Seems that standards have been lowered

We have rented from Twiddy quite a few times, but I have to agree with some of these reviews that they have definitely slipped in cleaning & maintaining. We stayed in Serenity Sunrise but the pictures were not very accurate. I realize there is no control over erosion or sand dunes, but in the photos there was a clear view of the ocean and the private seating area from the upper deck. It was so grown over & the private seating area was piled up with sand & a broken beach chair! The hot tub had a nice deck around it...that was gone. Pool area showed 15 lounge chairs; there were approximately 7. Current pictures would be appreciated! Our bedroom had sand all over the floor & the bedrooms on the 2nd level were all hardwood and not really clean. My 94 year old mom wanted the room with twin beds. It looked like a room from a cheap motel. The curtains weren't even hanging on all the hooks & the lamp base was broken. When the bed was made, the bedskirt was left dragging the floor which she slipped on the first night. The blinds in most of the bedrooms wouldn't open. The couch was disgusting. It was covered in stains. A cleaning rag was left in our bathroom & the cheap plastic towel rod (the only one in the bathroom) was coming out of the wall. And to end the trip…we all contracted Covid!!Planning on going the Airbnb route next year!

Twiddy

We had a reasonable expectation that spending more than $9,000.00 per week, the home we rented would be reasonably clean and reasonably well maintained. The home was neither reasonably clean, nor reasonably maintained. It was the collective opinion of all that it was in the worst condition of any home we have stayed in on the Outer Banks the past 35 years and the response from Twiddy was the poorest response.
When we arrived at Uncharted Waters, we were shocked at the filth, the stench, and the neglect of the home. The smell of pet urine was over-powering and prevalent throughout the house. There was a dog feces stain on the carpet in the main living area and pet urine was caked on the furniture. There were other stains on both the carpet and upholstery. All appeared as though they had never been cleaned. The kitchen floor was disgustingly filthy and was in need of repair with chunks of grout on the floor.Sand coated the floors and the carpets. The kitchen counter had food stains and the bed linens from the previous tenants were laying on the floor. The bottom of the freezer had a coating of thick brown ice. The tubs and shower curtains in the bathrooms were stained. One shower did not drain, the outside shower was broken, and one toilet would not fill after it was flushed. The sliding doors on the second floor were broken and could not be opened, and nails protruded from the outside deck floor. One sofa on the second floor was broken, and a sofa on the main floor was in deplorable condition. Parts of a broken chair were on the deck and plastic water bottles and other trash were scattered around the outside of the house.The home was advertised as having a charcoal grill. There was no charcoal grill, but instead there was a filthy, partially operable, and pathetic excuse of a gas grill. There was one empty extra propane tank.On our first evening of “vacation” in the home… On our first evening in the home we vacuumed, scrubbed the dog feces stain as best as we could, scrubbed the upholstery where caked-on pet urine was obvious and cleaned the kitchen. We had to use a toilet plunger to make the one shower drain and worked on the toilet so that it would flush. I called Twiddy early on Sunday morning, July 3, 2022 and reported all of these issues. I was told that housekeeping would be at the home that day to clean. The housekeeping team arrived at 6:00 PM. We showed them all that was wrong. This team understood and accepted the awful the condition of the house and promised to return on Monday. I called Twiddy again late on Monday morning and was told that the team would arrive in the afternoon. The team of two did return later on Monday afternoon and worked very hard to clean the home as it should have been cleaned prior to our arrival. However, this team was not responsible for cleaning the carpet or the upholstery. The cleaning team from Twiddy expected that the carpet and upholstery cleaners would have arrived prior to their cleaningAgain on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 I called Twiddy to learn if the carpet and upholstery cleaners would arrive that day. My impression of that conversation was that there was no plan to send the carpet cleaners, but after my pointed conversation, the cleaners were dispatched to the home. The carpet and upholstery cleaner arrived later on Tuesday.
We were grateful to the two people that arrived on Monday to clean the home and the individual from Albemarle Carpet and Upholstery who arrived on Tuesday and cleaned the carpet on the upper floor and all of the upholstered furniture. Due to the nature of the carpet on the second floor, the carpet cleaner recommended that it be cleaned in their facility. I advised Twiddy of the recommendation that the carpet should be cleaned on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but no action was ever taken.As of Tuesday, July 5, no one from Twiddy maintenance had arrived to address the maintenance problems that I reported on Sunday. I again contacted Twiddy requesting service for the maintenance issues on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Finally on Friday, July 8, 2022 after very direct conversation, a maintenance team arrived to address the issues I raised on Sunday. This team was competent and repaired the outside shower, the toilet, the inside shower drain and the critical issues on the outside deck. They could not repair the sliding glass doors or the broken sofa. While we appreciated their work, to get them to the house required requests on July 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8, with a very pointed conversation on Friday July 8. While none of the repairs were critical, there is no excuse for that level of failure to respondThis review was presented to Twiddy on July 15 to give them an opportunity to correct any errors in the review from their perspective. Their initial reply was revolting and condescending.

