If Distrokid Did Sync. Brilliant!

Real quick, I want to give a little backstory so you know why I am praising ThatPitch as much as I'm about to.

I have produced in the industry for the last six years. I've worked with Gold Record writers, managed teams of producers for catalogue scale, and already have music in several film sync libraries. I also have 100s of thousands of monthly listeners. I am not naive to how any of this works.

Sync is a mess. Youtube Gurus tell you to cyber stalk film supervisors and chat them up on LinkedIn (Don't do this, you will be blacklisted) or you use services like Taxi, DropTrack, or Disco. The issue here is sync is a shifting and flowing machine.

You'll see a brief for dark moody country, pay to submit to it, get denied, then find out some 2000s bubble gum pop was chosen. Why? Well when they did their lil edits that is what they landed on. Thanks I guess.

Additionally platforms like that are filled with A&Rs making more than you ever will, outsourcing their discovery to middle men who pay them even more. Talk about criminal. So gross to me.

ThatPitch is just Distrokid for Sync. No pitching, no mess. You upload your song, fill out metadata, credit everyone, and off to "stores" it goes aka Libraries. You pay a monthly fee and keep 100% of whatever you make, unlike places that take 30-50% after you paid to submit to them...

The only "issue" I have with it is unlike Distrokid, once my music is on Spotify, I have control. I can market it, playlist it, run ads to it etc. With ThatPitch I am a the mercy of others entirely.

But...since it's unlimited, I have started making catalogue just for ThatPitch, that I don't even upload to DSPs. Someone on here compared it to a lottery ticket, and, sure, kinda feels like luck is what does it. But, you can upload as many "ticket" rips as you wish.

All in ThatPitch has solved public facing sync distribution. Not lazy guru advice that ruins your potential, not pay to play for every shot you take. A boring distribution service that gets files where they need to be.

Sorry, but, if you are hating on this service, you clearly have no idea how sync works and have zero motion to begin with. If you, like me, sit in that weird middle ground where you are not naive, but are still independent, this is the way.

THIS LITERALLY SUMS UP HOW WE'RE APPROACHING SYNC. THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS! haha.

and yes - I 10000% agree with you on the 'control' aspect.

We're working hard to provide direct links for each song in each library once they're live.

Transparently here's the issues we face:

1. Most libraries aren't 'tech first'. They're ads people, or music people, but not 'tech people'. So being able to automate them sending us direct links immediately is hard to make happen with everyone. So we're thinking of rolling this out with some libraries who can easily do that, and then convincing the rest, or even paying for the tech so they can. This way you can 'promote' all of your songs on those libraries, and can send customers there. No different than sending fans to your spotify link.

2. We currently get confirmation once a song is accepted into a library, but unlike Spotify, Apple, Deezer who have very consistent timing when songs go live on their site - every sync library works differently. And songs may 'go live' at a different time. A couple variables that can effect this:

- How quickly they 'process' the song, (they may have their own tagging they want to do on top of what we provide for them)
- Schedule of their team members, or systems to make music go live
- A lot of libraries have 'rotations' meaning some songs don't display at certain times of the year, to help promote songs that are more likely to land for specific deals they're working on (example: they want to promote tropical songs to promote vacation package commercials to their clients where it's cold, during the winter months.)

So lots of variables, and we need to be able to get that link and send to you, and systemize it across 100+ libraries - but we're working towards it and making lots of progress. :)

-----

To be honest, That Pitch is really about systemizing a pretty fractionalized industry overall to make some standard processes so artists are treated fairly (non-exclusive always, no revisions always, get paid 100% of earnings always), have transparency - and libraries have great catalog they can license out to their clients. :)

Just takes time. But we're working hard on it every day!!

Thanks for being part of the journey. Gets better every day.

The sync world honestly felt so…

The sync world honestly felt so confusing and hard to navigate on my own. There’s so much to figure out with pitching, libraries, and placements and I felt like I was spending more time trying to understand the process than actually making music.

Working with Mark has made everything way more straightforward for me. Having a clear system and real opportunities made the whole process of breaking into sync feel a lot more accessible, and it helped me focus more on creating instead of stressing over how to break in. Super grateful to the crew at That Pitch.

Slow burn but definitely worth it!

