Mind in Camden
Mind in Camden, dreadful management, bullying in groups freely allowed to go on. The words 'pissup' and 'brewery' come to mind. Joke of a service.
In my opinion Terrible
In my opinion Terrible, Side by Side forum is overseen by often unhelpful moderators who don't listen and are really unhelpful at times and get really upset if challenged as it's not allowed to challenge them, this response does not help community members mental health at all which is detrimental to what they claim their goal or objective is.
M.I.N.D should be investigated
M.I.N.D. had some pretty good advocates a few years ago. In early 2024, my advocate informed me that their "Commissioning Body", one Ealing Council no longer allowed them to advocate on social issues (clearly related to, and affecting my mental health issues).
A few months later I was evicted from my property, all my property, my 17 cameras, 100+ lenses, several computers, all my artistic tools, my professional and private photographs, my clothes and my 55 year collection of designer clothing were stolen and/or destroyed.
My past, my present and my future have been destroyed - in no small part by the corruption of this charity! They breached the Charity Commission's rules that stipulated that charities must be independent of state control, and that their aims must not be governed by external bodies.
M.I.N.D. should be investigated.
At best a service for the worried well
If you have any moderate to severe mental health issues, you won't find any help here. The second you appear even slightly too upset they'll browbeat you elsewhere.

"Write Away": Poetry Bill and the Sweetshop from Hell...
Re: Bill Dury's "Write Away" Creativity course. It's plugged by MIND and the Stuart Low Trust: so you'll gather it's aimed at what we are supposed to call, 'Survivors of the Mental Health System'. Naturally, then, it's a course which "can seriously damage your health" - as they used to warn us of Woodbine fags. Above all, if you're one of the vulnerable people for whom it was set up in the first place.
I'm a sometime-professional author: retired with worsening agoraphobia, C-PTSD, Polyvagal Dysfunction, Writer's Block and impaired eyesight. I turn up for Write Away only because Bill Dury has told me, "You're a genius. And you make people so happy".
Not any more, it seems. As the weeks since go by, what was done to me in May at Despard Road comes to replay in my mind like a reverberating, bad, if not unbelievable dream. Only, it did happen. And what response has there been from Mr Dury, as the weeks have ticked away? Not so much as a whimper.
Bill Dury's manner is affable and welcoming. He's required to do little except to encourage punters to tell their life-stories, and this he does with easy charm. That his own poetry seems no better than homespun is neither here nor there. The subject matter he chooses - hope, loneliness - might seem platitudinous, but it is no doubt appropriate (emollient, rather) for today's huddle of a mysteriously isolated and frightened audience.
You get the picture. As vicars used to say, faced with yet another cup of their parishioners' tea, "It's warm and wet'. Yet there seems to be a significant disparity in the way in which different punters are treated. Some are chivvied or prompted or held in check on the slightest pretext: others (apparently known to Bill from cliques outside) have carte blanche: they can get with anything they like - a cynic might gather?
Because I no longer write, I can't offer anything penned at this afternoon's session. Instead, I bring in two pieces from a book I created long ago and which had found praise in the United States - and promptly, I find myself hauled over the coals for my hideous faux-pas.
The afternoon's public censure begins with a display of sullen resentment from a shrivelled, encysted old gentleman who can't even look me in the eye. Geriatric spite, emanating from wonky knees? A species of desiccated jealousy at the sound of published work, unleashed with the loss of another bumper crop of yellowing teeth? Such is my support worker's verdict but in the end, who cares? All I've tried is to be affable. Almost to a fault. Dear God, I've bust a gut trying to be affable.
Still wearing my Happy Hour mask but now in a state of major threat and anxiety, I begin fiddling with my phone. So there's a verbal rap over the knuckles for me from Billy the Kid (how old is he?) And next, two of old Mr Canker's cronies join in their dead vultures' frenzy. I try to keep up my smile only by now, it's an onslaught. Bill, ashen faced and bewildered, can only waddle from one foot to another and blub like a baby about "spreading love". Yeah, that and the flying pigs.
This was a moment when the chutzpah of Billy's fabled Dad would not have come amiss. "Reasons to be cheerful", hadn't Ian once sung? So, what happened to today's opening kindergarten homily about "respect"? This was a shocking experience, traumatic, unmerited and grotesque: overt bullying or a kind of verbal assault, I suppose; although not, from previous observations of this merry band of cohorts, entirely unexpected. One's told that pretty young women get the red carpet treatment, before perhaps they abscond of their own accord. Now, how should I know?
