They are the thinnest steaks I have ever seen. I would rather get less number but thicker steaks than just a thin sheet of paper steak that is impossible to cook medium rare. Will never buy from you guys again. What a waste of money.

Excellent food to prepare and enjoy
The food is properly packed in individual serving sizes and ready to thaw and cook. Makes prepping and cooking so much easier. A wide variety of items are available so that many different types of meals can be prepared. The quality is very good and the price is excellent . The representatives at the popup truck, Zach, both Jarad and Micah were great. They went through all the items available and help put it all together.

Frozen solid in hot ice..
Love the hamburgers and chops.
The chicken is to spicy for our taste buds.
I would prefer it NOT Marinated.
We rinse it off and soak in cold water in the refrigerator to remove the seasoning. Other wise, a great experience.

Unexplainable Missing Items
When I ordered the box, as a promotion for 4th of July, you would also get hamburgers and hotdogs added at no additional cost. When I got my order the hamburgers, which were not part of the box I ordered, were there but the hotdogs were not. So I emailed customer service and asked. She said I did not get that promotion because I used a discount code. When I asked her why I got the hamburgers then, she could not provide an answer except I used the discount code. The food I have gotten is good, a little small but customer service is horrible!

We bought one of their meat boxes at a local event and it was a terrific investment. The assortment was great for our family and the packaging made it easy to keep everything organised in the freezer. These steaks were cooked well and tasted quite good.

We have a family that loves
We have a family that loves to grill on the weekends so we decided to try Backyard Butchers after hearing about them. The ordering process was straightforward and the meat was well packaged for delivery. The steaks and chicken were also enjoyed because they cooked evenly and had great flavour. Having a freezer full of varied cuts has saved us from going to the store more than once. It has been convenient and pleasant for our household otherwise

I was particularly amazed
I was particularly amazed by the convenience. It was easy to order, delivered on schedule and the supplies were kept nicely cold during transit. We have tried the ribeyes, burgers and chicken and have enjoyed each meal. And it’s nice to have good quality meat on hand when we need it.

Does not look and taste like your website, steaks are paper thin so it takes a couple minutes each side to cook for rare. If you don’t eat them right off the grill they get tough. I can get better meat at Walmart or the little local market. Is not worth $600. You ripped me off once and it won’t happen again.

Non-meat ingredients not disclosed upfront--very misleading
Update: I'm upping by one star because the refund process was handled very smoothly. Still a cost to my time, however, as I needed to drive some distance to a popup sale to return the meat. To be fair, though, I was offered a free box of hamburgers (with no injected solution) as compensation. The sales guy indicated that the regular online meat boxes do *not* contain the additives that were the deal killer for my family. My question to BYB in that case is, Why put your worst foot forward?
Original review:
Something that’s very important for people to know: the steaks Backyard Butcher sells have been injected with a solution containing: “Up to 19% solution of water, contains 2% less (sic) of rice starch, salt, natural flavors, natural flavoring, enzyme concentrate (salt, dextrose, maltodextrin, bromelain, spice extractives). Tenderized with Bromelain.”
This information is on the label in small print, but nowhere on the website, and the salesperson (we bought at a popup sale) does not draw your attention to the fine print in the ingredients. We had a closer look a few days later when we were about to try grilling some of the meat, and were appalled.
In our case, the likely presence of MSG (“natural flavors”, “natural flavoring”) in the injected fluid is enough to kill the deal, as we have more than one person allergic to MSG in our family. (Not that we want to consume the other components listed, either—when a company says ‘100% American Beef’ it should mean that it’s 100% beef!)
Backyard Butchers should disclose this practice upfront, rather than requiring someone to actually read the fine print or read through all the 1-star reviews on TrustPilot to find out. No idea of the quality of the steaks, as we will not be eating any, but I can’t believe that injecting this solution would improve the meat. Backyard Butchers states that they do accept returns, so we have contacted them for a refund. If that process goes smoothly, they will win back a few points, and I will update this review to reflect that.
