Waste of Money//Broken Discs

Please do not waste your money on this company. Low availability on games and no overnight shipping available when you get a broken disc. The third game I got (within 2 months) was coated in brown stuff and had a crack right in the middle. When bringing this up to a representative and asking for overnight shipping, I was told it was not available. The problem with this is that when you send a game back that takes about 3-4 days for them to receive it, 1-2 days for them to send you something else, and then an additional 3-4 days for you to receive it. That is already over a week of wait time between games. If you want a specific game you have to wait until it becomes available (you'll be waiting at least a month) with no games out and nothing else in your queue. Even if you put it as first in your queue they will send you other games in your queue instead. I had a game in my queue for two months that was never available so I cancelled my membership. I was not given any indication that they cared I was cancelling. Gamefly is a joke.

The site itself is good

The site itself is good. Attempting to actually get a popular game when it comes out is VERY hard to do though. I typically wait until the game has been out a few months before I even think about getting it for rent from them.

I've only gotten a couple of games that weren't readable. When I lost a game, they quickly sent the next game on my queue without question.

Buying preowned games from them can be a REAL deal. with discounts and digital coupons they offer on occasion, I often times use them as gifts.

Don't try to quit after loosing a game.

My son lost 2 games he was renting and immediately reported it. We have very strict rules that games are not allowed to be taken from the house but he stuck 2 3DS games in his pocket anyway, and took them out while volunteering at a local park. The games were not actually lost but stolen from him by an older child, so he learned his lesson.

Once he finally told me what happened (2 months later), and that he did report it (which he did, I checked the email account associated with it and saw the old notice) I expected to see the bill for those games on my bank statement, but when I finally checked later I found instead they just kept charging me the monthly fee $24.99.

Confused as to why they were still charging membership, as they clearly received notice of the games not going to be returned, I cancelled membership immediately. For one month, no fees were charged but after that they went right back to charging me again.

I sent an inquiry, about how they could charge me for 3 additional months when they knew the games were not being returned and had been reported lost. They told me I didn't reply to their reply (???), so they just kept charging me, which is just insane.
How many times does it need to be reported? Once should have been enough. They also told me I didn't cancel, when in fact I did.
After the insulting response, I called my bank and had them blocked immediately. Now they are sending me emails stating I have 2 games out and they will report it to my credit report.
No kidding! I HAD 2 games out, which were reported "lost" so months ago, and Gamefly happily kept charging membership anyway without sending anything new. So go ahead, Gamefly, since you sneakily took from my bank for months after the report was filed, I paid for those 2 games already, and I have no problem disputing any BS you put on my credit report.


Other than that nonsense, delivery is very slow. I never thought it was worth it but I originally believed it was the best way for my kids to try games. I was wrong. It would have been cheaper to simply buy them used.

Good, but flaws

I have gamefly's game renting service. It is overall good but has a few flaws. The first: shipping take a while. Second, I just ended a month and I had a game out, and instead of just renewing it they charged me. Other people say things about the cd key system, but I haven't bought one so I cant tell you about that. Good, but with flaws.

Waste of time

Bought a CD key for Skyrim on this website - it wouldn't give me the CD key once I had completed the purchase. I had to await "verification". This required calling a US number, which is completely ridiculous. Luckily, I found a link to their chat support service and tried to verify it there. I was informed I had to verify on the phone. I promptly cancelled my order.

Update: I received an email apologising for my experience, explaining that their policy is to call the customer to verify the purchase and that I had cancelled the order before they had a chance to call me. Even if this is the case, it's a poor system. Many people buy CD Keys for the speed of delivery, if you have to wait around for a call it defeats the purpose. They need to sort that out. They offered me a voucher for money off my next order, so I'm moving them from 1 to 2 stars.

Immediate Code, Fantastic Selections and Sale Extravaganza.

They sell (actually) interesting titles at extraordinary rates and there's absolutely no hindrance - registration, checkout and browsing. Receiving and activating the code was straightforward as ever, no prolonged time or awkward verification, and I'd recommend their service as indubitably reliable, committed to providing a straightforward service of digital products.

I'll certainly be returning when there's another sale and I'd likely be willing to pay higher as I respect their business practice.

Avoid Like The Plague. So Bad It's Laughable

Having gone through the checkout process for a game I purchased, I was told I needed to verify my order with a pin. This pin was sent to me after i gave them my mobile number, where I received an automated call from them with my pin included. Having typed the pin into the submission box and confirmed it, I checked my emails only to find an Incident Notice:

"Thanks for your recent order on GameFly! We are hoping to speak with you directly to verify this purchase." This verification process is the one I had just completed. Thus I am yet to receive my product key.

