1st class service very attentive and prompt payment every time would recommend
Complete rip off
Complete rip off. I purchased a family policy through my employer, following a lot of research into the policy. However I missed a very important item which is hidden in the fine print - all dependents ‘share’ benefits so they are not treated as full people (humans) like adults.
This means the amount of cover for routine hygiene and exam appointments is extremely limited. If you have more than one child it is not worth it. I’ve filed a complaint as this needs to be made more clear and does not align with family policies from competitors.
Furthermore this kind of policy does not promote good dental health habits especially for children.
Underpays your claims - complete scam. Avoid.
Supposed to have 100% NHS Band cover based on their policy and FAQ but they have reimbursed me far less than this. Unclear why.
And they did not flag to me that they had underpaid my claim either - merely sending an email that said Your Claim Has Been Approved when they underpaid by £100+.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. I will be complaining about this to HR at my company to remove them as a supplier and lodging a complaint with the FS Ombudsman. What a con job.
Useless website. Doesn’t do what it says
This website is pretty useless. It’s very user friendly and setup is easy. But it doesn’t actually work. We prepared an entire company launch around its scheduling tool and it failed to post as scheduled despite having auto post selected. It has hugely dented our analytics for launch and I would NOT recommend using them. Fail of a company.
22% increase in cost this year
22% increase in cost this year and yet they still hold some money back from claim values. If you have good teeth and don't visit the dentist more than once a year, I'd not touch Unum, they consistently do not match the costs of treatment.
Impossible to cancel policy
I emailed to ask to cancel my policy as I do not need it and I have been refused on the basis I have to wait until my policy renewal, checked the terms and conditions and as I haven’t made a claim since the policy renewal and it states I can cancel. I informed them of this and they then come back telling me I cannot cancel unless I leave Royal Mail (I purchased this cover through my work payroll). This is utterly unfair and money grabbing, wish I never took out the cover in the first place. Take my advice and take your business elsewhere!!
Must be Incapacitated to claim.
I have been told that the individual must be incapacitated to claim the Income protection, a very limited income protection, I would recommend taking the income protection with another provider and searching for the top 3 payout providers to ensure the security is there.
Avoid, small percentage of claim paid back
Feels like a scam to me, I have lvl 4 cover for me and my wife and three daughters, lvl 4 is for private dental care, lvl 5 bring the highest, my first bill was for a tooth extraction for 279 pounds, I got back 88, my daughter had a double extraction for 570 pounds she got back 20, so to summarize between us we paid 850 and got back 108, the cover states maximum claims per year of up to 1200 but to get this back how much would I have to spend, I'm actually paying more a year than I'm going to claim. Absolute joke, I will talk to my employer about this company, my advise is to avoid at all costs.
Service not worth the price for a dental policy
Staff are rude in their replies when answering queries or avoid answering questions. I raised a query regarding a claim, as the total amount paid back based on my dentist cover was lower than I expected, just to be told that they originally overpaid me and that I owed them money instead, but didn't give an explanation of the reason. I asked several times why but they ignored my questions and kept saying I owed a certain amount with no clear reason.
The cover level is very basic and hardy worth the insurance cost, in my case their insurance (even with a high-level plan) covers not even 30% of the dental expenses. Some dental treatment seems to have better cover at NHS level than with private dentist.
Pros:
Replies to queries and overall speed is 'relatively' quick (around 2-3 days turnaround)
Cons:
-Portal is very basic and outdated
-Staff tend to be somewhat rude or ignore your questions
-The company will go the extra mile to avoid paying in full
-Better off going to an NHS dentist than with a particular (NHS dental cover seems to be actually higher than the cover for particular dentist)
14 Day Cooling Off Period Does Not Apply
Phoned up to inform Unum UK today that I have changed my mind and no longer require their policy. The first direct debit payment has not been taken yet and I will not be using the service. They have told me that I cannot cancel the policy, and I have to keep it for 12 months before I can cancel it.
Absolutely fantastic insurance company
Absolutely fantastic insurance company. I've never had to have private dental care and from start to finish Unum have been so easy. Making a claim is as easy as it is to send a photo on WhatsApp. Claims are sorted so quickly. Ll of mine have been within hours and that includes weekends. I cannot recommend this company enough to anyone need dental insurance

I had radiant 4. They still declined payments,or paid part of bills only. I loosed money there.
Really poor value for money
This is dental insurance organised by my employer. It seems really poor value for money. My last dental appointment was £140, but they would only reimburse £26 towards it. Which they said is what an NHS dentist gets for the two treatments I had. I am actually losing money with this dental insurance.
If I could cancel the policy I would but I’m trapped for the year.
Slow claims + bad online portal
Unum is provided through my company for dental and optics insurance, and the first notable issue is that they require you to use separate email addresses and passwords for separate policies, I.e. you cannot have multiple policies linked to the same account!
Furthermore, their claims process is quite slow, with their customer service often taking 1+ weeks to reply to emails, and the couple of claims I have made having been processed wrong. In total, it has taken me around a month both times to get the claims processed, filled with lots of back and fourth emails from inattentive customer service.
Overall would suggest going elsewhere.
Kinda worth it
It's terms and conditions on what you can claim in a year are set out in a nice easy to read table. The claims process it a bit of a pain compared to other plans.
The only problem is that even on the highest plan I can get it still wouldn't cover the costs of the cheapest dentist near me. I might look for an alternative but I have signed up for another year for now.

Claims service is too slow and they’re not transparent with payments.
Most disappointing
They make claiming so difficult.
I have two dental policies, and alternate between Simplyhealth.co.uk and Unum.co.uk.
Simplyhealth makes claims simplistic and pays immediately, Unum makes the whole process painful.
Unum Comms are awful and their cover restricted.
Obviously I shall not be renewing my policy.
Being treated horribly
I did call the 24/7 help line, earlier his evening but I regreted it so badly.
The first person who took the call appeared to be so unaccommodating and impatient with me. She accue.sed me to be rude and described her as feeling uncomfortable and attacked and ended he call.
I am confused either she was a customer or myself?
It made me feel worse and wished that I did not make that mistake to seek support from them.
However it is an oposit experience to my two previous call tha I was treated professionally and respectfully.
I am going to make a complaint against this person as she needs to know the employees who need to call their line, are in need for support not being penalised or judged.
I feel so sad for this experience!
