Unauthorised Hard Credit Search After Declining Renewal – Extremely Poor Handling

I had been a loyal customer with Rias for years without any issues. However, at renewal I was given a very high quotation, so I decided to move to Aviva instead — saving £130 compared to the renewal price Rias offered.

On the morning of 17 February, I contacted Rias to confirm that I did not want to renew my policy when it expired on 1 March. They confirmed the renewal cancellation the same day.

Despite this, their underwriter Ageas carried out a hard credit search on 25 February — more than a week after I declined renewal and without my consent.

This unauthorised search has negatively affected my TransUnion credit score.

To make matters worse, the cancellation email Rias sent went straight to my junk folder, so I emailed them again later the same day asking for confirmation. Even after confirming that I was not renewing, Ageas still processed my data and ran a hard search.

I am now having to dispute this with TransUnion and chase both companies to correct a mistake that was entirely theirs. The amount of stress, confusion, and unnecessary effort caused by something so basic is unacceptable.

Customers should not have to deal with unauthorised credit checks or clean up the consequences of poor internal communication between a broker and its underwriter.

From start to finish RIAS made the…

From start to finish RIAS made the claim process extremely easy. Nothing was an inconvenience. They arranged for a car company to bring a car to my door whilst taking my car away to be repaired. Then when I picked my car up from the garage, I simply left the hire car there to be collected.
Very good service!

There are several ways in which you can cancel your policy.

You can cancel via your online account, you can call us on 0800 183 9261 for home insurance or 0345 650 1212 for motor insurance, or you can speak with us via Live Chat.
(Opening hours are 08.30 - 18.00 Monday to Friday and 08.30 - 16.00 Saturdays - Bank Holiday hours may vary)

Excellent in fact exceptional customer service .
The whole process from quote to buying the policy was flawless and the customer service was quite frankly the best I’ve ever had from any insurer.

Left me with an uninsured property as…

Left me with an uninsured property as they did not register my late father’s online bereavement form that I completed so really not impressed. I do not normally leave reviews but just felt very let down by RIAS.

Premium increase of 47% with no changes…

Premium increase of 47% with no changes in circumstances or additional claims. Made it very difficult to work out the increase by not referring to the old premium when the renewal notice for the new premium was sent out