Save yourself the heartache

Save yourself the heartache and attorney fees and book with someone held accountable.

I was hoping that the resolution to our most recent stay at a Twitty property would not have resulted in making a public review, unfortunately it has. We stayed at "whatever it takes" a Twiddy managed property in July 2022. our property was considered uninhabitable for a total of four days. No hot water for 4 days and no running water for over 24 hours due to a broken hot water heater.

Plea after plea, call after call, email after email. We begged to be placed in a comparable property and were denied. There was no sense of urgency to fix the problem whatsoever. Our weeklong stay cost a total of $12,000. After the Twiddy resolution team took 2 months to review our case it was determined we should receive back $1,400.

The first floor of the property was flooded making two bedrooms and the game room unusable. We had seven family members that had to sleep in the living room. We could not shower and could not attend any of the activities and dinners we had planned For our family vacation. We had to resort to washing off at the community pool showers. Even after the hot water heater had been replaced we still had flooding due to a crack in the ac unit, industrial fans and dehumidifiers throughout to combat the mildew and horrific cat urine smell.

This vacation turned out to be the biggest disappointed.

I would recommended VRBO or Air B&B if considering a vacation to the OBX. Their property's reputation is on the line and I think they would handle and mishaps with the utmost urgency.

"Beach Daze" Corolla, NC in OBX

Last week, we stayed at "Beach Daze" on Corolla Beach in OBX. The property was dirty + had been neglected for some time. The pictures online v real life were incredibly deceiving. I have images of blood on linens; when I talked to Twiddy about it, they responded that they do not wash blankets as there is a time constraint. BLOOD ON LINENS IS ACCEPTABLE. WOW.

When we arrived, all beach toys and chairs were thrown outside the property. A random hose lay in the middle of the back area all week. The pool did not look like the pictures online; clever angles were undoubtedly used. The grills were DISGUSTING.

The sliding door in our room wouldn't open or close without putting all your body weight into it. The windows and glass inside were filthy and covered in dirt, dust, and handprints as if no one had touched them in months, likely longer. The screens were covered in dead bugs. The kitchen drawers were covered in old food and liquid stains. Dishes found in the cabinets still had food on them.

The front yard was the only one on the street that had been completely abandoned. All of the shrubs were overgrown, and what wasn't was brown and dead. The landscaping was covered in beer cans + trash.

The drains had black residue coming out of them in the showers + sinks. There were no hooks in any rooms to hang towels, robes, etc. It felt like the quintessential bachelor pad, certainly not a rental property for a family. The door locks were easily accessible to small children, and the gates to the pool were old and rotting. It was a safety concern the entire week w four small children in our group!

I spent the first two days trying to rectify what could be done w Twiddy and ultimately cleaned the house on my own. It was disgusting.

The location is nice (oceanfront), and we certainly made the best of it, but we will never rent from Twiddy again.