Of course, having purchased from the .co.uk domain and not the .com one (being based in the United Kingdom) I am "also welcome to call us directly" at their lovely US number to sort the issue out, which will no doubt cost me an arm and a leg!

I have emailed them twice and have been met with no response. There is also no way for me to cancel my order, so I'm left chasing them for answers. Unfortunately, I purchased through them because they offered 20% off, therefore making the game cheaper than the next best alternative. However, I have used this alternative website many times and had no such problems.

My opinion: Buy with Gamefly and you're more likely to be able to raise carrier pigeons before you hear back from them. Avoid them like the plague.

EDIT: Two days later, I happened to stumble across another website which had a link to Gamefly live chat. Oddly enough, there isn't even a link to this on the Gamefly website. Anyway, I went through the link and was connected to a member of customer support who sorted my issue out straight away. With some regret I'm adding another * for this.

However, terrible overall experience for a 1st time buyer. Not even a link to the live chat assistance on their own website. Laughable

In my top 5 of best online game shops for PC game deals

One of the major online shops I purchase my PC games from. I have no issues with their download client. I had to contact their support once or twice with an issue with a key but that was resolved in a timely manner. Friendly support.

I must admit that I try to buy games mainly for Steam, Origin and uplay but also have a few a games through their client. (4+ platforms just play games is a bit crazy)

There is always a discount code on top of the discount that can be applied. PC gamers are the winners here :)

Fast, Easy

It was very easy, and i saved alot of money making my own bundle. I got the codes 2 minutes after buying the game...

It was a very nice experience, but i would have liked to get a email confirmation.

can't play games we have paid for!

I bought quite a few games off of Direct2drive when they were around and never had a single problem. now that they are on game fly none of them work. My serial numbers all come back as invalid, they won't activate, and no one ever answers emails. I get just form letters saying they are busy and directing me to useless FAQs. yes people i know you have to copy the serial exactly and not add spaces, i'm not an idiot!!! I had considered getting a gamefly account before, but there is no way i would now! I paid for these games, i want to play them

Bring all the negative reviews of Direct2Drive here!

Ever since GameFly merged with D2D, the latter's reviews have taken a massive plummet in rating quality. D@D was an awesome company and I personally never had problems with anything they had to offer.

Gamefly, now Direct2drive, is presenting massive problems for me right from the start.

1) All the games I purchased from D2D are now unplayable due to Gamefly "ingesting the games into their client". My question to them is, what was so wrong with D2D's file delivery system?

2) Their customer service is atrocious. I have emailed them multiple times only to receive generic, pre-determined responses, most of which point to the FAQ which are less than helpful.

3) Services paid, nothing rendered. I paid for my D2D games years ago and now Gamefly cannot provide the ability or competency to allow me to use my product. All the games I had backups of are now completely useless as they cannot be activated and GameFly will not provide manual activation codes like good old Direct 2 Drive would.

It's to bad i even have to mark a star for the rating because 1/5 is far too much for what this company deserves.

And in case some GameFly rep decides to defend their horrible company, my screen name is ajtracy300.

A BAD copy of steam

Let’s face it steams not that great, so a bad carbon copy isn’t going to be better is it?!? Couple this with the method they have used to acquire customers; Via buying good successful websites closing them down and redirecting the traffic to there own site.

What we have here is a classic corporate jerk who thinks they have the money to do what ever they like and sod the customers... “We can BUY more later”.

Waste of time

I made a purchase at Direct2Drive. (gamefly)
I waited 4 hours and still no game to download :-(
I send e-mail to the support team, but only got autoreply.
I then decided to cancel my order and claim refund.

I cant recommend Gamefly as a digital game supplier..

What if all webshops needed more than 4 hours to comfirm/process a purchase ?

Bad policy, bad service..

Great price and service

I've had Gamefly for over 4 years now so obviously if I thought they were bad I would have cancelled a long time ago. The only knocks I have are sometimes it takes a long time to receive the newest AAA release and occasionally they won't ship a game out the same day they receive my return.

But overall, they provide a great service at a reasonable price. I've played many games that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to since the cost of games is so high these days. I've only had one game arrive that was unplayable. I sent it back and told them the problem and they quickly sent another one out.

Also, if you're looking for used games this is easily the best place to buy them. When you decide to keep a game they charge a very low price, guarantee the game to work, and send all the original documentation that would come with the game if you bought it new at a retail store. Plus, members get free shipping on everything.
