I have now been insured with AXA via Southdowns for the second consecutive year. On my last trip to Italy my luggage was stolen from our rented car at a service area on our way to our destination from Milan airport.
As there wasn’t any sign of breakage, we only noticed the missing luggage at our arrival at destination when offloading the car boot.
After calling AXA to report the happening we were reassured and asked to file a full claim via the AXA website on our return. We went to the Carabinieri (Italian police) to raise an official theft report.
When back home, after all the inconvenience that a stolen bag abroad can cause. It took me 3 days to raise the claim as AXA website was not working.
All the above, frustration, waste of time, money loss but mainly loss of my intimate values… All this for absolutely nothing, as my claim to AXA was refused due to one clause, which makes absolutely no sense.
So, the clear conclusion is that having a travel insurance with AXA is pointless as in any case they will find any excuse on the (small print) to avoid paying what you lost. One thing they will never be able to pay me back, my loss of time and effort in raising a claim for pointless cover. Rest assured, I will never insure myself again with any related AXA travel company in the future and I will share my disappointing experiences with anyone who asks.

Automatic renewal with no clear opt out when signing up for the policy. Be careful in a year you'll have a charge you weren't expecting.

Shocking company to deal with if trying to make a claim, weblinks don't work, they drag it out, phone calls you are advised to go to a webpage. call backs go around in circles.