I've used Twiddy for over 20 years

I've used Twiddy for over 20 years - we've had good experiences and bad. What concerns me most about Twiddy is that every time I write an honest review of one of their homes and it's in anyway negative it will NEVER be posted on the Twiddy website - they only post the very best and positive reviews. I know they are a business - but they need to quit hiding the bad reviews if they are not going to update some of the homes. This is just not fair to the people reading them and making their decisions based on them. The past few years the houses we have stayed at have been terribly misrepresented in photos. I am staying with them again this year, just beware that what you see and read on the their website may not be 100% accurate. The service has definitely changed (not for the better) over the years....they USED to the absolute best!! They need to start working for it now....

Do NOT Rent

My family and I rented The Fitzgerald through Twiddy. DO NOT RENT THIS PROPERTY. There were a few positives. The house is in a beautiful and peaceful location. We saw the wild horses multiple times, and the sunsets and sunrises were gorgeous. The house was spacious enough to accommodate our large family. That is where the positives end. The house was in terrible shape. The pictures on the website do not reflect the true condition of the home. Multiple lights throughout the house were out. There were only 2-3 working lights in the kitchen, and we were forced to use a flashlight at times to prepare dinners. A wrench was used as a handle to turn on and off a shower, most of the fans didn’t work properly, the deck around the pool was deplorable and desperately needed to be replaced, the deck chairs were covered in mildew, and there were nails sticking out of the boardwalk. One of my nephews cut his foot on a nail. The list goes on and on.

We reached out to Twiddy more than once, and they acknowledged that the house was in terrible shape and had not been maintained. The only thing that was fixed while we were there was that Twiddy dropped off two plastic chairs to add to the pool deck… that’s it. I also reached out to Twiddy twice after our vacation to discuss our experience and have yet to hear back from them after three weeks. Please do not waste your money on this house or company!

To the owners of the house and Twiddy, you should be ashamed of yourselves for misrepresenting a property. The pictures on the website show a spectacular home but in reality, it’s a sad, broken down, and unsafe house and property. How do you sleep at night knowing people are paying over 25k for the week??? Sad, frustrated, and very disappointed.

Twiddy Rental-THE Worst

Rented a property from them and had numerous issues on an daily basis. All things considered this property should never have been rented out, there were problems with ants, stale standing water and half of the appliances including the central air conditioner did not work

I would score it a zero if I could

I would score it a zero if I could. I will begin with checkin, walked in to a garbage dump absolutely no room to put garbage away all cans were filled, called in ticket and still not picked up. Paid for pool heater and as of day 2 still not working. Fridge broke, tv broke times 2. Old razor blades lying around,dirty rags in shower, 2 toilet seats broken. Reply and response from Twiddy is sorry we know what you are going through and it is being worked on. No ETA on any of it and not sure if it will be resolved, absolutely a dumpster fire and they do not care, I have to call for updates what happen to service and them calling to provide updates. Let’s be honest most people that go through Twiddy will pay a pretty penny for a rental and if this is the service you receive you may want to check a different provider. What will take to fix this?

Worst experience ever!

If I was able to rate this lower I would. We rented this home out for the week of May 23-29 2022. The first few days were okay, besides the fact one of the doors was broken and the hot tub was discolored and looked absolutely disgusting by the time we got there.
The morning of May 25th we were woken up early to be told someone was coming to check our house randomly, because some of their other renters were evicted due to them breaking their contracts. However, we are a group of college graduates, all over 21 and had one of the ones over 25 sign for the house. Due to a work emergancy the 25+ had to leave early that morning and had his wife on his way to meet us since they signed for the house. By the time Twiddy arrived we could tell there was no chance, they came in ready to evict, even without a breach in contract. They told us because we were not a "family" (we are a group of couples in our mid twenties) we could not stay in the house. They specifically said we did not break our contract but that we were being evicted only because we were not a family. We spent a lot of money and are not getting any back, even though we were evicted after being there for less than half our trip. In less than an hour the house was already booked for the rest of the week by another group! I would avoid Twiddy at all cost, book with another company. This was by far the worst "vacation" experience I have ever had.

