I discovered just how bad the desire to provide customers good customer service really is at Hammacher Schlemmer recently. They say in the customer service World that a problem with a customer is actually an "opportunity." I agree with this thinking, a company has an opportunity to solidify their relationship with their customer when a problem arises. If not handled properly the company sends their customers elsewhere and this "opportunity" is lost. And then they write a review... I am writing to document why I will no longer support or consider Hammacher Schlemmer for anything in the future.
I went online to buy a pair of slippers to replace a pair of slippers I had purchased from Hammacher Schlemmer previously for at a premium price. This recent slipper purchase was my third purchase from them in the past 6 months, I have been a pretty loyal customer over the last 20 years, but this recent experience is the first opportunity I had a need for help from their customer service department and they failed. I just now have read other reviews from customers who have also had bad customer service experiences with Hammacher Schlemmer.
I made an order for a size 12 Walking on Air Slipper for $100, then within 20 minutes after making the order realized that I ordered the wrong size. It was 9:15pm CST so I sent a detailed email to Customer Service to explain my problem and requested that Hammacher Schlemmer Customer Service pull my order and replace the size 12 slippers with the 11-11.5 size. I received a reply email at 12:10pm CST the following day from Matthew Grundy, Technical Support, he informed me that the order was in "picked status" and that he was not able to stop the process to change the item size prior to shipping them off, sorry. I replied respectfully to explain I contacted Hammacher Schlemmer within 20 minutes of making the order. I said, you had my email last night and now you are responding midday to tell me you can't do anything for me? The order is in "picked status," not shipped status... I received a shipping confirmation 3 hours later. Then I waited a week to receive them and then sent them back for the size I needed.
I used their return form that was a USPS Return Label, I dropped the package off at my Post Office (USPS) as instructed on May 3, 2021. I received a notification that the item was "Tendered to Return Agent." That means it was given to Fed Ex, at which time no Fed Ex Tracking number was provided. So now I have no way of tracking the return of my order. No biggie you would guess, but that was 5 days ago and I have not received an email from Hammacher Schlemmer telling me that they have received my return. I guess I will just have to wait and hope. All of this could have been avoided if Hammacher Schlemmer's Technical Support/Customer Service Agent had been trained on how to change out an order that had not yet been shipped, it tells me that helping the customer is not a priority. The lack of timeliness responding to my email asking for help genuine interest in helping me is the problem. So long Hammacher Schlemmer... Read the reviews of your past customers and make changes before it is too late for others.
I sent a gift to a boy in California. The website has no area for sending gifts and no place to enclose a note. I called the company to add my note. They sent the gift to an incorrect name at wrong address. When I called HS I was told to call FedEx. I’m embarrassed for all the errors. How incompetent can one company be!!! The CEO is doing a lousy job. And customer ’dis’ service is worse.
Purchased a record player unit for $358. Had issues with it. Called Hammacher Schlemmer and without hesitation I was told the process required to send the 16 lb. unit back to them. After HOURS OF MY OWN TIME RESEARCHING, I found the solution to fix the unit. I would expect either a partial or full refund for my wasted time in having to figure this out myself.

I recently purchased a window fan from Hammascher Schlemmer. It was described online as a low profile window fan, WITHOUT a brand name. When in fact it is a Bonaire, commonly sold by many other vendors for $25 less. If HS had described it as Bionaire, and I chose to pay a hefty premium or their "lifetime warranty," no problem. But they deliberately left off the make.
Only when the fan came and I opened the box, did I realize the deception. Not only do they charge $15-25 more for the same product, but they tack on hefty $18 for shipping when other stores ship it for free.
But it gets worse. When I applied for my rebate, little did I know that I would be charged monthly for this service and never receive the rebate. I found this out quite accidentally when I went online.
I would never purchase a HS product again and I would recommend that shoppers be wary.
The Electric Heated Dry Eye Mask by Wizard Research that I ordered from Hammacher Schlemmer came quickly with no problems. It has really helped with my dry eyes and is so easy to use. My eye Doctor was very surprised with the improvement.
Ordered a lamp prior to Christmas paid extra for quick delivery. Bottom line lamp was not delivered timely. Spending the extra was a waste of money. Contacted company concerning this was given the run around. I’m so over this company I even hate writing about it. Stay away from this company save your money and go elsewhere. Your time and frustration is not worth it. I have no idea how this company has remained in business.

Cheap Lego knockoff. Total crap. Missing pieces, badly cast parts, electronics don't work and Hammacher Schlemmer doesn't allow you to warn others by leaving a review, so I can only assume they have fake reviews.
Bird Feeder Oasis
The idea of bird feeder, bath, and fountain is exciting and fun.
