Grove & Dean - £35 for doing nothing
I took out Home insurance with Grove & Dean, but within three hours I found better cover and a lower premium with another broker. I phoned Grove & Dean and advised that I wished to cancel, but I was advised that as the policy wasn't active I must email to cancel. I emailed and in due course I received confirmation. Imagine my surprise when Grove and Dean charged me a £35 brokers fee. Taking £35 for doing nothing should send a message to prospective customers.
Reply to Grove and Dean response.
Molly from Grove and Dean replied stating that the fee stood due to admin costs. As a member of the staff on the initial phone call stated the policy had not been created, what are the admin costs.
Processing the application - NO
Arranging the cover - NO
Regulatory requirements - NO
Administer the policy - NO

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your experience.
We would like to clarify that our £35 cancellation fee is clearly disclosed before purchase and forms part of the policy documentation and terms provided to customers. While your policy was cancelled within the 14-day cooling-off period, this fee is not a charge for insurance cover itself, but an administration fee for the work carried out by us as the broker in arranging and setting up the policy.
As a broker, we incur costs when establishing a policy, including processing the application, arranging cover with the insurer, carrying out regulatory requirements, and administering the policy on your behalf. These costs arise regardless of how long the policy remains in force, which is why the administration fee applies when a policy is cancelled during the cooling-off period.
We appreciate that finding a more suitable policy elsewhere is frustrating after purchasing cover, and we understand your disappointment. However, the fee was applied in accordance with the terms that were agreed to at the point of sale.

If I could zero I would I am sick to…
If I could zero I would I am sick to death about being ripped off with insurance companies! Twice in the last 3 months I had to cancel my van insurance with grove and dean due to my old van failing an mot badly and purchasing a new van only to be told that if I wanted to change details to my new van it would cost nearly £800.00 but if I had a new quote it would cost me roughly £340.00!! Does this make sense to anybody!! So I had to cancel my existing policy and I lost nearly £90.00 getting back just over £40.00 when my policy cost me £257.65 which I took out on 28/07/26 please stay away from these insurance companies who use brokers as I said this is the second time this has happened to me but the other one was to do with house insurance.