Sandpiper - Twiddy Rental - NC

We rented Sandpiper at Corolla and while the house was clean and big I would not recommend renting from Twiddy. I had no idea nor was it listed that the pool was not heated so we had no ability at all to use the pool that I paid $100 to fill. The price of this house with having no amenity like a pool at the beach is really bad and truly dampened our trip. If I would have known I would have chosen a different house or a different company. In addition, I saw the houses on either side of me have heated pools and two hot tubs while we only had one. I think it is bad business not to disclose this stuff especially when you are paying more than $700 a night. In addition, none of the sliding doors locked as they were all rusted - I guess anyone could have come and robbed us blind. Truly a Twiddy rental disappointment.

Won’t rent from Twiddy again

Rented a house in Corolla the week of 4/16/22. House was great, Twiddy service was mediocre at best. Not sure if it was the locked bedroom door, two star hotel linens and towels or the ridiculously cheap bars of soap that Twiddy provided that lessened the experience. Feels like, for the price, that Twiddy could mix in some decent linens and a few bars of soap. Will definitely come back to OBX, but will not rent through Twiddy again. . .

Wonderful Stay / Beautiful House

We rented "Sound to Sea" home for a 7 day large holiday family reunion. The house has everything needed for a large group. Awesome Kitchen, lovely decor and very clean.
It would have been a perfect stay except, the elevator started malfunctioning the 1st day. Maintenance came out 3 times to fix the elevator. Response was always quick & friendly. Unfortunately, it was deemed unsafe because it kept getting stuck between floors. The issue was sent to the the manufacturer. We were without elevator for the duration of our stay (4 days). We had a couple of people with mobility problems. Their movement around the house became restricted. Everyone else got their 10,000 steps in :). Overall we had a Wonderful Time.

Palm Paradise rental thru Twiddy

We rented Palm Paradise in 4 Seasons for two weeks. We have been vacationing on the Outer Banks for many years. We owned a home for 11years and sold it last year so we returned to renting. There were a number of issues with the home and a lack of quality/timely response from Twiddy
- the pool was closed-it was included on the Twiddy site but I never noticed it due to the fact that Any previous rental always kept the pool open during the same period and we always kept our pool open until November. Whatever, when we tried to get the pool open all we got was lip service-first it would be opened then Twiddy needed permission from the owners and a fee and finally five days later we were told the pool had been closed with chemicals. My oversight yes but unacceptable management of the situation by Twiddy-incompetent
-the home had a terrific theatre room that unfortunately was never functional-each time Twiddy visited something else stopped working-either the cable or the Roku or totally disabled. Finally, I was told we needed the owners Roku pin- well we are on our way home and I am still waiting for it-try telling the truth
-the home had an infestation of roaches crawling around-these had to present during the weekly cleaning even if it was done quickly-

I would never use Twiddy again for a rental and I had used them years before-their service has detriorated terribly-they have so many homes that they will survive the people who no longer use them so I dont expect anything from this which further speaks to their lack of professionalism

not sure about Twiddy anymore

We rented a beach house in October from Twiddy. The list of issues with the house was long. The most upsetting of those were -

1. there are some huge electrical issues with this place "beach break"- I mean, scary stuff. There is an outside plug that I tried to use and almost got a huge electrical shock....smoke, sparks, black marks on my plug. When we arrived, the whole bottom level electricity was tripped, we should have realized something was wrong then! The hot tub circuit fuse was cracked. Almost every outlet in the house was so loose that a plug wouldn't stay plugged in. Who wants to go on vacation worried that they wont wake up due to an electrical fire!?!?

2. The hot tub didn't work. Two parts were broken. It was rented the week prior and I know people come clean it once or twice a week, so they had to have known before we got there. It took them 3 days to get it fixed and that left us with 2.5 days to use it - this is an absolute requirement for our beach houses and their lack of customer service ruined the vacation. They gave us the runaround for days until we threatened and threw a fit. It should have been fixed before we got there or within a day of reporting it.

3. For some reason they are taking away the access to the pool by early October, so we had to pay hundreds more just to use it. I've been going to OBX in early October for 25 years now and all but maybe a handful of times, its been warm enough for a pool....why all of a sudden do you take it away so early?? The price is still the same, so why am I paying for a pool I cant use?!?!? More money for your pockets?? Right.

