upcloud closed the account unilaterally, i just learned to build web with vps, So i will delete the server and recreate it. They said I have multiple accounts. I never use refer affiliate links to anyone. My remaining balance is about $20. I am disappointed and would never recommend anyone

This service is not provided with professionalism. After a few months of hiring them, they provide a lot of instability in terms of opening ports that are blocked, they do not allow the use of the mail server. They don't give a logical explanation. What is a server where the mail server cannot be used? Little serious, little honest.

From the sounds of your message, it looks like you applied to have port 25 opened for SMTP usage and it was declined. I'm sorry if this wasn't what you expected, however SPAM is a big problem all over the world and it poses a problem for public cloud providers such as ourselves so blocking the port by default is a necessary step to help towards protect in our network. That said, we review every case individually based on the information provided and if we feel it's not suitable to open the port in a specific case, we do suggest alternatives, such as an alternative port or dedicated SMTP options.

Whilst I cannot go into the specifics of your individual case as I don't have all of the information, I can say that we do not give out the reasons for accepting/rejecting users as this would be counter-productive in the sense that malicious users could then build up a bank of reasons that they know will get them accepted/rejected. Hopefully you understand!

Des pratiques commerciales trompeuses !

Ce magnifique hébergeur vous attire avec des crédits de parrainage, quand vous vous inscrivez, il est marqué NUL PART que ce crédit expire après deux mois, bah c'est déjà trop tard on vous l'a déjà sucré. Ensuite, quand vous parrainez vous même des gens, on vous annonce 50$ de récompense, et bah devinez quoi, ils ont disparu après un mois. En bref des pratiques commerciales trompeuses. Ah oui, attention aux prix affichés pour "un mois", c'est en réalité pour 28 jours, cela n'est qu'un détail mais il faut tout de même le préciser.

In regards to the expiry of promotional credits, this is a timeline that is communicated with all partners that we work with so it's possible that they did not advertise the validity period in their particular advertising. If you're able to reach out to us via our chat or email (support [at] upcloud.com) with some more details, we can take a look at checking this with the particular partner.

We would never remove referral credits from a user account unless there was an issue, or if there was a genuine human error whilst handling a case. In every case where a mistake is made, we will correct it once noticed. If this hasn't already been rectified for you, again, please reach out and we'll look into this for you.

Finally, our monthly price is indeed based on 28 days, or 672 hours worth of charges as per the mention on our pricing page at https://upcloud.com/pricing/. This means that if you have a server running for an entire month, you are not charged for the remaining days after the 28th. This is so that there is a uniform charge for each month, even though our charges are done hourly. Rest assured that we're not "short changing" anyone and you are not paying for more than you actually receive.

Upcloud is a complete scam, they close your server without warnings and retain your money after hiding behind their shady policies, disgusting company. Moving to Vultr which sounds like a way better deal according to my friends.

Without knowing the specifics of your individual case, if a server was shut down without warning then this would likely mean that there was an open issue with our Security Operations team that was not handled within the mentioned timeframe. The other reason could be that your account's balance reached $0, though in these cases we send out multiple emails warning of credits being low. I'm not sure if either of these is what happened in your case but if you'd like to reach out to our team at support@upcloud.com we can take a look for you.

In regards to retaining money, we do have a 30-day money-back guarantee so if your account was older than 30 days, you may be referring to this. Again, without specifics, I can't be sure but we'd be happy to look into your specific case if you reach out to us.

Virtual Servers are awesome

Virtual Servers are awesome, fastest ever. Helpdesk is even better, any question, any time, 30 seconds. The price is more than fair, interface is simple and easy, but if you want to get crazy you have an incredible API.
We have use the big 3 and if you ar looking for a simple reliabe solution, UpCloud is the one, period.

Recently signed up after an intense…

Recently signed up after an intense game of Russian roulette with another provider that shall not be named. So far Upcloud seems like a good service, servers are fast but I have doubts on the claim "worlds fastest servers", after all, they're a little bit more pricey then similar providers.

Nice UI, but slightly buggy and a bit limited features, I guess they intend to add more later seeing this appears to be a relatively young company.

Lot's of information collected during signup compared to other providers in the region, I'm not fully confident with all this KYC, not knowing exactly what the information will be used for.

Billing system appears to be pre paid, no big deal, just wanted to mention in case someone was wondering.

Would have given a 4, but reducing it to a 3 due to the API which leaves out much of the stuff you'd expect to use. First I couldn't use API keys with 2FA enabled, and if I tried to use a second user, a API user, that user needed a phone number, which couldn't be the same as for the root user. Seems like a pretty big security flaw and not very cost efficient.