However this product is poorly engineered
Seed tray shallow and not easy to fill
Water evaporates from fountain quickly
Batteries 4 D run out quickly
I will use this and enjoy, however for will fill water and run fountain only on occasion
I do have goldfinches eating regularly from Audubon Song Mix in feeder
Have yet to see a bird drink or bathe
Pitiful customer service. The phone prompt says "we will be with you shortly" and then five minutes or so later you are told that the wait time will be over one hour! If that is the case, then the customer should be told that initially--not five or so minutes into waiting! I am still trying to get credit on merchandise with a valid tracking number returned to them on January 10, 2021! This company used to be among the very best. It is a mere shadow of itself. I will never recommend them, nor will I ever purchase from them again! BEWARE!
Product ordered early December for Christmas was delivered in January. Plus they automatically enroll the customer in a reward program for $14.95 a month that I was not aware of. This is a scam. Don’t ever buy from this company. I will never buy any product from them ever again.
Shipping was fast. but too bad the table I ordered was awful. Full assembly required, the pre-drilled holes were in the wrong places, or not even there. One of the pre-installed dowels was driven in so far as to make a hump in the table top. Now that it's finally all glued and assembled it's going to be a real pain to return. Maybe it'll find a spot out in the garage...
They really hate refunding your money on returns. Get ready to wait a month or more, if it comes at all. My next step is filing a complaint with my AMEX.
Wish I had read reviews before ordering a gift. Customer Service had received the return (sent to billing not shipping) and reordered to gift shipping address. Confirmed return but reorders running behind but would be expedited. Next phone call told that I had to provide the tracking number ( I had taken a photo) or the item would not be resent despite having been received. Ridiculous practice since they have the item. Apparently they are over 45 days behind processing returns so they make the Customer jump through hoops. My credit card was billed over 30 days ago. Finally, a Supervisor Stacy had the audacity to tell me the error was mine on the order, which was not the case.
They don't appreciate long time customers so I will look for other vendors ( not AMAZON) that do.
This store is no longer like before. Their return or exchange process takes 6 weeks(been told by its people) even more. I had an iRobot sent back for exchange, had to live 6 weeks without it!? Definitely will not buy from this store no more due to its this issue, and quite believe it will be out of business soon since no customer want this happen when they other need to return or exchange.
I am beside myself that I had not read these reviews before I ordered from this company. I ordered a cordless vac back in December 2020. It worked great for about 5 hours and then I realized the battery would not hold the charge. I liked the vac so I asked for an exchange. I boxed it up and returned it. I got an email on the 6th of January that the product had been received and the exchange was processed. A new vac would be shipped shortly. I waited a few weeks: I was being patient due to Covid and the mail system being a mess. After nothing I emailed them and then on January 23 got an email stating that the product was no longer available. I should check back at a later date. Nothing was mentioned about the $138 dollars in limbo that I had paid for the vac. My response was why was I not informed earlier when it was received on the 6th that it was out of stock. I also requested a refund be issued to my credit card. Big shocker no response. So again being gracious I gave it a few days for the refund to appear on my card. Quite frankly I was getting to the point of not wanting to check because I was getting more upset each time. Finally after no refund I called and was told that I needed to request a cancellation for the item. So I did and got an email on February 18 that a cancellation had been requested which would take 24-48 hours to process and then 3-5 business days to receive refund on card. So here it is the 2nd of March and no refund. I called and spoke with Jody who told me that they were issuing me a check that would take 10-14 business days to arrive at my home. Regretfully I unloaded on Jody. I asked when the check was issued and she stated yesterday. Huh????? She explained that because it was initially an exchange that later became a refund their policy is to issue a check. What a joke of a company. It is unfortunate that these reviews are not available on their website. Needless to say I will do better due diligence on a company before ordering from them again. I will also be running to the bank when I receive my check...or is it wishful thinking that a check will even appear in my mailbox? Update to follow.
I have been dealing with Hammacher Schlemmer since January 12, 2021 trying to get a refund for a defective product. The credit card I used for the purchase was compromised and therefore I closed the account. I sent an email asking what I should do because of the closed account. I received a response indicating I would receive a check. I repackaged the item in the original box and used the mailing label this company provided. I also included the email correspondence and the company’s response regarding disbursement of the refund. On February 25, 2021 I received a notice that the amount was sent to the credit card! I have been back and forth since then to try and resolve this issue. I am very frustrated about this especially since I did everything right during the return process. The supervisor agreed with my but indicated that I would need to contact the bank so that they could issue me a check for the refund. I contacted the bank and they have no record of a refund transaction on the closed account. I relayed this information back to this company and I was told to get a letter from the bank stating that they do not have the funds. Since I did everything right, why do I need to do the work of this company? They should be responsible for contacting the bank if they don’t believe me. This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I will shout that from the rooftops!
