity shop and not else where

We moved to this area (Wisbech) a few weeks ago, our furniture was in storage so we went to sue Ryder’s to buy temporary furniture. We bought a fridge freezer which was faulty and couldn’t be repaired so after paying for that to be delivered we had to get a van to get it back to them for a refund. We bought a washer which is still leaking and stinks. We bought a sofa and armchair. I contacted them yesterday and asked them did they want the sofa and armchair back as now I have mine back from storage, the van came this morning and he wouldn’t take them saying they were substandard. We only had them a few weeks and I’m a clean person and they were as purchased. I paid over £200 for them. This is a complete joke, so basically they sold me stuff that they wouldn’t take if offered is that what they are saying. Absolutely disgusted and now I would rather burn them, beware off this so called charity shop I will never step foot in there again.

Perhaps not so surprised to see comments about some of the 'rude' experiences at Sue Ryder. Another one at Chesham store. As for 'customer service' line: 4/11/24 a.m. left message, as requested, no reply rest of day, was a call back 5/11 then phoned them, no answer, then phoned me but was in library said I would call next day.
Several times tried engaged, engaged a.m & p.m. 6/11. 7/11 try again phone rings, rings then nothing.
