On August 28th, I purchased a Uniden R8W for $719.99. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice at the time of purchase that the unit was marked “Factory Certified.” I only discovered this after receiving the receipt. I paid full price for a new radar detector and expected to receive a brand-new unit for my 2026 Cadillac Escalade. A refurbished unit is not acceptable for a brand-new vehicle, and I am not willing to install it.

I have repeatedly contacted Uniden customer support requesting a return — Exchange for a new unit with additional payment if necessary. The product has never been used, the box has never been opened, and everything is in its original condition — yet I have not received a single constructive response.

If you’re buying a radar detector from this company marked “Factory Certified,” understand exactly what you’re doing: you’re handing them $719.99 that you will almost certainly never see again, and in exchange you get a used device. This was one of the most disappointing purchases I have ever made. I have already ordered a brand-new unit from another company and will never buy from Uniden again.

Save your money. Don’t trust these scammers with products labeled “Factory Certified.”

If I could give minus stars, I would do

I mailed them five times without reading my email until the fourth now, three days ago.
(I have an email tracer).

I read on Uniden forums after I bought my Uniden 7 that their support and quality are VERY BAD, and I can only say the same.

Stay away from this brand; many more do the same but have better product quality and support.

have read a lot of different support communities and most say that people have problem with this.
I have what other user have tried, tested with 12 different cables, bought a very high-end expensive cable as a last chance, but that didn´t work either.....
So what to do then?
Do you have several series of R7 that you have very bad USB ports of??
I work as Account Executive Architect for SD WAN at Cisco and been in the IT business for more than 40 years now, so have very high technical skills.
I have tested on a MacBook Pro with M2 chipset, also with Parallells on it so via Windows mode too.
Tested with a Asus high end gaming computer (my sons).
Always the same error, can´t find any devices.

I sent in my Uniden radar detector becuase it was not working corretly. They didn't responded. I had to ask for an update and they said they did not have complete billing information. This was after several weeks of waiting. Then when they sent it back they didn't find anything wrong but charged me anyway. The detector still had the same problem and when I asked about it they said I needed to sent it back at my own cost within 90 days and they would check it out. I feel I waisted my time and money and still have a defective product.
