I've been an ebayer for 19 years and…
I've been an ebayer for 19 years and there are things I like, and things I don't. The good is that you can make sales on this site. I list on 5 different platforms and 99.9% of the sales are from ebay. The others are nearly non-existent so it is worth your time. You do get free listings and they often have promotions for extra listings and reduced final fees which is nice. The bad is that some of the things they have done to "improve" the site are just terrible. You can no longer list in U.S. currency, the 30 day listing is now a Good Til Cancelled which is awful, just a way to get you to pay more fees. Anytime you call the help system, it is painful. I have called sometimes 4 or 5 times about the same issue and you'll get a different answer each time. It's ridiculous. Once and a while you get someone who actually seems to understand what they are doing. The ugly is the return policy, it's just scammer heaven. Believe me, if you sell on here you will go through the ordeal in your time. I've gone through it several times and it is absolutely ridiculous. As a buyer you are like a GOD, and as a seller you are a sheep in the wolf's den. A buyer can choose to open a case and it's always the same....."defective or not as described". Not only do you as a seller have to pay to get the item back, you then have to refund all the original fees and shipping costs so you lose BIG TIME!!. Even worse, is that the buyer can buy an expensive item (ex: a laptop), claim a defective return, and send you a brick in return. ALWAYS video everything when you get a return. Video yourself getting the package from the post office or the front step, opening the package, going through it all in one cut, don't do any video stop. It's the only chance you have. I've used it twice and it has worked.
Alot of people no longer leave feedback which is the basis of how you get to improve. The rating system is horribly flawed. Let's look at it. 1) Accurate Description. I actually do like this one. But be honest, describe all defects and take lots of photos to put in your ad. You'd be surprised how someone might return something because you didn't describe a tiny scratch where they saw one. And also lots of photos to make sure you get the same item back. I've now started using invisible ink to mark my items (the expensive ones) and keep a dated photo of it in case I need it. If the buyer opens a return, I tell them to make sure I get the same item back as the hidden ID mark on it has been sent to ebay to check. That often stops a claim in its tracks.
2) Shipping speed. There are parts of this that are just stupid. You as a seller set the amount of time you need to ship an item be it same day or up to 5 days I think (can't remember). The second you send that item with tracking and it has been within the time frame you should automatically be given a 5 rating. Some people are so unreasonable, they take 5 days to pay and then expect you to ship it out within the hour and if it doesn't get there in a day or two you get low ratings. It's just stupid. Once mailed on time, your responsibility should be over. I won't get into the mail claims that you need to make once and a while. Those are really difficult.
3) Communication. This rating is useless. You upset off some people by not asking enough and you upset others by asking too much. It's a judgement thing that can't be measured. General rule I've used and seems to be ok....I email to let them know I received payment. I email when the item has been sent and include tracking. I email 3 weeks after mailing to ask if the item has been received and everything is ok and that's it. If the buyer leaves feedback, great, if they don't, great. I'd say on average 4-5 out of 10 people leave feedback so you will lose a lot of them.
And that brings us to 4) THE WORST OF THE WORST. The Reasonable shipping cost. What a joke. Ebay got around the seller selling the item for 1 cent and asking 19.99 for shipping (which I don't do by the way) because they don't make money. So what do they do, they now charge you as a buyer 10% fees on the shipping. So you have to overcharge for shipping if you don't want to lose and if you offer free shipping (great if you live in the U.S.) Not so good where I sell from, can't complete with U.S. shipping, so you have to put your prices so high that nobody looks at it. You're forces to sell lower to get the sales. And the Canadain shipping sorry to say is outrageously expensive. I can send a small package to Florida, over 2000 miles away in a different country for under $10. That same package 50 miles away in the same country, same province will cost over $20. Canada post took out the small package service and that was a dagger in the heart of the seller. It's so hard to compete because of the shipping costs.
Anyway, that is my rant, could go on an on.
They are very tricky and hidden fees…
They are very tricky and hidden fees working with goshippo(a phantom company), I've sold an item with 47$ and they've charged me 42$ for a regular label, delivering in same country, waste of time and money.
I agree about if I could give a lower…
I agree about if I could give a lower than one star I would. I made a buy it now purchase on ebay. If you are a Canadian paypal converts you to USD - ok with that. What I am not ok with is when you make a return they convert that USD to Canadian instead of just leaving the US in your paypal account. eg. My buy it now was 19.99. They charged me $27 in exchange. I did not get the item so I put it to resolution to get a refund and they gave me $18 back. Do the math.
If I could give the a -0 I would
If I could give the a -0 I would, you can hear the other agents laughing over your problems as if they were betting on what issues you were calling about the international seller place ads on Ebay in which they have no access to and provide fake tracking numbers via China Post. Been with Eby since 2005 and I never had this problem until now, on occasions I would never get my item and then wait for almost a month to get my refund but in the meanwhile you are paying extremely high interest to pay-pal. Now its to Amazon
Awful site but anything, waste of time…
Awful site but anything, waste of time and money, all of these Chinese sellers are fake ,they give you fake tracking, and item most of the time never arrives or even if you are lucky when it arrives it's all damaged, the us Sellers are another hassle, they charge so much for shipping, they rip you off., basically you pay interest on your credit card for waiting on some Chinese sellers which the item never arrives.so don't waste your time.just buy it from Amazon ,so you get your item in 3 days.
