The so-called royalty is a joke

I have been a royal Racq roadside assistance since 2014. I forgot to review it and it was just passed the expiry date. Got an issue for my car with flat battery, called and asked for help. I was treated as a new customer to start a new membership plus a call out fee for $160. I asked if they can waive the call out fee and renew my membership from the time I should pay. The staff who received the call asked me to be on hold, 10 minutes later, got back to me, although you have been with us 12 year, you still need to paid $229 including membership fee and call out fee. 14 years membership royalty means nothing, it's not even worth $100! It's just a joke. They are too big to care, too arrogant to care. Avoid any business with this company and go for the other company who cares about you.

It's difficult to describe how low this organisation is. Dealing with my dead mother's account with them. They are at best unhelpful, but mostly arrogant, utterly incompetent, dismissive and probably a lot worse than that. Avoid them at all costs.

Quick resolution to my Car insurance claim

Janelle took my initial call after I submitted my 'at. fault' claim on line. Such an easy resolution and a pleasant person. In less than 10 days I had my car back repaired and looking new. Thanks so much RACQ, Janelle and the assessor.

I got stuck with a tyre blowout out on…

I got stuck with a tyre blowout out on a mountain road. I called the police as emergency services are the only ones i can call with no reception. The police put me through to RACQ. Racq essentially told me that they would rather me die in the middle of the mountain road cause i wasnt able to pay them the joining fee than to come out and help me with my blow out. I guess the lesson here is to have the right equipment with you when your on the road. I wont be going with RACQ any time soon.

Do not use this insurance company for any policy purposes , contents insurance claimed denied twice , both being legitimate claims , for a company that provides motor burnout coverage they don’t follow through
Happy to take your money every month but not willing to give back

RACQ offered little

I called RACQ as I am a long term member. I knew that I had put too much oil in my car (my fault) and would damage the engine if I drove it. When roadside assist came out they only confirmed what I already knew and offered a tow to a mechanic work shop. I had to call a mobile mechanic to come and drain out some oil. I really think that when I consider how much I have spent on RACQ roadside over the years, more should be offered. Yes, it certainly does pay (cost you) to belong. Very disappointing.

Repeated Absence of Customer Qare

I was a member of Queensland Teachers Credit Union, now RACQ Bank, for 27 years and am in no way treated like a ‘Gold’ Member. My father has been with RACQ considerably longer than me.
In the previous 12 months, the following has occurred:
In Store: I made the effort to travel 15 minutes in store to withdraw a large sum of money. I was kept waiting over 35 minutes for service for a simple withdrawal as two agents were working on computers, and then couldn’t work out how to process the withdrawal, and a third just greeted customers. Upon complaint and a request for compensation for my wasted time, I was met with excuses.
Phone issue: I called five times to sort out an email address change issue. RACQ had not fixed the issue and continued to send emails to the previous email address. I continued to waste my time calling to get the issue fixed.
Phone issue: I called to find out about a card replacement as my old card was expiring. I was told the wrong information the number of times I rang and made repeated trips to my PO Box to check for this card that I was told was being sent by a specified date. It wasn’t another phone call later, when the card had not arrived by the date I was told, that a service agent told me I had been given the wrong information, and it was not going to be sent until January. I had wasted time and petrol with trips to my PO Box.
Road Service: My father paid his RACQ road service at the Post Office and had a receipt as proof. He went in store to sort out an account and took his road service receipt as proof of identify and was told that his road service had not been paid, there was no record of it on the RACQ system. The bank staff took a copy of his payment as evidence and I, who was with my father at the time, confirmed three times with the person who served him, that this issue needed to be sorted out in case of a breakdown and that my father be called back to be told the issue was resolved for his peace of mind. No call was ever received. I, on my father’s behalf, had to follow this up, and was told it was a technical issue that RACQ was having with a change over of systems and that he would have been covered if he had needed road service. Did I believe them? Absolutely NOT! If RACQ road service would not have a record of payment of their system, there is no way they would send out assistance!
Insurance: My father received his home/contents insurance renewal. We called to confirm over the phone this renewal and checked the details and confirmed that his renewal payment would be debited from his account. We also confirmed that if there was an issue with payment, he would be contacted. A week or so after the payment was supposed to be taken, we called RACQ to find that no payment had been taken from his account and that he wasn’t covered by insurance because the service agent spoken to originally had not done what should have been done. The second service agent had the nerve to say that my father would not have been covered in the event of a claim, even though it was clearly the fault of RACQ! This complaint to RACQ has yet to be submitted but absolutely will be.
Luckily, there is a record of all these interactions for the Ombudsman.

I was crashed by a scammer

From my own experience, its very clear some RACQ employees have associated themselves with crash scammers. Really need to watch out this insurance company. If you are involved in crash and you think its a scam, dont lose your cool, instead, accept the reputable courtesy vehicles from repairers. and tell them your situation. and ask what approach they will take if RACQ suddenly refuse to pay the rental cars. If you are absolutely right in the crash, and the rental operator wont chase after you for the money, then take the rental cars. Its your right. Dont let RACQ take advantage of you. Dont give out any details to RACQ employees or lawyers that contact you after you have had crash. Just remain a clear head what you are gonna do next.

RACQ are a bunch of scammer !!!!

My Mother has recently died at the age of 57 of a brain aneurysm she was in hospital for 15 days before passing away during this time. Due to her state of consciousness my mother was not able to use her phone because she was on life-support and check her emails which we were also able to access due to passwords. RACQ was quick to cancel her home insurance without taking any other actions like sending the house a letter or contact contacting the bank who has interest in the property.