I’ll be honest, that pitch took some time to pay off. But a few years later, some of the songs I got licensed through it ended up on CNN, and over time, those placements brought me about $3,000. This was about like 5 years after the initial sync, so not instant gratification. Still, the long term royalties and exposure made it worthwhile. If you’re thinking long-term, i would definitely recommend! Just gotta be patient

That Pitch is a massive CON

That Pitch is a massive CON! The site is glitchy and I was not able to upload any songs. I contacted support on day 1 of my free trial to explain this, and its now day 7 - still nothing. I won't be continuing after the trial. What a waste of time and energy. Plus, they keep spamming you with emails. Don't be taken in by their sales pitch. They are RUBBISH!

Hey - okay this one is on us and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

You hit us on one of the wildest days we've ever had - we got literally 20x our normal traffic in a single day and the upload system could not handle it. You tried to use it, it didn't work, and then our support team was buried under the same flood and didn't get back to you within the day (which is typical for us!). That's a terrible first impression and I'm genuinely sorry.

The second we realized what was happening, my team and I were glued to our laptops for an entire week straight getting it fixed. I literally haven't left the studio. I look like a caveman. Haha. It was not cute. BUT - it's fixed. Fully rebuilt to handle that kind of volume and it's been smooth ever since. :)

On the emails - fair point, we do send onboarding emails during the trial. I'll take that feedback seriously because the last thing I want is for someone to feel spammed when they're just trying to figure out if That Pitch is right for them.

If you ever want to come back and give it a real shot - a shot where the song import / upload works smoooothhhh - I'd genuinely love that. Free trial, no pressure, and again - this time the upload button will cooperate. Promise.

Hey - I'm really sorry this was your experience and I genuinely want to understand what happened.

We don't "steal" from anyone's account - what you're likely seeing is a recurring subscription charge, which is standard for any SaaS platform. If you weren't aware it was recurring or wanted to cancel and weren't sure how, that's something we absolutely should have made clearer - and I'm sorry if it caught you off guard.

If there's a charge you feel wasn't right, please reach out at support@thatpitch.com and we'll sort it out. That's a promise.

Hope we can make this right.

Mark Eckert and ThatPitch are scams

This company is fraudulent. They claim to submit your tracks to several libraries, but each library ONLY takes exclusive placements. If a track is exclusive by definition it CANNOT be placed in another library. ThatPitch gives no details of what the licensing terms are or any proof that they're actually placing any of your music. They say you get 100% of the royalties, but supposedly act as an intermediary. They receive your money but don't charge for being the middleman? If you receive anything, you don't even know what you should be receiving for the placement. I and many other people I've heard have received nothing. You get no verification whatsoever that what they're saying is true. IMO Mark Eckert is a scammer. He gave several non-answers in a row to my specific questions. Stay away from ThatPitch.com.

Resposta da That Pitch

Hey - I want to address this one directly because there's a lot here and some of it is just factually wrong.

First - we are 100% non-exclusive. Always have been. Your tracks can be in every library, on every platform, pitched everywhere simultaneously. We worked with some exclusive libraries but this is previous to 2024. Something I worked really hard to change and it was a huge celebration when we got every (former) exclusive library to go non-exclusive. If any library in our network told you otherwise that's something I'd genuinely want to know about immediately, because that contradicts our entire model.

On the royalties thing - yes, 100% of your earnings pass through to you. We don't take a cut. Not a single dollar. The way it works is exactly like DistroKid and Spotify - DistroKid pays out 100%, but that's after Spotify takes their platform percentage from the subscription. Same thing here. Libraries have their own deal structures with their clients - that's between them and the buyer. Whatever comes out the other side as your earnings? That's yours. All of it. We're a pure passthrough. We only work with libraries who are not predatory, and we have a board of 10-20 artists who approve every library deal structure. It must be unanimous among them for a new library to be added to our platform.

On "no proof of placements" - your dashboard shows your placement activity. It's all in there. If something looks off or missing, that's what support@thatpitch.com is for and a real human will respond. Many libraries don't have scrollable sites that look like Spotify for example. Many of them are login only for just their clients. We are working on providing direct links to your songs to each library that has publicly viewable links. But many of them are still easily searchable on your own. We're super excited for this update though to provide it automatically for you.

We're also a member of the Music Fights Fraud Alliance - which exists specifically to hold platforms like ours accountable. We don't take that lightly.

