Endless probblems

From the first day i brought the vehicle with the 2 year warranty i got endless issues and little to no help from we buy cars. They stole my warranty money and didn't keep there word. I had to fix my vehicle out of my own pocket. I will never ever buy a vehicle again from them. They are crooks

Be warned...

I purchased a Fiat 500X from WeBuyCars Richmond on 26 February 2025. Just 12 days later, on 10 March, the car broke down with multiple engine failure warnings and had to be towed to the Fiat repair centre. Since then, it’s been a nightmare of silence, avoidance, and shady behaviour.

Despite our immediate reports, countless emails, and phone calls, no one followed up, we never heard from anyone at the Richmond branch again. The person assigned to our case, Carin Dreier, ignored every single email from us and if we were lucky to get through on the phone all she would say is "it's been escalated". WeBuyCars then tried to collect the broken car from the Fiat repair centre without informing us.

When the repair shop refused to release the vehicle, Carin finally called and followed up with an email throwing a tantrum, demanding to collect the car and claiming we owed a "release fee" (which the repair shop confirmed does not exist). That’s how we learned, for the first time, that we were getting a refund.

They refused to provide anything in writing, no confirmation of the refund, no timeline, not even banking details requested. We were just expected to “trust” them and hand the car over.

We eventually had to hire a lawyer. On their advice, we held onto the car until we had a written commitment. Carin refused to speak to our lawyer, saying their “legal department” would make contact. She then proceeded to send a flurry of emails asking when they could collect the car, despite claiming she doesn’t deal with lawyers. To this day, their legal department has still not contacted us directly.

Our lawyer eventually got hold of Mr. Hannes Bouwer, the national head of complaints, who casually told us they needed to collect the car to “put it back in dealer stock and sell it.” This is after they deemed the car not viable to repair and refused to fix it. In other words, they are knowingly reselling a car with a blown cylinder. As of 17 April 2025, the same vehicle is listed for sale on their website with a gold rating and a glowing DEKRA report.

On our lawyer’s advice, we released the car once Hannes committed to refunding us within 2–3 business days. That was the only time WeBuyCars actually did what they said they would and we received our refund. After more than a month of struggling.

My issue isn’t just that the car broke after 12 days, although that was a disaster. The real problem was how WeBuyCars handled it:
No apology
No communication
No accountability
Stonewalling at every turn
No assistance, like towing the faulty vehicle or offering a courtesy vehicle

And that’s not even touching on the highly unethical decision to resell a car they know is faulty.

If you're considering buying from WeBuyCars, be warned:
There is no accountability once you’ve signed.
Once finance is approved, your salesperson acts like you don't exist any longer, they didn't even bother to clean the car before handing it over.
Faulty vehicles are knowingly resold.
Their after-sales service is non-existent unless you get a lawyer involved.
You may end up paying for a car that doesn’t work, with no support and no way to get your money back without a fight.

Bought a car and two months later I found out the they gave me a car with a 10year old battery 2015 May battery and it’s 2025..

They decline my case but when purchasing a car they said if it breaks down in three to six months they come get it or get it fixed. also consumers right a dealer is supposed warrant me battery cover for six months. Like why would they sell a car that has 10year old battery..

Play VERY far from this company!

On March 11th, I purchased a motorcycle from WeBuyCars Polokwane, it was classified as Category A with 6100kms, meaning it's in a good working condition according to their website. I travelled from my home in Midrand to the Polokwane branch to collect the bike. Upon arrival, I was assisted by Shauwan Holyoake. The motorcycle wouldn't start initially, and Shauwan attempted to jump-start it using a battery charger, but it remained unresponsive. Shauwan insisted the bike was fine and simply needed a new battery. Despite my attempts to convince him and other sales representatives to purchase a new battery for a test drive, they refused. As my cellphone battery was low, Shauwan arranged an Uber for me to go buy a new battery. I went, purchased one, and returned to the branch. Upon installing the new battery, the motorcycle started perfectly, and I was pleased. It was almost time to close, so we finalized the deal. The transaction was completed, I made the payment, and I took delivery of the motorcycle. I drove out of WeBuyCars in Polokwane at approximately 17:00. However, by 17:30, I was stranded in the middle of Polokwane town as the bike wouldn't start. Initially, I thought the new battery needed charging and arranged for a bakkie to tow the bike back to my home in Joburg. On Wednesday, March 12th, after charging the battery, I rode the bike to work. Unfortunately, the bike broke down again on Corlett Drive. I called a tow truck again. The bike has been diagnosed by the OEM and the quote to fix it is over R18 000. Apparently the wiring on the bike was fiddled with before and that cause failure of some electrical components. I told WeBuyCars and they rejected my claim and said they won't pay for the repairs, no reason as to why, they just downright said they're not getting involved. I never got to enjoy the bike, not even for a single day because from their showroom it was already an unusable s**** that has now become my burden. Since then, they have been ignoring every single email I sent them. If you know what's best for you, YOU WILL PLAY VERY FAR FROM THIS COMPANY!