We ordered a new fireplace grate for $188, received an initial email with the puchase information and charge. After that email, we received no other emails, except to review the product that we never received. In December I tried to call their customer service phone number and was on infinite hold, so could not get through. In early January same issue. In February, amid covid and our power outages in Texas i was able to get through to try and find out where my shipment was. I was told it had shipped in October, and was delivered to my address. We never received our product, nor did we receive an email that the product shipped. Funny enough we received an email to review the product that we never received. I contacted the company in early February and was told they delivered it two days after we ordered it, which seems sketchy to me if it was shipped from NY, where they are located, but i am not 100% sure where the warehouse is located. Also they stated an email was sent, of course which we never received. The customer support person said they would ship out a replacement shipment to another address (for security reasons they stated to me, again totally sketchy), and of course it was never received. I also never received any email about it. After two weeks of waiting i called them again, this time a supervisor told me that they never shipped a replacement, because i waited too long to call them. He also said they sent an email telling me this....which i never received of course. He told me i had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. At this point i have lodged a spam complaint with the BBB, as this company seems to have this very issue from other consumers as well (taking our hard earned money with nothing in return). In my mind this is illegal, but its hard to prove because HS shut me down basically calling me a liar. One would think they would be smart enough to understand that their customers pay the bills. I hope others read this before purchasing online with them. Also, this company is based in NY, and after all of this drama, i am not inclined to give any company based in NY my money now anyway.
Would NEVER order from this company again. I ordered a gift for my husband on their website. Two week AFTER I placed the order, I received an email notifying me that the order would take 3-4 weeks and apologizing that it was not stated on their website and I was not made aware of the timeframe at the time of purchase. I made the stupid decision to move forward with my purchase and wait the additional two weeks. After 3 weeks, I both emailed and called to get a status update. I sent 2 emails that went unanswered, and had to call 4 times -- each phone call I was told something different because their customer service representatives seem to have no idea what's going on. After another 6 weeks with still no shipping number, and no communication from HS on further delays, I demanded to speak to a manager. I was told by that manager that my item would be guaranteed within 7 days and that my shipping costs (I paid for expedited shipping, which is hilarious in hindsight) would be refunded. It has now been a month since that "guaranteed in a week" phone call, and my order still hasn't even been fulfilled and customer service has no information for me. I have received ZERO communication from this company explaining or apologizing for further delays and I'm told that because "it could ship at any moment" and they'd be unable to ensure the item wasn't sent before my cancellation is processed, I am unable to cancel my order. Customer service has no idea what to do, and the managers will say anything to get you off the phone without further complaints. To make matters worse, my credit card company has had to call me various times to question and verify pending charges because every single Monday, HS submits a pending charge for the amount of my item to "ensure I have the money", so they are taking up available funds on my credit card without providing me what I ordered. Laughable, they offered a 20% off coupon on my next order to make up for my frustration....as if I would ever purchase from these people again. Buyer beware.

At the beginning of January I ordered A2 flight jacket for $299.95. When I reviewed the order I realized I ordered the wrong size. Called them immediately and stated it had not shipped and they would switch sizes. 4 days later it arrived in the wrong size. Strike#1! Called them and they said send it back and it will be exchanged. They did state that they would send the new out right away, which they did not. Strike#2 ! A week later the large arrives. The leather seemed much thinner than the other coat. Second time I wore it I stuck my hand in the side pocket and it literally ripped away like someone cut it. The leather that was exposed was about as thick as construction paper. Horrible quality.
Strike#3 ! I then called them and sent it back for a refund. A few days later I called to see where my refund was on my card and was advised that they were mailing a check. I stated that is unacceptable and the email they sent me clearly stated that I would be refunded in the manner in which I paid. They stated that since it was an exchange they issue checks. Total BS. If they had sent the right size to begin with there wouldn't have been an exchange. What difference does that make anyway? Strike#4 ! Obviously they don't know baseball. I filed a complaint with the BBB to hopefully inform people about they're deceptive practices. Obviously they are staffed with inept leptons or just outright criminals !!!

I too wish I could give them zero stars. I ordered a "history of golf" book on DECEMBER 8, the day that they "assured" Christmas delivery by. No ones surprised, it did not arrive. Most egregiously, I had several sales representatives LIE TO MY FACE that it would come in time despite clearly still being "in process". It is January 27, my order is still "in process" and I have spoken to SEVERAL representatives and gotten NO WHERE. They keep promising a supervisor will call me back and to no ones surprise, no one ever does. Hammacher Schlemmer has literally become the bane of my existence. ONE MORE THING, despite being their most unsatisfied customer ever (despite of course all of you) they have been CHARGING ME FOR THEIR REWARDS PROGRAM. This charge was NEVER authorized and its as NOT embedded in any fine print. (I'm graduating from law school, trust me I checked). This is literally the worst company that I have EVER interacted with.