So far I’m happy with eBay services
So far I’m happy with eBay services. Had several large ticket items go missing minutes after delivery two years ago (among other items was most upsetting was the 2 huge packages of tv DVD box sets worth $700+) (among many other deliveries that went missing that year) (turned out to be neighbour) Ebay seller and CS promptly refunded the orders (I mean. It’s hard to prove your item “was stolen” or “delivered to possibly the wrong address” (which was my initial position on how parcels could track and update as delivered miraculously disappeared just minutes later (I was out there within 5 mins of the time stamp for crying out loud). All items so far since the discovery behind who was stealing them, that I’ve ordered has shown up and high quality and responsive and responsible sellers.
I AM SO DISSATISFIED WITH EBAY CUSTOMER SERVICE
Been a member for many years, first time selling. I was told my payment would be released on a particular date. It was not. I was again told that payment would be released at 1am. It was not.
When I called a third time I was told to ‘manage my expectation’. I asked to speak with a manager who said I was told wrong information. (By 3 different agents) They still will not release the payment until item is delivered. I understand if that is the protocol, however after speaking with 3 customer service agents and being told the wrong information, I have no confidence in selling on eBay in the future.

I have been with Ebay for over 19…
I have been with Ebay for over 19 years. I finally decided to leave Ebay due to Ebay's incompetence and the fact that Ebay outright lied. After a second seller misrepresented an item within a two week period I had enough. Ebay lied and decided to literally contradict themselves. I had photographic proof of such misrepresentation and a promise from Ebay on the phone they would have the seller refund my item, as long as I showed proof that the item was misrepresented and that I had sent the item back. I carefully reviewed with a customer service representative over the phone what I needed to do in order to receive a refund. I demonstrated the proof in pictures and in the auction description. Ebay agreed and when I contacted the seller they agreed as well they would refund the item. I had a track record of over 400 items bought with a perfect record with Ebay. (Even back in the day when Sellers could give negative feedback to buyers.) However after I sent the item to the seller with all the documentation and proof the seller stopped communicating with me. I spoke with Ebay and they immediately changed their mind and stated that I would not get a refund. I was shocked. They said I could take a grievance with Paypal. I talked to a customer service representative and they told me the decision was changed to the fact I would not receive a refund. I talked to a "supervisor" after waiting for an hour on the phone. The supervisor stated that the decision was to not give me a refund and I had no chance to appeal it. I was told if I appealed it the answer would be the same. The customer representative and supervisor even contradicted themselves on that same phone conversation. I asked to speak to a manager and again they put me on hold for an hour. I felt at this time that Ebay was giving me the run around. I knew Ebay would not stand by their original word, the seller had won. I even had the day/time and name of their customer service representative that told me what to do to get the refund and the representative that told me I would be getting a refund. However Ebay decided with the seller. At this point I put in negative feedback to the seller, after several attempts by me to contact the seller with no response. Ebay later removed the negative feedback. I was disgusted. I will say this, be warned if you buy from Ebay and you do not get what you want or even it mailed to you, Ebay will side with their larger sellers. They want their money over yours. Do not buy higher price items as you will certainly lose more of your money. So you take your chance that your seller is honest, some are definitely shady and misrepresent their items. Remember some of them sell out of their own homes. They are not always legit businesses. It is funny, I think about how many auctions I have bumped up the price for the seller and made not only the sellers money but Ebay as well. Well no more. These sellers can have their items go for lower prices or their Buy it Now can sit as I will not be a customer. Amazon.ca now has a new long time customer.
Last straw. I’m leaving for good
First time selling on eBay I got into a scam. I called CS support and agents tossed my between departments and gave no solutions after days of debate. I decided not to sell and stick with being a buyer. This time I bought from a seller who enrolled in Global Shipping program, charging me unnecessary import fees that are not required by the country of destination. I called CS again and dealt with an agent who kept cutting me off and ridiculously attempted to ‘educate’ me on matters of taxes and duties, when he himself could not make clear differentiation between import and export fees (srsly, hear yourself dude). Have I been a more experienced buyer I would refrain purchasing from any seller who uses the global shipping program. It does no one good, but allows eBay to make tons and tons of money out of the little fees they collected here and there. And provided their CS quality, as they kept shouldering off their responsibilities to the buyers and sellers, eBay is not worth your money (and time).
Only the scammers on this website
Only the scammers on this website, bad experience with the purchase of an antivirus. Money thrown by the window.
Ebay is awesome!
Love, love, love! eBay is my go to for items I can’t buy in store anymore like kids books from my childhood or toys etc.