I bought a car via online auction.

I bought a car via online auction.
All papers, reports and pictures showed everything was good to go. They called me within 2 hours after I won the bid asking for payment and I organized it within 12 hours thinking that I'll get car when the payment was made. One week later I still didn't get the car and the sales rep told me not to waste my money to come everyday to collect the car unless he calls me, it's really frustrating to buy something you don't get to use immediately.

Terrible service - Please stay away

1. Purchased a vehicle from We Buy Cars which had issues not stated on the " Dekra Report". After 3 weeks of back and forth without the vehicle they decided to cancel the deal, and we could take another vehicle. Which we do so, to avoid further travelling expenses, as we were using private transportation.
2. The cancellation process was again a nightmare. After 3 days of back and forth on the process, we received confirmation that we could collect the vehicle.
3. We drove over 1 hour to fetch the vehicle since they had no drivers to collect the vehicle for us. In less than 20 minutes of driving the vehicle, an engine light reflects on in this vehicle which we reported to our new sales agent immediately. It has been 7 days since reporting the issue. The agent is now refusing to take out calls, reply to our messages and we sitting in the same position has 1 month ago. Please AVIOD purchasing a car from this company. Innocent people are exploited.

TOOK MY MONEY & RAN AWAY

I have not received my deposit back. I was told that I need to put down a deposit and provide finance approval in order to test drive a car. I put down R10000 & I got approval for the vehicle. I decided that I no longer want to take the vehicle because I was not happy with it. I never signed the OTP, because I only received it until I decided I was not interested in the car. The F&I, Tashneeka Jacobs has refused to reply emails & take my calls. Please assist with getting my refund processed.

Deceitful Sales

I bought a car with a gold Dekra sticker, which meant it would pass a roadworthy test without fuss. It failed on an oil leak, which We Buy Cars claimed was a wear and tear "oil sweat" in their report. Under advice from Dekra, I took the car to a carwash for an undercarriage clean and back to Dekra after 2 days. Dekra then reported that it had a significant oil leak and required repairs before it would pass the test. I spent thousands of rands to replace the crank seal at a professional service centre and once again took it back to Dekra, where it finally passed the roadworthy test. When I approached We Buy Cars and produced the repair invoice, they replied that it wasn't a big repair issue and that the car was now fine, so it was all good. That's not the point! They were deceitful about the true condition of the vehicle and failed to take responsibility for their dishonesty. They were helpful and friendly, until the car was bought. My advice is that you take any vehicle you're interested in to a certified or trusted mechanic before purchasing it. Or find another dealership. Be alert!!!

INCOMPETENT and LIARS

We buy cars is a bunch of liars and are completely incompetent.

Lied about a car condition, they were informed about it, went thru the steps they requested, approved a refund and still funds dont get paid.

The vehicle is back on the floor for sale, but they can't process the refund.

Absolutely NEVER in my life will support them again.

WORST company to do business with.

It's an absolute joke these guys.

