Disgusting way to handle people in…

Disgusting way to handle people in distress. No empathy as they are not listening or helping. They are robots who have no interest in you one bit. And end your conversation without an ending between you. Txt you the same time as others. It,s a one way conversation with people who shouldn,t be given the job of helping people in their moment of need, this joke set up should be abolished. 0 stars not 1 good thing to say except don,t bother get intouch with these cowboys

no one will talk to me

i have being waiting for a volenteur but i couldnt be asked to wait since it was taking so long so i opt out and i keep redoing it over and over but NOTHING! i trusted shout before but now im starting to not trust them anymore when i needed help for my mental health. and i dont know who to talk to anymore

It seems from the comments below that…

It seems from the comments below that the organisation does not have a sufficient amount of volunteers but the process to sign up as a volunteer is horrendous. I am in a professional job and provided two references and it was stuck on ‘reviewing the application’ for 4 weeks. When I queried this they stated that they needed another reference? It’s ashame for the people who are struggling and waiting hours for support….

i sat and waited for 4 hours with zero indication ANYONE cared. a waste of time and an utterly pathetic service. try literally ANYWHERE else.

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible! Asked me how I planned on killing myself (in them exact words! Even tho I hadn't said I was going to do that! I ended the conversation right there as I found that highly inappropriate. Totally no interest in talking just asked me that after pouring my heart out no mention of anything I'd said just how do you plan on killing yourself!

Scripted and stiff

It felt like the volunteer just didn't want to have the conversation in the first place. Was very impersonal with occasional comments on some things I said. Reached out to another service to help.

You cant get a volunteer because they…

You cant get a volunteer because they dont bother taking anybody on .My friend applied months ago ticked all the boxes and has just been deleted what do you actually want for free of charge work 😂You an absolute waste of time and judging by all the comments above you cant run a pee up in a brewery and your dealing with peoples lifes potentially you need your platform removing ......Wow what a reply just somes it up PLEASE read all the reviews about these people before you use them 😔

If you've got a complex mental health …

If you've got a complex mental health you won't get any help from anybody they don't these people don't care you can see why so many people kill themselves. They're only there to pick up a wage they don't care they don't want to deal with anybody who've got complex issues the only thing you will get from these people they will ring the police on you. you've got complex issues. These people don't care

30 minutes before answering, 5 minutes between each response. Stilted. Script, not caller led. Rude and authoritarian Ricky. Useless. And passing on calls to 3rd parties? Disgusting.

I really don't know how I found shout I was in such a bad way my mobile service provider is sky and everytime I msg I got a notification from sky telling me I was being charged for the msg shout reassured me that it was free I rang sky this morning and they confirmed it was a premium number and they agreed to quash the charges just beware because their advice isn't worth paying for

I'd like to assure you that our service is free to use from all major UK providers including Sky but some Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy handset, issue a warning that you will be charged for texting us but this warning is incorrect and you will not be charged.

scripted volunteers who sound like AI…

scripted volunteers who sound like AI bots.
i messaged shout last night and i left feeling less improved than before contacting them. i feel that there is a lack of emotion in the messages as well as rushing to get off the conversation.
generic messages like “you’re resilient” “how do you distract yourself”, i could probably get a more human response from chatGPT. lastly, i was directed to the CALM website. it felt like a kick in the teeth, really.
although i was asked to contact someone, i won’t use them again.

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful. Volunteer just gave scripted responses of "I understand" or "must be hard" and make no attempt to actually listen to you or make conversation. It was like I was inconveniencing them even though they volunteered.

I actually felt worse leaving the conversation than before starting and that is after they let me stew in silence for 90 minutes (which according to the other reviews is actually a quick response time).

Volunteers aren't the best

Volunteers aren't the least bit interested and I understand that it can be overwhelming listening to someone else's problems but at the same time why volunteer? They're reading from the same script as everyone else, asking the same questions which lead nowhere. It takes ages to get you connected unless you make a bold statement like wanting to end your life but even when they do get back to you they send you messages that are hard to respond to or make a conversation which just tells you how uninterested they are. Orlando was one of the worse volunteers I've had.

They Need to Improve…

This team have helped in the past, but since contacting them on and off from August until tonight, I’ve had to wait for hours before someone got in touch with me. I could’ve easily hurt myself or done something awful during the time I had to wait, and they don’t seem to care. And whenever I did chat to someone many months ago, I felt like I was on a time limit with that person, which made me feel a bit unsatisfied. I hope they improve their services soon

While the time of conversations can vary, we find that most last around 45 to 60 minutes and we aim to allow time for people to express their feelings and take support without feeling rushed.

Helped when I was overwhelmed

I used this service when I was feeling suicidal and overwhelmed, it took about 20 minutes to connect the first time I connected. Having someone to speak to was a huge help .

Another time I waited several hours. If your unhappy with the wait please consider volunteering with shout as I intend to do. They can only provide 24 hour help if enough people volunteer.

I did not get connected to a volunteer…


I did not get connected to a volunteer until 05:11 this morning. I appreciate that the helpline can get busy due to high demand, but I was unhappy about the long wait. The volunteer apologised late for the wait after I expressed multiple times that I was upset about not receiving an apology at the start of the chat. She did express that she misunderstood what I communicated, so I know it was not intentional, but I was disappointed that I had to ask for an apology.

This charity promotes itself as a 24/7… Not....

This charity promotes itself as a 24/7 helpline. Sadly in practice it is not. As for help, mmmmm it just sends links and then that's it.... Then you are told, if you feel bad later on just text back........ If it's the evening or night....... Then chances of a personal response are slim. Again you just get links to websites....... whilst waiting all those hours....