Just one thing. I'd been teacher-trained in Liverpool 8 during the Toxteth Riots; and today is led by a mentor who has not a clue what he is up to, either as a teacher of groups or as an enabler for grown-ups. That much I can vouch for. Finally, in my flustered state after I've fled this debacle, I get trapped in the Disability lift.
The signage at 48 Despard Road is outstandingly poor and this satellite of MIND is barely known to Google maps. Worth packing your compass and crampons for the journey? Don't even think about it. By the way: a few months later I was asked to read the same poem at a Writers' Forum. I was cheered.
Sadly mind has turned itself into a…
Sadly mind has turned itself into a cash cow, it's like chuggers have entered the building. If you want counselling you pay large sums per hour for a experienced councillor or for a student who has little to no life experience you still pay. People that tend to be genuinely mentally ill tend to not have £35 per hour spare. I think mind is missing the point totally and unless your talking in money they bat you in the direction of another totally overworked charity whom take a year to reply by then your hanging from the noose. Luckily for me i have banded together with a amazing group of likeminded people and we help each other ( For free). I feel after years of trying to get help the only help you get is if you can find it yourself. The only genuinely brilliant and helpful mental health places are the ones related to addiction. They actually helped me get diagnosed with what was wrong with me even when it wasnt addiction. Mind need to employ ex addicts because they understand mental health like no others do.

Mind is a wonderful charity that offers advice and support struggling with mental health problems and who are in crisis situations. I attended the Fulham branch and they helped me in a very difficullt time and they helped me find low cost therapy and other avenues of support . Mind have great charity shops that have friendly volunteers and sell some great clothes and homewear.

Got Referred from the local community mental health team. Knew it would be a disaster. All they want is your info - so they can goto agencys for funding. Honestly - most of them, are just out of school after doing a 2 hour induction program. They are not Qualified! Your better off moaning to your drinking buddy down the pub, if you want to get something of your chest.
Really. They are crap.
MIND IN CROYDON ADVOCACY MANAGER (JM) and COLLEAGUE (MC) BOTH BULLIES
MIND IN CROYDON
Management across the board is deeply incompetent. There is no real leadership, no accountability, and no interest in addressing toxic behaviours. Instead of resolving issues, they perpetuate them by dismissing complaints and ignoring the harmful actions of senior staff. This fosters a demoralising, harmful, and completely unproductive work environment for employees. It is shocking and appalling that an organisation supposedly focused on mental health would tolerate, and even enable, such toxic dynamics within its workplace. The lack of professionalism and leadership is a complete betrayal of the values Mind claims to uphold. If you are considering working at Mind in Croydon, particularly in the Advocacy department, my advice is simple: don’t. This branch fails on every level—from leadership to team cohesion—and will leave you feeling frustrated, stressed, and disheartened. It is a disgrace to the wider mission of Mind and is in desperate need of a complete overhaul.
UNFORTUNATELY BOTH MEN ARE BULLIES.
So angry let down and disappointed at awful assistant
I visited the mind charity shop in cheadle and purchased an unusual campervan mug from the window display complete with box for £5.
I then had another browse around the shoo looking for more items.
I rang my wife to let her know that i bought our camping mad son an unusual gift.
She told me that she had already got him something so we didn't need the mug.
I then went back to the assistant to ask for a refund as she had only just served me moments before.
I was then told i could not receive a refund on bric a brac as they do not refund on bric a brac as it could have been used.
Having not even leaving the shop i asked how does this apply?
I was struck dumb by her awful attitude and could not believe what i was hearing.
Her customer skills were zero and as much as i understood the policy i coild not accept her attitude.
She then offers me an exchange for something else.
I was so annoyed i took my mug to my car.
I cannot believe how much i was taken for a mug.
I decided to rind the mind shop in cheadle and explained my predicament to the manager.
She agreed that this was wrong and that she didnt see any reason not to have a refund.
I asked if i could have a refund from her if i drove to cheadle.
This she wholeheartedly agreed to and was so cooperative and customer friendly.
So thank you for that.
Needless to say i or my wife will not be shopping or donating to your didsbury store again.
The unfriendly unofessional and disourteous
Assistant who didn't assist was called Sylvia.
I am so angry and let down.
Such a shame for such a great charity as having had a stroke a few years ago this charity is close to my heart.