Also a few limitations like, you can't shut down the server while it's running via API. You'll have to stop it first, then wait. This could have easily been done automatically.

Would you be able to elaborate on what you're finding to be buggy within the UI/Hub? In addition, if you have any thoughts on what you feel we're missing, we'd be more than happy to hear it and take it on board.

In regards to the sub-accounts, there should be no reason you can't add a sub-account with the same phone number, I've just tested this here and have been able to do so so if you're having issues or encountering errors, please do reach out to our support via the 24/7 live chat within the Hub and we'll take a look for you!

Finally, thank you for your feedback on shutting down/deletion of servers. At this time both the Hub and API require the server to be in a stopped state before you can delete them. I'll make a note to pass on regarding this though for now, as you've seen, you will need to perform a shutdown first and wait. There is an endpoint for the server details which includes the state so this could be used too to ensure that it is indeed shutdown before issuing the deletion request.

Bad customer service.

Anti-consumer at its best!

My account got suspended and all funds lost after they somehow deemed the content on my VPS illegal. Except it isn't. It's code from github, freely available. No laws cited and they keep referring to random things in their ToS that doesn't even apply because they can't defend their actions. After asking more in depth they simply suspended my entire account, losing all funds. Watch out for this anti-consumer company! They will rob you blind and treat you like crap! Nothing but scammers and thieves!

Suspended my account without warning. I cannot log in to retrieve my files/data, so it's all lost. UpCloud ignore emails and behaviour in an uncivilised manner and do not care about customers. They are untrustworthy!

Great service

Great service. The transparent pricing and billing helps a lot as I'm not running a massive business. The performance difference compared to other cloud providers seems to be significant, at least on the lower end of the spec spectrum!

The scam a part of my funds.

They activate a auto refill i didnt did, so when the server goes under xxx$ they refill xxx$, what they dont tell you is they won't refund and amount after 30 days of the refill but wait.

Also, they don't do a partial refund!!!, so in you recharge 1000$, and you spend 1$, you use the rest 999$ or you lost it! This is a SCAM!!!

Just to confirm and clarify, we do not automatically activate the automated payments to the user's account. This is something that only users can toggle on/off via our UpCloud Hub (in Account -> Billing) and if this feature is not activated and the account balance is approaching $0, we will email the account owner and notify them that the account will soon run out of credits.

We do offer a 30 day refund period (from signup) within which we would always provide a refund if you are not happy with the service. If you are outside of this 30 days period and feel your case wasn't handled sufficiently, our support team would be happy to look into this to see if there is anything that can be done.

We are a web agency in Singapore and I choose to go with UpCloud on a 5USD instance to host our clients sites for more than 2 years without any major hiccup. Previously hosted at Linode, local and Malaysia shared hosting.

I like having personal support that make it easier to reach them for sales or technical issues.

Of course, we have our debit/credit cards verified by UpCloud which is deem to be safe and to avoid fraudulent charge. I'm also a privacy focused user.

The only wish if they could lower 5USD, to probably 3.5USD/m to be competitive (not referral) as the other VPS host.

Liars and scammers

They cancelled my VPS without any warning. They did not explain why. I lost all my data. My websites were offline until I could switch to another provider. They did not issue a refund. I now need to contact my credit card provider and get them to issue a cahrge back to Upcloud. Their support team never replies to emails. This is a disgusting company and the staff are liars and scammers.

I am hosting an encrypted DNS server on their Singapore location

I've been with them for 8 months now. Have used their Singapore, London and Madrid locations. My previous providers were Scaleway, DO, Linode and AWS. I don't know the if it is the world's fastest cloud or not, but in my experience so far, the latencies are certainly low and haven't noticed any downtime. I've used the support a couple of times and they were friendly and helpful each time. I've reduced half a star for their firewall prices - $4.03/m is a bit much, and another half a star for the policy of having to deposit $10 to actually use their 'Free' credit - I can understand the need for verification, but they should be upfront about it. This tactic appears to be sneaky. Other than that, the experience have been positive so far.

When it comes to the $10 deposit and promotional credit, the deposit is required to remove trial restrictions on the account as our trial terms (https://upcloud.com/docs/free-trial/) are for a limited period and for limited services. We apologise if it seems like we're being "sneaky" as this isn't our intention at all. We feel that our trial period is a good way for our services to be tested but only the initial trial credit can be used during this period, promotional credits do require that a deposit be made to remove the restrictions.
