This review is directed solely at the Hay-Adams. I booked a stay at the HayAdams in DC, using PrivateUpgrades.
The booking was very easy and pleasant.
It included some additional amenities. One of those amenities included a room upgrade, when available.
When we checked in, I inquired about a possible upgrade and was told that the hotel was completely full and that there were no rooms available. Ok, no problem. The original room that I booked, was an Executive Suite. When we got to our room, it was a standard room with a king bed and very small. I called down to the front desk and asked if the room given to us was an Exec Suite. He advised us that no, it wasn’t. I said “well, that’s the room that I had booked.” He then sent someone up, to show us the Executive Suite and we could decide which room we wanted.
1. Why were we not put in the suite to begin with, since that’s what I booked?
2. If the hotel was “completely full”, then how did you have a suite to show us?
I don’t appreciate being lied to.
Of course we switched rooms. The suite was twice a big as the room.
The bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress was really hard.
The first day, we tried to call down to get our rental car brought up, but our phone wouldn’t work. So we had to go down to the lobby and ask there and ended up waiting 15 minutes for our car.
The second day there, we used their complimentary bicycles and rode around town.
My bike chain came completely off and my husband got all greasy trying to put it back on.
The food in the restaurant was mediocre at best.
The lighting in the bathroom was dim and made it very difficult to put makeup on. There was a pedestal sink and no where to place your makeup and toiletries.
For a 5 star and VERY expensive hotel, we expected a lot more.
If you’re going to spend $2400 for 3 nights, you’d be better off staying at the Waldorf Astoria.

After publishing my review, PrivateUpgrades contacted me 3 times by email, strongly encouraging me to delete my review on Trustpilot. This review was based on the actual hotel stay and I wouldn’t delete it because I felt that other consumers could benefit from our experience and help to decide which hotel to stay at.
However, PrivateUpgrades seems more concerned with a dissatisfied review than actually caring for their customers.
In reading other negative reviews, their responses are always the same. Derogatory in nature and offensive.

Super relaxing in the middle of Orchard road

The service i received at Crown Plaza - and value for money plus the US$100 credit plus room cost was unbelieveable. Highly recommended this site to professionals i know in Australia.

Another perfectly organized stay, this time at the Okura Hotel Tokyo. Excellent hotel with friendly and perfectly trained staff. We really enjoyed the Japanese-inspired hotel, our beautiful room and the privileges provided by PrivateUpgrades. We look forward to our next booking!

I received a fantastic Suite upgrade at the Ritz-Carlton with superb amenities.

Great value for money especially having the buffet breakfast and choice of lunch or dinner included. It made this stay a beautiful experience. The food and staff were amazing. The rooms were clean and modern decor. Definitely a five star hotel loved it!

Easy to book a hotel for the same price as online, but with several benefits. I ended up getting a double upgrade at the property, which was an unexpected and appreciated.

Once again, Private Upgrades more than knocked it out of the ballpark for our booking at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was the most beautiful room we have ever stayed in. Everything Luca at Private Upgrades arranged for us was perfect- thank you again Luca.

A real treat to deal with a company that proactively wants to get you the best deal and ensure you have a good holiday.
First time I used them and will definitely use them again. Would definitely recomend to anyone looking for a great deal with a company that has genuine experience with the hotels they are offering and go that extra mile to help you.

Very impressed with the savings from this website. I have to admit, I didn't know whether it was real as savings were really impressive compared to anywhere else I could find. The number of extra perks that we got was also impressive. Definitely will be my first site to check out before I book another trip.