Absolutely rubbish. Just a signposting service.
Operator knew nothing about even directly related anxiety issues to the service they claim to provide. Just signposting to general services, CAB blah, blah, blah. Time completely wasted.
They don't deserve their status and support
Mind is the de fault organisation equally inept and self serving , preserving institutions. Sign post naive people in the grips of, intense mental distress.
Needless to say Mind are equally as trapping and obstructive when it comes to healing people in emotional distress.
I have tried Mind half a dozen times myself over the last few years.
What I found was that most of their call centres are staffed by robotic jobs worth's who want to keep you going around in ever decreasing circles , they don't want to hear the cause and effect of a persons mental troubles . Like several other so called support lines . They are well trained on blocking techniques and once they ask you to open up they then deliberately flatly demand in a flat tone . how can we help "? Or some other utterance they picked up from how to gas light , people in distress or emotional turmoil .
This is another failing service that is designed to fail the service users and enrich the want to be career politicians of tomorrow . This is evident in the tone of the call handlers who only divert from the script to soothe their own ego .
Its a trap.
Don't bother they really don't care, they see your vulnerability as a weakness to manipulate you. The staff are all corrupt. They are actors and recovering ex-service users, with no qualifications whatsoever struggling with there own mental health, they need inspecting. Its a trap.
All in the name of charity!
Getting a cash refund from charity shops run by Mind is like expecting to win the National Lottery – theoretically possible, but astronomically unlikely. Unless, that is, you’re either technically well-informed about what you’re looking for and/or bring with you conclusive written proof that you’ve been overcharged. Or if you’re prepared to kick up a fuss inside the shop! And I’m not talking about run-of-the-mill purchases like clothing, but collectables, including: stamps, autographs, porcelain and coins.
When I tried to get a refund for a twentieth-century coin that had been priced at £8, I was confronted by a hawk-eyed woman who was clearly prepared to argue the toss. “We want to get maximum prices for those in need!” she told me. But apparently without being too fussy about how those prices are reached or whether this is compatible with its charity status!! I had the textbooks with me that showed the price was far too high, even though she claimed they had a researcher who looked up valuations for items before they went on sale. If that means looking at prices on ebay, forget it, because ebay is simply a general selling platform, not a dedicated platform for selling collectables at reasonable prices and manned by experts. On ebay, anyone can try to sell something, including honest sellers as well as some dishonest ones who are hoping to achieve absurdly high prices. But there are specialist websites as well as annual publications that can provide more accurate valuations.
Eventually, she gave up, refunding me £8 for something that is currently worth £1.50. So much for their so-called “researcher”!
Trading standards don’t seem as if they want to get involved in disputes of this type, so basically, when buying from charity shops (and especially Mind), you’re playing with a dice loaded heavily against you! Also, their DVDs are on sale at twice the price at other charity shops, and they don't refund if the DVD is faulty! This is a horrible charity shop, and buying here is not advisable.
Awful organisation who actually don't give a monkeys
I consulted for a business who dealt with Mind several years ago and they were totally unprofessional and uncaring. I wouldn't donate to them if my life depended on it, awful organisation.
Get real
Price wise, this is Longton not London, second hand trousers from NEXT £9.75 what an absolute joke, same with bric a brac, overpriced tat ie small wedgwood jasperware dish £7.75.Avoid at all costs, not worthy of the title charity shop, goods donated, price to sell, helps charity, don't be greedy, donated goods cost nothing, any sale is better than non, don't youth think 🤔
Don't give your money to this shower
I was referred to mind by a key worker and was assured they would offer me help. Guess what ? Nothing. No contact, no text, no call. Nothing. Please don't give money to these crooks they offer nothing whatsoever to anyone in need
Awful charity, does not deserve people's support
Take note of the poor reviews here, 94% one star poor, must say something about this awful, unhelpful charity.
Add into that they have done away with virtually every benefit of being a Mind paying member, apart from being able to vote for trustees. What are members paying for now, nothing. There staff are generally unhelpful, uncaring and non sympathetic and give conflicting information. The online Shop poor and they discriminate. Purchased a t shirt it was way to small, I had to pay for another one, yet others who were unhappy with sizing received free replacement, according to product reviews.
Many things are clearly wrong with this charity and until they wake up and actually start helping those with MH issues rather than lining their own pockets, they have lost my support and paying membership of many years.