NEVER AGAIN WITH WE BUY CARS!!! SCAM

Bought a Land Rover Discovery with a very nice platinum sticker on - from JHB south and drove it for less than 3 months. Got stuck on the side of the road because of a turbo bust and other mechanical issues on the engine. I found myself without a car for a whole month - decided to cancel the deal as it was still within 3 months of no assistance from them -they were totally ignoring me. I had to go to one of their branches near me and made a scene! The extended warranty had not even kicked in and the costs were way higher than what I was covered for. These guys are not accessible - do not respond and they have such bad attitude towards their clients. My mechanical issues went over R140k and I had to cancel the deal. Someone very close to me is also sitting with a similar issue - a car that requires mechanical attention of over R100k within less than 3 months after purchasing the vehicle. The attitude and lack of response they have given him - its appalling!! John Wilkinson - needs to work on his stinking attitude! You can't treat your customers like they are some peace of something...

Service paid for but not given

Sold my car to Webuycars in December and paid for my registration number to be removed and put on a certificate. Bought a new car and was surprised when they told me after several days of attempting to register it, that my number was still on my old car!
Still waiting to hear from Webuycars when my number will become available. Much unnecessary stress, especially when you pay extra for this service.

Be Wary of Buying a Car from WBC

I bought a 2012 Jeep Cherokee from WBC Dome branch (first mistake) through an auction without test driving the car (second big mistake), as I put faith in the Gold Dekra report that stated that the gearbox and suspension, amongst others, were in "very good condition" (third mistake). The service I received from the Dome branch was quite good, until I paid for the car that is. After the payment was cleared, I could not get hold of the sales agent to arrange for the delivery of the car from Jhb to Cape Town. Long story short, I took possession of the car 55 days after I paid for it.

If the nightmare ended there, I probably would not have gone through the effort of writing this review, but unfortunately, much more disappointment was to follow. After the ridiculously long wait and all the hassle to arrange for delivery, I finally went to pick up the car from the Richmond branch in Cape Town. It took me all of 2 minutes to realise something is seriously wrong with both the gearbox and suspension. I immediately logged a Compliant with WeBuyCars upon arriving home, and then gave them a call. I was told that I need to take the car to an approved workshop to get a quote for fixing the issues with the gearbox and suspension, and that I will have to pay the workshop for the quote myself.

I clearly had no choice in the matter, so I took the car to a workshop to quote me on fixing the issues. They quoted me on the 1) suspension (R30k) and 2) fixing numerous other problems with the car which I was not aware of (R18k). Unfortunately they could not give me a quote for fixing the gearbox as it requires specialist knowledge, but they confirmed that something is wrong with it and a broad estimate was between R30k - R80k. By that point I have heard enough, R48k (excluding the gearbox) to fix issues with a car that I just bought is not worth it, so I requested WBC to cancel the transaction entirely. In the request I stated clearly that I logged the complaint immediately after picking the car up from WBC (i.e. these issues could not have occurred while in my possession) and that the Dekra report clearly stated that both the gearbox and suspension was in good working order. WBC declined to cancel the transaction as they stated that it's a category B vehicle and referred to the contract I signed which does not give me any protection under the Consumer Protection Act. This begs the question: why then did they ask for a quote to fix the car if they never had the intention of doing it!? The result was that I was left with a car that was unsafe to drive, despite a Gold Dekra report from WBC

It is only after buying the car that I noticed all the negative reviews about the company and it's terrible ethics in online blogs by people that had a similar experience. The workshop that I took my car to also told me some horrendous stories of similar situations with other clients - buying a car with a glowing Dekra report only to realise after driving it for a few weeks that it's condition is way worse than expected. They said it's a constant theme with WBC cars.

Buying a car from WeBuyCars has been one of the most disastrous financial decisions I have ever made. I absolutely have to take some of the blame as I should have driven the car before buying it, and done proper research online about WBC. Had I done either, I would never have been such a terrible mistake. I implore anyone thinking of buying a car from WBC to seriously reconsider it, and to not place ANY faith in the Dekra reports.

Terrible after sales service

We bought a beautiful car on finance 5 months ago. The experience has been terrible. We waited for the natis registration and license for 3 month with no feedback. Eventually I managed to get hold of someone and found out nothing had been done since we bought the car and now the roadworthy had lapsed. It's 5 months later and many phone calls and promises later and I still don't have my license and customer care keeps hanging up on me. Disgusting service they need to do better.