The property has recently received some damage from the hail storms Queensland has had. RACQ is quick to dust their hands clean and want nothing to with it even though my mother had been a long time member through , but offered once we get probate sorted be sure to contact them to start a new policy which right now I’ll never be doing anything with them again!!! . I do not recommend anything with RACQ!!!

Inaction and Mismanagement: Our RACQ home Insurance Horror Story

We’ve had an extremely frustrating experience with RACQ Home Insurance over our storm-damage claim lodged in December 2024. For 11 months, RACQ has consistently failed to communicate. We have spent countless hours on the phone trying in vain to speak with someone who understands our claim, and each time it’s a different person, forcing us to restart the story. Trades and contractors would often ghost us without notice, and when they did eventually attend, they came in the wrong order and were unable to complete their work. In particular RACQ's “make safe” measures for ceiling mould were woefully inadequate, consisting basically of some masking tape over a small triangular piece of tarp which fell down after 2 days, leaving our young children exposed to the health risks of uncontrolled mould for many months. The extensive delays had resulted in much more extensive structural damage to our property due to uncontrolled wood rot/mould and further water damage.

Two formal internal complaints to RACQ resulted in no meaningful action and further gaslighting. RACQ continues to delay to this day, now asking for a third leak detection test with no schedulable date as an excuse not to proceed, and bizarrely claim that irrelevant issues with lower window trims can somehow defy gravity and cause ceiling mould above them. We have had no choice but to escalate the matter to AFCA. We wouldn't wish our experience with RACQ on our worst enemy. Pls avoid RACQ at all costs if you value your property and your sanity.

Extremely Disappointed with RACQ - Poor Service & Questionable Practice

I am absolutely furious with RACQ’s handling of my recent claim. My vehicle was involved in an accident that was no fault of my own—it was parked safely when a lady reversed into an IGA building and then collided with my car. For context, I’ve been a loyal RACQ customer, insuring three vehicles with them, but after this experience, I am seriously reconsidering my options.

After the accident, I sent my car to their Pinkenba centre for an assessment. They took over a week to even look at my vehicle, and when they finally did, things only got worse. Without informing me, they moved my car to Archerfield (Pickles Auction), and during the move, they scratched the rear quarter panel on the driver’s side. No apology, no acknowledgment—just complete negligence.

RACQ then declared my car a write-off, but here's where things get shady. They included parts in their estimate that didn’t need to be replaced and inflated the repair costs so that the car would be written off. The independent assessor they used, QMV, has a horrendous reputation (mostly negative reviews), and it’s clear they’re just doing whatever RACQ pays them to do. The whole process felt like they were trying to flip my expensive car for a quick profit, hoping to make money from it instead of giving me a fair settlement.

Not wanting to just accept this, I paid out of pocket for my own independent assessor, a highly reputable and nationally recognized expert with over 400 positive reviews. His findings were shocking—RACQ had undervalued my car by $30,000 and inflated repair costs. I have submitted this issue to the Financial Ombudsman in hopes of getting some justice, but I strongly urge anyone reading this to be wary when dealing with RACQ. Their practices are incredibly questionable, and they do not seem to care about their customers, even loyal ones.

To anyone considering RACQ for insurance: BE CAREFUL. Their customer service is appalling, and they seem more interested in profits than treating you fairly. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I received road assistance on Sunday…

I received road assistance on Sunday when my EV had a flat tire and, unfortunately, no spare. Since no tire shops were open on the weekend and it was raining, I truly appreciated the extra effort Tyson made to help me. He went above and beyond to get me back on the road safely.

Tyson was professional, kind, and patient throughout the whole process. His dedication really stood out, especially under such difficult conditions.

This service took place around 12 p.m. on November 9 in Mango Hill. I highly recommend Tyson for his outstanding support — I hope this feedback helps him and the company as well!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Avoid this insurance at all costs, they took 6 months to tesolve an insurance claim and ultimately cover nothing through the fine print. I would NEVER recommend RACQ INSURANCE TO ANYONE

I have been with RACQ for 37 years and…

I have been with RACQ for 37 years and never made a claim, this year my insurance went up another hundred dollars a year and my excess was increased from $750 to $1000, I rang them up to say I cant afford these extra charges and the lady told me thats their policy and did I want to cancel my Insurance, after 37 years absolutely no loyalty at all

RACQ looking after the elderly

just recently discovered how RACQ look after the elderly. My 85 year old mother in law recently renewed her car insurance policy with RACQ, She owns a 2011 VW Jetta that is in immaculate condition both mechanically and visually with less than 60 thousand km. After looking at her new policy I was both astonished and discussed at what they had done. So the market value of a 2011 VW Jetta in the eyes of RACQ is $2000. And yes, I did find the odd VW Jetta for sale for maybe 2 - 5 thousand dollars but they had well over 200 thousand km and looked like they had been sat in a field for 5 years. I mean try and find a car In this condition with immaculate service history in perfect working condition for 2k. Absolutely disgraceful, good job RACQ and thank you for looking after the elderly.

Late payment notification only bye…

Late payment notification only bye email is a joke we have a rural property and there is no service for internet so if something is missed than we don’t know about it! I’m glad we came back to the coast early otherwise I would’ve had my insurance cancelled. Told I have to pay the full month then wait for a refund for the rest if I cancel? This country is not set up for online only the internet is not safe too many scammers and yet everyone is forced to go this way well what happens when it’s not accessible like my property in Tara? Also I’m a 50yr old I don’t use technology like most people my phone isn’t in my hand 24/7! It’s pathetic that we have phones linked to an account yet you choose not to notify your customers this way. If we stayed till the end of the month than we would have driven home uninsured that’s not a good thing! When will companies wake up and realise not everyone use computers and internet. And it’s not 100% reliable.
