Not very helpful compared to competitors

Unlike some other online retailers, who are really friendly and helpful when you call to ask questions, my experience of Direct Hockey is they are not especially friendly and sometimes extremely unhelpful.
As an example, if you know anything about hockey sticks, you know the weight and balance is very important. I'm not talking about the manufacturers quoted figures, which usually state a range of weights, but the weight and balance measured and written on a label for each individual stick.

Most online retailers will gladly tell you the weight/balance of a few sticks, if they have more than one of the same model in stock, so you can choose which one you want. And if they only have one of a particular stick, it is the easiest thing in the world to tell you the details over the phone, or even send a picture of the specs sticker, as they only have to go and look at one stick.

When I first bought a stick from Direct Hockey, a couple of years ago, the person I dealt with then did go to some lengths to send me a picture of the details, which was very helpful. I don't know what has changed, but recently when I asked for the specs of a stick they had only one of in stock, I got either a flat 'No, we can't possibly tell you that', in pretty blunt terms, or in fact at one point I spoke to one member of staff who said she'd go and find the information and email me, only to eventually send me an email saying she couldn't possibly send me the information - which all felt as if she was quite new, trying to be helpful, and had been told by a colleague that she wasn't allowed to send that sort of information.

I get that at times the staff might be busy, but there are ways to say 'No' - and the way they say isn't particularly friendly and comes across as 'we just can't be bothered to do that sort of thing'. Which of course means they definitely won't be most buyers first choice, as the only alternative is to buy the stick, pay for the postage (they don't even offer free postage for a stick that costs £300!) and then when it arrives, if it is the wrong weight/balance for you, then send it back at additional cost, not to mention carbon footprint.

All in, I think your customer service ethic needs working on.

Thank you for your feedback.

I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with your recent experience with Direct Sports. It sounds as though the level of detail you require from the items you are interested in would typically be available instore, where you can physically handle the items you are interested in.

I appreciate you will not be familiar with our setup here at Direct Sports but it is not possible for our Customer Service representatives to simply pop into our warehouse and retrieve products from the shelves. Without going into too much detail, from a health and safety perspective, they would be required to wear safety equipment and receive adequate training on how the locations are set out in our vast warehouse, which is not a productive use of time when such requests are few and far between and the team here are already managing key day-to-day responsibilities to support the business.

We do offer discounted delivery options where possible, but as shipping comes at a cost to us, we’re unable to offer it for free in all instances. The same can be said for returning items as it is just not sustainable to run a business whilst providing free delivery at both ends; unfortunately this is the nature of online shopping.

Great service and delivery...

Product spot on but what really impressed me was the ability to order on a Sunday and have the mask delivered on Monday in plenty of time for my game on Wednesday. Great service, would highly recommend.

Mercian Face Mask

Having borrowed a team players face guard during a tournament I realised how effective it was whilst looking down. I researched the relevant hockey Internet retailers and found this site had the right product, at a brilliant reduced price and fabulous communication and fast delivery. Would highly recommend thank you 😊

Good service and product

These hockey trainer come up slightly smaller than a normal trainer so originally we ordered the wrong size . But the service was great / returns and exchange went very smoothly. Received new trainers very quickly. Ordered half a size bigger than normal .

pro hockey direct / hockey direct

This is the same company as pro hockey direct. Unfortunately I have had a similar experience to others. Non delivery of products and no refund. No number to call. No complaints / customer service numbers. Please avoid.

Sadly ordered an indoor stick and tried to return. This was just returned back saying it had been used (which it hadn’t- it was returned the same day it was received!). Could get through on the phone to try an explain so have given up. Poor service sadly

I ordered a hockey stick on express…

I ordered a hockey stick on express delivery to arrive by 15/01/25 by Royal Mail … no stick … contacted the company who blamed Royal Mail saying that they have decided to down grade to standard delivery and the earliest I will get it is 23/01 … no apology just a ONE pound delivery refund as they said that I am now paying standard delivery rates … unbelievably bad customer service .. just kept saying “your issue is with Royal Mail not us” !!!

Thank you for your feedback, though this is a review of your chosen delivery company. We received your order after our 5pm cut-off on 13th January and so it was picked, packed and dispatched the next morning, at 9:09am. This is very prompt considering we open at 9:00am.

Your order was dispatched via your chosen method of Royal Mail 24 Tracked, with delivery expected to be on 15th January. Unfortunately Royal Mail do not advise us of any issues they encounter with their deliveries and so we were not aware of any delay with your order to be able to inform you of this.

We did investigate this for you with Royal Mail as soon as you had made us aware that your order had not arrived within the expected timeframe.

I can your order was delivered to you on 17th January and we have issued a refund of your upgraded delivery charge, since we do not expect you to pay for a service you have not received.

Thank you for your feedback.

I can see you placed your order with us on 23rd December at 14:10. This was picked, packed and dispatched for you by 14:17 that very same day. Since the next day was 24th December, Christmas Eve, this was not expected to be delivered as DPD were not operating with usual business hours. The earliest this would have reached you would have been 27th December. Having tracked this with DPD I can however see that your parcel was routed to the incorrect delivery depot which is what caused the delay.

I have issued a refund of your delivery charge today since you paid for a service you did not receive however we would always expect our customers to contact us directly whenever there is an issue so that we can assist, rather than rely on a third party review site. We would have followed this up with DPD and refunded the delivery fee at the time for you.