I'm genuinely sorry if you felt like your questions didn't get answered. That's not okay and it's not the experience I want anyone to have. Especially in our industry where artists constantly do get screwed. If you want to come back and ask any of those questions again I'm right here and happy to answer.

Never got paid for placements

I was initially impressed with That Pitch, got 2 placements pretty quickly...the problem? I never got paid for either of them. You're supposed to be paid 90 days after placement..well it's been 6 months and nothing...also no human replies to me asking when my payment is coming, whilst my subscription money came out each month, so i've cancelled my account. And by the way these are buy out payments, not royalty based so nothing to do with my PRO.
I'll also be using the 'exclusive' tracks that were licensed by them for other purposes now. Feels very scammy, and I'll be telling everyone to avoid this company.

Hey - I really appreciate you sharing this and I want to be straight with you about what happened.

Mid-2023 we migrated to a new payment system - a more scalable solution we needed for where the platform was going - and there was roughly a 2 month gap during that transition where payments were delayed. That genuinely sucked and I own that completely. It was not our finest moment.

We worked to make sure everyone got taken care of through that period, but if anything is still sitting unresolved in your account I want to know about it immediately - support@thatpitch.com and I promise a real human responds.

On the exclusivity thing - we're fully non-exclusive now. Have been for a while. So if that was a concern holding you back, that's no longer how we operate. It really came down to every library demanded exclusivity - and only within the past year, I've been able to negotiate the higher tier libraries to do non-exclusive (because I think that's the right thing for us artists. It's not fair for songs to be locked up forever, and something I've been passionate about changing in this corner of industry as a whole.) We now have over 100 non-exclusive libraries, and have ended all exclusive deals. That was a huge celebratory moment for the team. I'm sorta bad about explaining it on socials (sorta lost in the sauce, haha.) but I'm so stoked going forward.

I also hear you on the support response frustration. That period was rough on our end operationally and I know that doesn't make it better for you - but it's something we've put a lot of work into since.

I'm genuinely sorry this was your experience. You got placements quickly which means your music was working and sounded like those deals included upfronts - and the fact that the payment side let you down during that window is on us. If you ever want to give it another shot, reach out directly. I'll make sure you're taken care of.

- Mark (founder, and yes I actually read these)

Thatpitch.com is a pay to play sync …

Thatpitch.com is a pay to play sync licensing racket. After you pay to join, you submit your music and give them all the rights to the music and this is just to get a chance at earning a measly 250$ for your song. About 10 songs are picked a month while there are thousands or tens of thousands of artists submitting. So TP gets all that music for free and just pay for a few of them. Complete ripoff and abuse. You'd be better off pitching at any other sync library

Resposta da That Pitch

Hey - okay so I have to respond to this because a few things here just aren't right and I'd feel bad letting it sit.

First - we don't take your rights. Like, at all. That Pitch is non-exclusive. You keep full ownership of everything and you can pitch the same songs to every other library on the planet at the same time. Nobody's locking anything up.

Second - we have a free tier with unlimited uploads. You get access to one library on us, no credit card, no catch. You can upgrade whenever you want if you want more reach. So the whole "pay to play" framing is a little off - you can literally do this for free.

The "10 songs a month" thing - I genuinely don't know where that came from lol. Placements happen across our library partners on an ongoing basis. We literally had 1700 library placements across our network yesterday. It's not a monthly hunger games where 10 people win and everyone else loses. That wouldn't be fair and I wouldn't offer that if that was the case.

As for the subscription - think of us kind of like UPS for your music. We're just getting your songs into more stores. UPS charges for gas and trucks. We have to cover clearances, legal, development, and new integrations - and clearances especially are not cheap. We're not pocketing fees while artists suffer. We're keeping the lights on so the distribution actually works.

Also - we're a member of the Music Fights Fraud Alliance specifically because I care deeply about artists not getting taken advantage of. It's why I started That Pitch. I had a marriott placement that the middleman took over 75% of the total amount. That sucked. Again, that's kind of the whole reason I built this thing. The irony of being called predatory is not lost on me. xD

If something genuinely went wrong for you, please reach out - support@thatpitch.com. I read those. I want to know.

But for anyone else reading this - just wanted to make sure you had the real story.

- Mark (founder, guy who loses sleep over stuff like this)