The pictures of the home on the Twiddy site are so old its ridiculous and now the home is very worn, overgrown and in need of repairs/fixing up. I am pissed after paying almost $1800 for the week - I would be steaming mad if I paid over $7,000 for this crappy house in the summer!

After 30 years of family rentals 4x per…

After 30 years of family rentals 4x per year across all seasons, our last Twiddy rental last week (Oct 2021) was an utter embarrassment due to 1) the dismally filthy condition housekeeping left the house in, and 2) the unresponsiveness of Twiddy service staff.

In all our years, not once have we had to deal with aggressive roaches in virtually every room of the house in broad daylight. They were in bathrooms, crawling on kitchen counters, laundry room, game room, bedrooms, bathrooms, poolside, and they even boldly crawled across the big flatscreen TV as we watched a movie. Super gross.

Twiddy replied by saying they had already sprayed the house for bugs. That was in fact untrue. Twiddly also “apologized for the inconvenience.” By the looks of the comments since late 2019, guests are spending much of their vacation time documenting needed repairs for Twiddy, and Twiddy must be spending a upwards of 40-man hours a week in valuable staff time exclusively responding to customer complaints— only with apologies, not by actually repairing things, solving problems, or making things right with their customers.

Say goodbye to Twiddy. We are done with you. R.I.P. Twiddy.

TWIDDY SCREWED US

Highest high to lowest low

After having an amazing visit last year we booked again for this year... went from the highest high to the lowest low. House was dirty when we arrived. surfaces were sticky, even the tv remote was gross. Sticky handprints all over the windows. Vents and ceiling fans had dust literally hanging off them. Shower curtains were moldy. Washer was moldy AND stunk horribly. We spent our first hour there cleaning the "clean" house. Then we get the wonderful surprise that NEITHER refrigerator was working properly. Lost over $100 in groceries. Called the emergency number that night and was told someone would call by 9am. At noon when I finally called Twiddy, they said they would send someone out. The fix was to bring us bags of ice for coolers and they scraped up a dorm fridge. We then waited another 3 hours for a cleaning crew to come out and re-clean the house and change out the moldy shower curtains. They were there for 45 minutes, took a good shower curtain down, and left the moldy ones in. Wiped down the table and counters (after we did it the night before), and left. Had to go back into the office to get new shower liners ourselves on our next trip back off the beach to feed our group of 13 because we no longer had the capability to store groceries and eat at the house. We ended up having to buy an extra large cooler from Harris Teeter (not the cheapest place to get those) to store some food, use one broken fridge an ice box by putting bowls of ice in it to keep it somewhat cool. Half way through the week they bring another smaller new fridge and put it on the bottom floor to give us something, which effectively cut out being to use the pool table that we look forward to every year. All in all an exceptionally poor experience. But Twiddy was gracious enough to provide a $250 refund to compensate for our inconvenience. Been traveling to OBX for years, and this past experience has made it abundantly clear that there is no reason to consider booking with Twiddy again, nor consider as a property management company for my vacation home when we purchase. Thank you for making my decision to book elsewhere for next year that much easier.

We recently rented the Mark Twain house…

We recently rented the Mark Twain house in Corrola with Twiddy Realty. The cost of the house is $24,000 for the week. It was an absolutely disgustingly filthy, dog poop on the pool deck, windows, porches and doors covered in dead bugs, spider webs, and dirt. The outside of the house needs a complete overhaul and the boardwalk going out to the beach is downright dangerous with broken boards, boards sticking straight up, and warped boards. The inside of the house is spacious, but filthy. There are water leaks, cracked ceilings, wire hanging out, dishwashers that don't drain, bugs and spiders everywhere( we had to fumagate ourselves). Several toilets where leaking water, several tubs and showers did not drain, and we had to get them to bring us new shower curtains because they where all moldy. Wifi was not working, air conditioner was at 75 and had to have Twiddy come out and turn it down. For a house that you are paying $24,000 a week for, none of these things should be present. The house easily needs $100,000 worth of repairs! Don't waste your money, clearly the owners are not by not keeping the upkeep on this house. The pictures on Twiddy are very misleading. Rent someplace else!
