Fraud or deception - you decide

So, this seems to be a company that gets an elderly person to buy something and at the same time have them unwittingly sign up to a monthly £18.50 subscription.
Probably fraud/deception to most people!!

Loyal customer 97yrs duped into 2 rewards clubs

My 97 year old Mother had been a good customer of Easylife and last bought goods off them March 2021. As she became ill in June 2023 I started taking over her finances. I noticed in September 2023 and October 2023 payments going out to Easylife. Basically someone from Easylife phoned her July 2022 and told her what a good customer she was and would get a £10 voucher. My Mother could not hear most of the conversation but kept asking is it free. She was signed up to two rewards clubs over the phone and had over £550 taken out of her account until I stopped it in October 2023. After many weeks of fighting this company I have managed to get the money refunded. It took many weeks to get them to reply even though they had a signed letter of authority they only every replied to say I could not act for my Mother under data protection. I would advise anyone if you are ordering goods from this company make sure you are not inadvertently signed up. Easylife has been fined for breaches regarding data protection by profiling elderly people then using the information. This happened between October 2022 and Spring 2023 the first payments were taken out of my Mothers Account September 2022. My Mother was a good customer of this company especially through lockdown and this is how they rewarded a loyal customer who was in their late nineties and hard of hearing on the telephone.

Rewards scheme-dodgy ethics and dismissive customer service.

I echo the experiences of the vast majority of people on here. I, too, had two, unsolicited calls about the Rewards scheme. Each time I had to put the phone down on the man, who wasn't taking no for an answer, even though I stated very clearly I wanted no part in the scheme, then, or at any other time. The fact that you could be enrolled into something without your consent, then, have to go to the time and trouble to cancel something you didn't want in the first place, seems questionable at the very least. Weeks later I noticed 2 debits from my account which I called Easylife about to query. The Rewards dept. was offhand and rude-but said, eventually, they would refund me, albeit in 5 days (!) but that if I had an issue, I should talk to Easylife about it. When I returned to the Easylife number, though polite, the call handler said she knew nothing about the Reward side! I wrote an email of complaint, but so far have only received a standard reply from customer services. I'm about to escalate the issue and bypass their email. Who, in the company, does take responsibility for unauthorised debiting of accounts? A great shame because I've liked a lot of their products and their sales service.

Don't ever agree to receiving junk mail again

one star is so i can write a statement. I have received two unsolicited phone calls and three letters, some junk mail, A cooking academy pamphlet, a 100s of members only offer leaflet and a tiny premier puzzle book. I have had to contact these companies to stop them debiting my card for subscription or memberships fees for things I did not want to join. I only agreed to them writing to me to get them off the phone. Hopefully I will receive a £10 refund and avoid loosing £76.99 and £24.99. I have done a report to Watch Dog - if you are looking at this please do so as well. People should not receive unsolicited phone calls and be tricked into paying subscription fees.

These people are lousy scammers preying on the elderly. They are actually Easy Life who are renowned for taking money from accounts illegally. They took payments from me fraudulently. They sent a pile of unrequested books to my elderly father who was very concerned as he did not request them and did not know what to do. When I rang they said they worked for Easy Life and Dad could just give the books to charity. They wont remove his details unless he contacts them which he is not able to do. Beware as I suspect the next thing will be money being taken from his account to pay for a membership fee. Take care if this happens to y9u and make sure you contact your bank if you see an illegal payment.

What a collection of crooks

What a collection of crooks! They prey on the elderly and vulnerable. My stepfather purchased a step to help him in and out of the bath, then unbeknown to him, enrolled in the rewards club and subsequently received six books in the post, which were only suitable for toilet paper, and he does not read! £32.99 was taken off his card. This organisation possess no conscience. I would love to meet these people in person.

86 year old relative scammed. Signed her up without knowledge to the rewards club when purchasing from EASY LIFE , then took 4 payments from her bank account via her card used for purchase. This has been cancelled but only one payment refunded and customer services say they can’t access payments made. Going to bank tomorrow to report. Utterly disgraceful , and their customer services just play dumb. AVOID !!!

Total scam! My mother has been signed for this so called club twice simply by buying items via EasyLife catalogues. It is next to impossible to cancel this membership which she did not want in the first place. Thousands of vulnerable, elderly people are being scammed by this company. AVOID.

I started using their motor club for car servicing back in 2021, and I haven't looked back since. I still go to my regular garage, but I end up paying less every time. I was a bit unsure at first, but it really does the trick.

Easylife and The Rewards Club - Avoid

I have just phoned Easylife who have refused for me to speak to anyone from their company. They have told me that The Rewards Club is part of them but they want me to speak to The Rewards Club and not them. They signed my mother up to the club to access an online doctor but she cannot go online. When I asked to speak to a manager at Easylife, they refused and put me through to The Rewards Club. Their email is a dud one and this seems very suspicious to me. There is no-one at Easylife who will discuss this. They have refused.

Scamming elderly people who bought from Easilife.

This scam company are using the bank account details, that elderly and vulnerable people have given out to purchase a single item (from Easylife), to continue taking money from their accounts fraudulently. We discovered this after my mother received 8 random books from a book club that Easylife Holdings have signed her up to against her knowledge, which included an invoice for £32.99. I'll be reporting The Rewards Club and Easylife to the police (Action Fraud) and the Insolvency Service.

Be careful if any of family use this company

My 80 year old mother bought a sofa cover from Easylife. Her bank records were then used to sign her up to a monthly magazine at £18.50. I only discovered when books began to arrive and found she had been added to a book club at £32.50. She has no recollection of any of this. She has mild dementia. This company seems to specialise in exploiting vulnerable elderly people

This is a complete scam I was asked if i wanted to join the Reward club and twice I told them I wasn't interested but they still sent it but luckily my credit card company notified me about an unauthorised transaction on my account so was able to sort it out. I shall never buy anything form Easylife again.

Dreadful Operation

Had a phone call which was unsolicited . I said I have not ordered anything from you and why do you think you can charge £1.99 to my account just because I've used my card to buy something from you at some point . Fortunately John Lewis Partnership Card blocked the £1.99 charge and hopefully that's the end of dealing with this outfit . Shocking behaviour .

REWARDS CLUB CON BY EASYLIFE

Purchased a ladder from EASYLIFE, never arrived. After several e mails (they replied but implied be patient) However my patience had run out and I wrote a strongly worded e mail to which they replied authorising a refund WITHIN 10-14 days!!!.
Now to the company in question who are obviously part of the same organisation. So far I have received 3 invites to join their various clubs but all demanding a fee after a trial period which will be taken from the card which you used to purchase the goods.
DO NOT ORDER FROM EASYLIFE UNLESS YOU WANT HASSLE
IF YOU DO ORDER THROUGH EASYLIFE AND GET YOUR ITEMS YOU WILL GET LETTERS TO JOIN THE REWARDS CLUBS READ CAREFULLY AND E MAIL or RING TO CANCEL

My mum bought one small item from the catalogue posted throught the door. Now each month she has an unauthorised transaction on the same debit card in favour of Easylife. A letter arrrived through the door from rewards club signing her up to a £20 a quarter scheme. She caught it early, after 4 months of fraudulent payments, but I sense this will not be the end of it. Why isn't something done about this ?
