Shocking treatment, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
I am a recovering stroke survivor trying to learn Guitar as part of my rehab, I am sixty four years of age, Dyslexic following my stroke and I do struggle. 7 day free membership has turned into a week of emails with Sergey Larin, Anna, and others who are all refusing any refund., I have got absolutely nowhere, Ultimate Guitar not only took one full years membership from me £99.95 but they had the arrogance to take two payments of £99.95 through Paypal, Paypal wont play ball, Ultimate Guitar are saying "TOUGH COOKIE PAL", Read the T&Cs. Result, a 64 year old stroke survivor on very limited income has spenT over 35 emails and hours on the phone trying to get through, I am now off to Trading standards and the City of London Police fraud office, DO NOT USE ULTIMATE GUITAR, This is a scam set up, DO NOT USE THESE GUYS.

Absolute scam with their subscription model, not notifying customers of reoccuring subscriptions, replacing a cancellation with a 'pause' without any notice or visible clues and then robbing money off their customers.
Avoid at any cost!

As other reviews here have mentioned, very similiar experience with billing before trial. I wanted to try the 7day trial before an annual sub. However i decided to disable my autorenew and cancel the sub the next day, however i was already billed for full yearly price.
Reached out to customer support for refund, allegedly due to company policy they can only refund the difference between a monthly and yearly sub. Since I was not properly informed in compliance with EU digital consumer law and my 14 day withdrawal period as not been applied correctly, I am requesting a full refund, hopefully this can be resolved without escalation to ECC-net or other EU bodies.
Put in my request with customer support, currently awaiting response.
Edit 1: Transactional email clearly states that billing will occur on 24/1/26 for yearly amount after the clearly mentioned 7 day trial. However I was already billed on 16/1/26 - 8 days in advance. Customer service is still refusing to process a refund, despite clearly violating their billing information.

I was charged for an annual renewal on Jan 15 without any prior email notification. When I exercised my legal EU Right of Withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU), support refused, citing internal terms that contradict EU consumer law. I have opened a dispute with PayPal and the European Consumer Centre.
This type of anti-consumer behavior is simply unacceptable. Steer far, far away from this company!
Update:
I did eventually end up getting a refund through the community manager. I am keeping the score the same, since this is clearly a support policy, and could have been solved within a day instead of taking 2+ weeks.

My wife, who has Parkinson's Disease with Dementia, had subscribed to Ultimate Guitar several years ago. She is now in a Memory Care facility and can no longer play her guitar or piano. I have her Power of Attorney. I recently noticed a $39.99 charge to her credit card for an automatic renewal of my wife's subscription that she cannot use and that was not previously visible to me. UG has refused to refund that charge, citing the conditions made at time of sale. The same issue will likely come up with a dead person. This, in my opinion, is unethical.

I thought it would be amazing to have access to a powerful songbook and so I set out to subscribe to UG. I paid $64.99. That’s a lot but certainly worth it for a powerful, extensive songbook. I noticed there was no trial but I didn’t think I needed one. I was prepared to love this.
But when I tried to sign on, it wouldn’t let me through without answering questions about my skill level and what I wanted to learn. Once answered, I got in, but could only see books for training and not the song database. When I looked closer, I saw I had been charged a second time, this time for $99.99 for the songs and training books package, which I didn’t want. Fortunately this one had a trial period so I went right in and cancelled the trial.
Thinking I had confused the app, I deleted the program and reinstalled it. But it took me back to the training questions and would not let me get past them.
After 3 frustrating hours with no success, I emailed support, explained the situation, and asked for my money back. The best they could offer was to charge me for one month at the rate of $24.99 and refund the difference. Well that’s better than nothing but I got zero use out of this program. As far as I’m concerned, I bought a faulty product and I want my money back. But they wouldn’t budge.
I also found it interesting that they didn’t care, didn’t apologize, and didn’t offer assistance to figure out how to use the program.
So I paid for a month at their monthly rate (not 1/12th of the money I spent) and have gotten no benefit at all.
I will never attempt to open or use Ultimate Guitar again and would never recommend it to anyone.

Meines Erachtens ist das Abo-Modell nur auf Abzocke ausgerichtet, da mir zwei Abos untergejuelt wurden.
Nachdem ich das Pro-Account während der Testphase recht nützlich fand, habe ich die Kündigungsfrist verstreichen lassen. Erst später habe ich gemerkt, dass der Betrag von 99 Euro zwei Mal abgebucht wurde. Auf meinen Hinweis, dass ein Fehler vorliegen müsse, sagte man mir, ich habe zwei verschiedene Abos abgeschlossen (UG Pro und UG Courses+Songbook - was auch immer der Unterschied ist). Vermutlich stand das tatsächlich auch irgendwo im Kleingedruckten, aber auf so etwas bin ich gar nicht gekommen. Ich bin mir sicher, dass das extra so gemacht wird, damit man doppelt abzocken kann - bei so einem stolzen Preis besonders ärgerlich. Da ich den Fehler wegen der Weihnachtsfeiertage erst nach über zwei Wochen bemerkt habe, wollte man das natürlich nicht stornieren... Sehr schade, aber mein Abo werde ich so garantiert nicht verlängern.

Io ho sottoscritto solo UG Pro ad un prezzo scontato e mi hanno addebitato anche la sottoscrizione a UG Courses+Songbook.
In nessuna email di avviso era scritto che avrebbero attivato anche le altre iscrizioni.

Ich hatte nach 2 Minuten eine Rückerstattung meines UG Pro beantragt. Statt den vollen Betrag zurück zu bekommen und auf die volle Nutzung verzichten habe ich 3 Optionen bekommen. Alle samt schlecht. Von meinen 25€ habe ich 15€ zurück bekommen mit dem Argument, dass der Bertrag für EIN MONAT abgezogen wird. 1/12 von 25€ sind 10€???
Sehr untransparent.
Das war das letzte Mal, dass ich da Kunde war. Ich rate definitiv jedem davon ab.

I have subscribed AND paid TWICE for this app. But it will not allow me to use it. Every time I want to select anything when logged it pops up with a request to subscribe, which I have already done, twice. It is totally absurd. They seem to have simply abandon the site riddled with technical challenges. And there is absolutely NO customer service, not a single email address or online form to submit an issue. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!

I wanted to do a free trial, but it was not possible to cancel after I paid. The app is chaotic and as a beginner I could not find my way there. I do not recommend using this app as a beginner

Charged my for a subscription that was cancelled 2 years ago and refuse to refund citing their TOS (which is in violation with local laws)

I had been victim of a fraud: I requested to end my trial days before it was over in order to cancel the automatic subscription. The customer service replied days after the end of the trial and had the nerve to tell me :
"Unfortunately, I can’t manage subscriptions purchased through Apple or Android. To cancel these subscriptions or request a refund, you’ll need to contact the respective support services"
After a long fight to get my money back, I am updating my comment because Aydar has been of great help. Thanks to him I got my refund in no time :) Thank you!

I'm so glad I came here to check this! I have been a subscriber since September and all of a sudden on NYE it would not allow me to access my account! When I continued past the prompts, it charged me again!! Instead of refunding me properly, they offered me 2 years subscription, which I reluctantly accepted - just accessed my apple subscriptions, of course it's still set to renew in 1 year at the full price. BUYER BEWARE!!

A quick google search will reveal endless results of people having miraculous double subscriptions : mine happen on the 21st December, 1 week after my subscription. It is just a shame that this app is not removed from google play.
