I wanted to support independent journalism and so subscribed for a good year. I’ve since decided to cancel and, apparently, need to contact them via phone to do so.
They provide only a UK number, which doesn’t work.
Some of the most unscrupulous behaviour I’ve seen. The hypocrisy from an organisation is also pretty galling.
Appalling disingenuous customer service
Appalling, disingenuous customer service. I complained about the recent changes to subscriptions and increase in costs several times, including via a customer feedback form. Totally ignored each time. Despite being a newspaper that claims to be fighting the good fight, clearly the bottom line is profits over people.

I would rate -1 if there was an option. I've paid $20/mth for the last 12mths but most recently noticed the news and articles have been biased and misleading. Never again! ***P and no truth.

This rag is no different than th rest of the fake news. Begging for money at evey turn. Not objective. I thought they were at an earlier time period and even made a donation.never again. I dont read anymore.

The complaints procedure is a bit of a power trip.
Wrote a statement about a public figure that I felt was objectively untrue and not just a matter of differing opinion, so I kindly emailed them with evidence to back up my claims, to which I received no reply on three separate occasions spanning over 6 months. They say they aim to solve complaints within 28 days, but said article with said inaccuracies is still up from September 2025. Quite a shame really, considering the organisation specifically says they aim to tackle misinformation. Also a let down to receive no reply, as their policy states that they should have referred me to review panel if the complaint could not be resolved internally but, to get to the review panel, you first need a reply so it’s a bit of a catch-22 if the newspaper explicitly chooses to ignore you.
Excellent news site
Excellent news site. I love reading the Guardian everyday. It's great for world news, sport and politics. I appreciate the nice design and UI of the site too.

I‘ve cancelled my subscription
I’ve been a paying digital subscriber to The Guardian and The Observer for many years, but I’ve cancelled my subscription.
My decision wasn’t made lightly. It stems from two changes that, taken together, left me feeling that loyal subscribers were being asked to pay significantly more while receiving significantly less.
First, The Guardian sold The Observer and then expected subscribers to take out separate subscriptions if they wanted to continue reading both publications. Effectively, readers who had supported the combined offering for years were suddenly being asked to pay twice for what they had previously received under one subscription.
Then came the subscription changes. Halfway through a fully paid annual subscription, access to the Digital Editions app—the product I had specifically subscribed for—was removed unless I upgraded to a Digital Plus subscription at an additional cost of around €80 per year.
I fully appreciate the financial pressures facing newspapers and understand that quality journalism is expensive to produce. In fact, that is precisely why I subscribed. At around €120 per year, I believed I was doing my part to support independent, high-quality journalism.
What I cannot accept is paying for a product and then having that product fundamentally changed or withdrawn during the subscription period unless I agree to pay more. That feels less like supporting journalism and more like being penalised for loyalty.
The replacement Guardian app is not the same experience. It is a news-feed app, not a digital newspaper. The daily newspaper edition was the reason I subscribed in the first place, and that experience has effectively disappeared unless I pay even more.
What disappoints me most is the wider principle. At a time when the cost of living is rising and consumers are being asked to absorb higher prices across almost every aspect of life, there seems to be an increasing expectation that customers will simply accept paying more while receiving less in return.
The Guardian was always my newspaper of choice. I value its journalism and was happy to support it financially. But there comes a point where loyalty has to work both ways.
For me, that point has now been reached. I am genuinely disappointed, and as a result I will no longer be subscribing to—or reading—The Guardian.
Adverts in Hebrew in the Guardian
Over a recent two week period the Guardian posted an advert written enturely in Hebrew, with no English translation. When I tried to protest against this I was censored by the twelve-year olds who run the below-the-line commentary. I now am not allowed to comment on anything.
What is so offensive about an advert written in Hebrew. Well, the comedian (the funnist man in Britain) Alexei Sayle posted a disturbing accounbt of how a Palestine child was threatened with rape by Israeli soldiers if he didn't sign a false confession - that was written in Hebrew, which the boy could not read.
That's the reason I no longer read the Guardian. They should bring back Rusbridger as editor.
The Guardian has lost its credibility…
The Guardian has lost its credibility for me. Too much of its reporting feels biased, selective and misleading rather than balanced journalism. A serious newspaper should inform the public with accuracy and responsibility, not push a one-sided narrative. For this reason, I can only give 1 star.

...but the humor factor was fabulous! "ROBOTS RACE PAST HUMANS". Doesn't that mean the humans are dead? Or are Americans the only ones who spell it 'passed'? Either way, it was a good chuckle.

Guardian has a trust fund supplying it with millions a year
They ask for money saying we aren’t funded by billionaires. Maybe not but they are funded by a trust fund and get 20 - 30 million a year as a budget. They don’t need our money. Pretty rude another big business lying to us!
Extraordinarily bad stay away
I signed up today and paid an annual subscription of $200. I can’t use the App because it is simply unusable. No customer service, no humans to speak to, a three day wait for the “technical expert” to sort out their technical glitch … feels like a scam to be honest … stay way is my recommendation unless you have money to burn.
Loss of journalism
The guardian used to be a go-to unbiased source of information, it has fallen from grace. True loss of journalism.
Completely compromised and diminished
Completely compromised and diminished. A sad loss to journalism at a time when we the people need unbiased and intelligent news cover age. Now worse than the BBC.
