Grégory D'Angelo course scammer

The creator Grégory D'Angelo is a scammer.
I have bought his ReactJS course at alterclass.io.
He just provided 3/7 sections of the courses and I don't think he try to finish it. He closed the learning website without any notice. The money you spend on one of his courses is a waste. Do not buy any course from him.

They're the DB Cooper of dev classes

They said they'd publish a course that people prepaid for, including myself. They didn't. They no longer responded to messages via email or discord. It's as if they took people's money and disappeared. I'd do zero stars if that were an option.

Stay away

As others have already mentioned, this course has had months and months of delays and even though it should have been released before the end of summer 2022, as of today 21st Jan 2023, only the first three modules, which offer no real value as they're just a copy-paste exercise, have been released. Note that all communication has always been done via the author's own discord community.

The initial release was postponed to 20th November after the author went AWOL for around six weeks, then he came back and said he couldn't deliver the course on time. At this point he was asked to release content as it was finished, which would have made it a staged released, but he refused saying he would release the first draft when enough content was finished. Then a stream of delays, lies and condescending messages followed. On 14th November he sent a message saying the release might be a bit late "but no more than a week", then on 19th November he confirmed the delay "by a week or so to 30th November", which was longer than a week as he had promised. He also spent several days before the 30th November deadline actively promoting the course on Twitter saying the early bird discount would be gone soon. Unfortunately, but not unsurprisingly, the course was not released on 30th November either. Instead, he delayed it again to 11th December because he was working on changing part of the implementation to use different technology.

As a twist, on 11th December he sent a message saying that “the first three sections would be released and that the rest would follow when most people had completed them”. This went against what he himself had said months ago when asked to do a staged released, and yet, when confronted he simply “apologised for the confusion”. The problem is there was no confusion as he had always been very clear that he intended to release “the first version of the course”.

From 11th December to 20th December he went AWOL again, paying no attention to questions or feedback about the content he had released. Then on 20th December he sent a message saying he’d go through all the questions and reply. He did not do so and has been AWOL once again ever since as of today, 21st Jan 2023, he has not answered or replied to any questions and no further sections have been released.

During this time he’s been seen online on Discord, as on 24th December a student saw he was online and tagged him, yet he simply ignored them and logged out or made himself invisible. Multiple students have been asking for refunds for weeks now. On 20th December he replied to those asking for refunds and simply said to DM him, the problem is he only accepts DMs from those on his friends list. Several people have also emailed him, and have been ignored. He’s been active on Twitter liking tweets and several people have tagged him on his own tweets asking him to release the course already, but everyone has been ignored. In fact, not even his own Discord moderator can get in touch with him.

All in all, this has been the worst experience I’ve had when doing (or attempting to do) an online course and is definitely not worth the price tag it has.

I took the tech course and it was a complete scam. The instructor was only in it for the money and provided no real value. They did not have any qualifications and the course materials were plagiarized from other sources. I would not recommend this course or instructor to anyone, they are only interested in taking your money and providing nothing in return.

Worst experience with an online course…

Worst experience with an online course I have ever had.

I purchased the "The Full-Stack Developer in 2022 (w/ Next.js, GraphQL, and Prisma)" at the early-bird price.
This sale was supposedly a very limited time deal as the course was reportedly due to release very soon. However, the author of the course was more than happy to allow the sale to stretch on and on and advertise it on Twitter whilst failing to release any material and totally ignoring countless paying customers in the official Discord server.

At the time of writing this, he has been AWOL for a month, meanwhile multiple Discord members report that he is consistently engaging with programming tweets on Twitter.

Many customers have asked for a refund, to which he has ignored 95%, and those who he did respond to he told them to DM him whilst knowing fully well he had set his DMs to friends only. It is regretful that many people including myself have been left with no option but to file a chargeback.

Here is a summary of the last 7 months of drama surrounding this course:

3rd July 2022:
Pre-order begins and the author begins promoting the course on Twitter.

5th July 2022: Many updates about the progress of the course
With 31 pre-orders the $2500 goal is surpassed.

6th July: 40 Backers takes the total to $3350
More promotion of the course on Twitter glamourising how good it will be, the author shares a video of the UI.

11th July 2022: Pre-orders surpass the $4000 mark

All of this week the author sent countless messages in the Discord responding to every single person and sharing many updates and screenshots of the progress.

From then until the beginning of August there are multiple updates every single week and the author is responding to all questions. There are also numerous Tweets promoting the course.

Then from the 1st August to the 11th August the author is silent, no updates at all. When he does return he says he may release a first version in early September.

Radio silence until 16th September. He came equipped with the following paradox: "I've been away from my computer" and "I've been working on the course".
He also promises: "I will deliver it for sure before the end of the year! So I'll keep you updated regularly."

A student asks about potentially getting access to the content as it's ready, the author says - "I'll definitively share the course as soon as I have a first draft ready with at least enough lessons to cover most of the applications we are building."

Three days later he begins a referral program offering 40% commission for people that refer other students to the course.
He also launches a giveaway to promote the course further on Twitter.

He disappears for 8 days. When he returns he says he is aiming to release before the end of the year.

October 8th 2022
The first concrete release date is set for November 20th
He says he chose this date to "make sure I deliver a high-quality course and to give me enough time to include all the materials and features I've promised so far."
He promises to keep everyone up to date with progress. He doesn't. Until

November 14th
"The first launch is still scheduled on November 20th, but I may run a bit late due to admin stuff [...] but rest assured, it won't be more than a week late."

November 19th one day before the release which has garnered around $8000 in pre-orders at this point.

"So, I've decided to delay the launch a little bit and postpone it by a week or so, to November 30th. "
So this IS more than a week, which he promised it wouldn't be in his previous message.

November 30th THE DAY OF THE RELEASE
"Indeed, I decided, a few weeks ago, to use different technologies for building the GraphQL API for the project than those I had initially scheduled."

So he decided a few weeks ago, but didn't provide a single update in the Discord channel which is specifically for updates?

"So, I'm postponing the launch to December 11"

There are no updates again until:

December 11th

"So, later today, I'll publish the following 3 modules:"

He decides to stagger the release despite the fact that the plan was always to release the whole thing. One customer points out that they already asked for him to do this months ago.
A condescending response reads: "Releasing the course this way is also a way for me to validate that you all like the teaching style".

This is merely masking yet another delay.

Amazingly, the first 3 modules are published. However the quality is laughable, it is mostly just copy and pasting snippets.

The message continued:
"for those wondering what about the next lessons, I'll release the Fetching data with end-to-end type safety module at the end of next week. "

This never happened.

That date came and went and there has been radio silence. From the 20th December onwards he has ignored all messages, including countless refund requests and emails to Alterclass

Don't fall into the trap !

On the 28 of July 2022, I purchased the course "The Full-Stack Developer in 2022 (w/ Next.js, GraphQL, and Prisma)" as early bird. Price : about 88 euros.

I was so excited to begin and I was invited to the discord channel. Everything seemed to be good and well organized.

At the beginning, the author (Gregory D'Angelo) was involved. But he didn't finish the course before the deadline he promised to us. So he has extended the deadline by few months after many complains in the discord channel.

The first part was released in December and now we have been waiting for the other parts ! all our complains remain without response, he disappear without trace. Sometimes he liked some tweets but never online on Discord. This is how he considers his students.

Today many students claim a refund but no reply from Greg. So we had to contact our bank to get money back.

If you are not able to finish the course, please don't simply sell it ! or it's a scam !

I'm very disappointed and do not recommand The Modern Dev.

I hope this review will help some student to avoid The Modern Dev in the future.

Regards.
