A curate's egg. Some good, some bad.

I've been reading the Graun for 30+ years. It used to be the main centre-left UK newspaper, and something of a voice of reason among the rabid tabloid press, but in recent years has followed an eccentric orbit that has taken it into the realm of sub student union politics.

Sure there are some excellent journalists still remaining- Marina Hyde and John Crace spring immediately to mind- but there are far more purveyors of asinine dross- like Owen Jones and Arwa Mahdawi, tedious wordsmiths who wouldn't have been given column space in the past.

I can only assume that the Graun is feeling the pinch- like most traditional media- and that these hacks must work for next to nothing. They're certainly not there because of their ability.

The news and sports coverage is still pretty good, but the opinion pieces are frankly laughable.

I remain politically on the left, but not in a space I share with the Graun any more.

Worst newspaper in existence

Worst newspaper in existence. They lie about the vast majority of issues and only provide one biased point of view (which can only be described as propaganda). Sad to see in this day and age.

Posh Tory Rory

Posh Tory Rory is exactly what it says on the tin. If he had a tin. His nearly 10 years as a Tory politician was more than enough to enable this execrable farce of a government to bring about the destruction of our country and society.
Spare us your crocodile tears Rory. The Tory party has just completed its mission to destroy us the ordinary people and it was misguided people like you who set it up. Once a Tory always a Tory, Rory.

Tim Byrne needs to be called out

I recently read Tim Byrne's review of Sunset Boulevard in the Australian edition of The Guardian. And I was absolutely appalled by the way he wrote about Sarah Brightman's performance as Norma Desmond. He writes, "she seems to suck in lungfuls of air like a guppy, only to release a breathy, stretched and haltingly phrased series of notes that barely travel over the orchestra pit". This description is needlessly harsh and really insensitive considering that Sarah is battling Motor Neuron Disease. This performance of Sunset Boulevard is actually Sarah Brightman's first time singing in 30 years. And given that she was diagnosed with MND early last year, there's a possibility that this return to the stage was meant to be a farewell before her condition took away her ability to walk and talk. Tim Byrne has always been a malicious troll, but having a go at someone battling a serious disability is going too far. Someone at The Guardian needs to tell Tim to stop being a jerk and start treating artists with respect.

It is so frustrating

It is so frustrating. The Guardian has the occasional article which hits the nail right on the head, perceptive, ethical, moral and cultural. At other times it will argue about the colour of a Conservative MP's tie just for the sake of getting a swing at the Tory Party. Its reputation would rise in leaps and bounds if it could only be more balanced, but until then, the Guardian will continue to be derided as 'Left-Wing rubbish' .

Misleading article in The Guardian relating…

Read article in The Guardian relating to an immigrant cyclist not wanting to go to the Bobby Stockholm. They have written a misleading article and have had it promoted in the BBC news which cannot be discussed on The Guardians website.

The article relates to an immigrant who has no income, has won some cycle races in the past, but is not a professional cyclist (as the BBC reporting subsequently said) and has no means to support themselves. This case is one of someone who has chosen to leave their own country and seek asylum for no specified reason other than they didn’t like it. The article claims that the generosity of the UK to house them at tax payers expense is not adequate and that they deserve more.

There is no rational argument for them to have special treatment, they have chosen the path that they are on and if they were able to earn a living as a professional then they would not be in this situation. The Guardian and the BBC are misrepresenting our duties and the rights of a refugee to preferential treatment which is effectively positioned as a political discussion. This is neither accurate in fact, nor is it morally right, the person is in a situation that is not pleasant and I am sure they would not choose it if they had a good life, but that does not qualify them for special treatment that is not available to others.

Guardian is misleading public about atrocious Israeli crimes in genocide against Gaza and West bank

Guardian is continuously failing to report on continuing Israeli genocide in Gaza and West bank. There are mass graves with hundreds of civilians found in hospitals in Gaza and other atrocities like 2 children being burned alive only yesterday in West bank by Israeli settlers. Guardian describes genocide in Rafah and bombing civilian who were 5 times displaced in tents as "Israel fighting Hamas in Jabalia camp" once again. Even the reality is that toddlers are being blown up to pieces and newborn children are being shot in the head which I have seen with my own eyes in video footage as soon as I woke up. Guardian is also failing to report about torture camps in Israel with grown men being ziptied to beds, amputated limbs and kept in nappies, electrocuted and tortured on daily basis until their death. One of them was a surgeon from Gaza as well. All of this is documented and has wide available proof on other media outlets, even Western ones.

I read The Guardian everyday. Based in the UK but covers stories in North American you won't see elsewhere. Spends money on real journalism rather than just pulling news off the wires or spreading celebrity gossip.

Subscribed via a promotion through…Apple

Subscribed via a promotion through Apple but I found that I could not access the news via my iPhone or iPad as the Guardian app would not recognise my email address. When The Guardian "help" was alerted they indicated that it was all to do with "Apple" and not their problem. Been trying to fix this issue for 4 months now. Having the problem sorted out with two conglomerates in the picture is impossible! Be aware and stay away from 3rd party subscriptions!

I used to read and trust the Guardian a long time ago. Don’t know what happened over the years, but it has gotten progressively worse and has now blatantly turned into a very leftist biased rag. I no longer recognise it, my blood regularly reaches boiling points reading some of the truly appalling, biased, hateful and dishonest articles it now publishes. Awful.

Impossible to cancel subscription- insists I must send an email from a non-existent email address (yet they didn’t care about this when deducting monthly payments). I have now contacted my bank and if they won’t honour my request to cancel the subscription I will just have to close my bank account on principle and change banks!

Ridiculous, unhelpful customer service.

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE.

I checked 3 star

I checked 3 star, because I just read an article about children being shot in Gaza. The article “implies” the children were shot by Israeli snipers with .50 caliber ammunition.
Be it known, .50 ammo is used by the enemies of Israel as well. So, just because it was .50 cal. doesn’t mean it was fired by Israel. Okay!

Biased newspaper

Was a contributor on comment is free section for many years, regularly commenting on news/politics etc., with comments regularly featured. But last night my account was disabled for commenting on a cartoon about the Israeli conflict. Have noticed that the paper is clamping down on free speech with regard to this conflict, obviously taking sides with the present oppressors/aggressors.
Have now cancelled my account.
This is a very biased newspaper.

Subscription cancelling difficulty

I have been unsuccessfully trying to cancel my subscription payments to the guardian online for 3 months, I have emailed and called multiple times without success. I have forgotten my username that I used to set it up and without that username they will not cancel even if you can provide the card details. The only option available to me is to cancel my card and have it reissued with a different number. This is a major pain and it should not be this hard.

Oscars review seems biased

Emma Stone just won an Oscar for her role in Poor Things. The Guardian columnist chose to use the phrase "picked up more awards" for a film that won another 3 oscars and has been discussed sO much all around the world. Why?