Sometimes you run into untrustworthy sellers and that’s bound to happen. For the most part I have received most of what I have ordered from there or gotten a full refund. Can’t lose when there’s a money back guarantee! ❤️
I have tried selling but I’ll stick to buying...less hassle 😂
Pay pall are thief
be car full, when you buy on ebay even if you use your credit card it is paypall who charge the exchange and it is more then the one is at the date you buy .
Paypall refuse to give me the name of each ebay seller associated to the ebay seller name
And they charge more then what is mark on my ebay invoice 835$ instead 810 .00$ cnd
And what is on my statement on my visa
When I pay with my visa
paypall should not have the right to charge more then what the exchange is at the date I to the transaction
And the name on my visa does not match the name of the seller in ebay

Never received an item from ebay.ca seller which was paid in full including shipping via credit card
Never received an item from ebay.ca seller. Ordered a small electrical/electronic part that is around 1cm thick locally in Canada 18-20 days back and ebay.ca seller charged me more than $8 for shipping and shipped it with Canada post Letter mail . According to Canada Post you can ship only papers or letters in standard letter shipping that is 5mm thickness (max) and shipping cost for this local Canadian letter mail without any tracking information cost me more than $8 . Is the shipping fee is fair and do Canada post - is ever going to deliver such item which is bigger in size for standard letter mail..... ?
Is ebay.ca seller can legally send a small electrical part via Canada Post Lettermail (Shipping service) ?
FYI, Contacted customer service at ebay.ca couple times and seller too, they are just waste of time, telling me wait for a another 7 days and they are processing the refund since last week making excuses -> Canada post is on strike, seller refund is pending.... The Canada post , regular mail in letterbox is delivered in my area & regular mails are coming timely. One of these calls -> customer service at ebay.ca lasted for 21 minutes or more. Have not got my money refunded.
I've purchased the ebay.ca item as a guest, as this is my first experience with ebay.ca & the website is not letting me use the guest login to post this on their site. Tracking number is mentioned as REGULARMAILTWODAYDELIVERY
It is really frustrating that a two day delivery has become nightmare.
And Canada Post can't send even a small USB drive in regular mail as that does not fit into their slot size. This ebay seller has shipped my 10mm item in a regular canada post. Can't say the seller at ebay.ca has any trade, business ethics....
A great site for shopping on, depending on what you are looking for.
If you want antiques or real jewelry or anything else valuable, you really have to look out for those "too good to be true and obviously fake" deals. They do tend to originate from overseas countries but you never know. The price and picture sometimes gives it away.
For things like toys, collectibles, games and books, though, it is generally a much easier shopping experience; just know that not everything will be in pristine condition or look exactly like the picture shown. Especially if it is being shipped to Canada over a long distance, where handling and travel might give your package a few bumps and scrapes along the way.
Overall, I prefer going here to shop around and see what they have. I always look at the country it is being shipped from as well as the description of the item (a lack of description or nothing but a gallery for other things usually suggests the item may be a lemon; also, if the origin of the item seems fishy or lacking I pass it up).
I don't care about the ratings of shops so much as I care about the reviews they get; if a shop has 99.8% positive reviews but almost all of them are just stars and nothing else I immediately assume there are bots boosting the ratings. Darn bots.
I only had one slight issue with a seller from the lower 48 but it was resolved quickly and amiably. The buyer protection/ refund guarantee is a good thing to have but it may not work with sellers who only have to ignore you for the system to fall through.
A great site although one that isn't perfect- just like any other buying/selling platform. Still, I'd recommend it for certain things and not others.
If you purchase little things on eBay from Indian and other third world countries.
If you purchase little things, or small used items, it's a real hit and miss. Like vintage watches, from India. Because the guarantee will require you to pay for parcel return via fully trackable post. With Canada post this is often more expensive then the original item, and you are not compensated for this cost. So, even if there is refund or eBay guarantee, it's worthless, since the additional post to return a defective item is to expensive in Canada. And you are not compensated. If you try with a cheaper version with a Tracking number and pictures etc. eBay will not honour this. So, you just waste your time. Even if you raise a dispute and appeal, and send pics and docs it will not matter. Especially for items out of India, or Middle East, or Philippines. And many that offer free shipping it will take so long to get to your, you can not even leave feedback, since the window for feedback is short in many cases. So, if you order what seems like a good deal, especially from dealer like 'King.Yaser" kiss your money good bye. Don't bother with shipping back, nor trying to initiate a claim with Ebay. Waste of time and frustrating just to be told basically "too bad". Maybe Amazon is better, or just go to manufacture's own website. Might pay more, but at least some satisfaction, and you might get something that works. Used to buy lots on eBay, but am switching now, after a few frustrating situations. Even if I do buy something, I now know it's totally Buyer Beware and you may be totally out the cash period. You can take their (eBay) little text about buyers wanting to keep their reputations good, since you can not go and give them feedback if something takes long to deliver. Must be a setting by seller as some leave it up for long. Nor will bad comments on their store site be listed.
No help at all
