DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
Don't do what you pay for, ignore all communications and then accuse you of not responding. Lost all info we gave them and constantly changed their minds on what was required.

I undertook an extension on our family home which I was advised to use assent BC for the project to comply with building regulations and get a certificate. I paid for the service in full over £800 and was told that included the visits and issue of final certificate. The inspector assigned in honesty was really good and helpful and have no issue which his personal service. However when we were nearly complete he was due to retire so gave us some notice and a list of snags he needed to see before he would issue the completion. We did these promptly as to avoid needing to change inspector. He came out to visit when we all done and said he was now happy to sign off and would submit his visits to assent and they would issue the final certificate. A couple of months later I hadn’t received anything so spoke and messaged the inspector who said he had processed and submitted all his end and HQ were just slow. After a further few months I again tried to contact the inspector but he had now retired and told me to chase with assent but should be no issue. (Have messages of this). They said they had closed my case and would no longer issue the certificate with no valid reason. I have issued a complaint to which they have fobbed me off with an email with again no valid reason why they won’t fulfil there obligation I paid in full for. The agree they have all the visits recorded up to date but will still not do anything further including any type of refund. I find it disgusting how they have treat us trying to improve our family home after paying them what is a large amount of money to us. Has anyone any advice how to escalate this to a regulator or ombudsman. The last email asked for the messages between myself and the building inspector which I sent them and now they have been ignoring me for 4 weeks. Iv asked how to appeal or for there regulator but just get ignored. Will now be seeking leagal advice to take to small claims court. Don’t use them by far the worst service iv ever had.

Most unprofessional and incompetent…
Most unprofessional and incompetent company I have dealt with. We completed our renovation works over a year ago and I have still not received the completion certification despite chasing the team (only by email as they do not answer their calls) for well over six months. The keep saying that their technical team will revert with the completion certificate each time I send them a message but they are not taking any action.

Absolutely Awful Experience – Avoid Assent at All Costs!
If I could give Assent Building Control zero stars, I would. Our experience with them has been nothing short of a disaster from start to finish. My brother and I had two new builds going up simultaneously, and one of Assent’s directors, advised us to put a joint building control application through. This turned out to be one of the worst decisions we could have made – entirely due to Assent’s incompetence.
Because only one name could be listed on the application, I was completely locked out of dealing with Assent directly. Every single query, issue, or piece of correspondence had to go through my brother, meaning I was unable to manage my own build effectively. This was a ridiculous setup and should never have been suggested in the first place.
But that was just the start of the nightmare. Assent failed at every possible stage of the process, neglecting to report any progress to the warranty company – a warranty company they themselves had instructed! For the first six months, major build stages were completely ignored, meaning that essential inspections were missed. This led to massive delays and serious stress when Protek (our warranty company – who, by contrast, were fantastic) had to step in and undo Assent’s incompetence. We were forced to reopen parts of the build just to prove things had been constructed correctly – an unnecessary and costly disruption that could have been avoided if Assent had done their job properly.
And the issues didn’t stop there. Even now, despite this problem supposedly being “fixed” over a year ago, Assent still has the property listed as a joint application, meaning I’m still unable to speak to them directly. After calling to address yet another issue, I was met with some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. A female member of staff from the Wakefield office was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful, refusing to provide any useful assistance. When I asked for her manager’s contact details, she outright refused – and then hung up on me.
The sheer incompetence, disorganisation, and appalling customer service from Assent Building Control has made the entire building process a nightmare. They have no idea what they are doing, their communication is non-existent, and their lack of accountability is staggering. Avoid them like the plague – they will only cost you time, money, and endless frustration.
Losing inspection notes, cancelling project half way through
Losing inspection notes, changing their minds retrospectively as to what needs to be done and finally cancelling the sign off half way through the project as they no longer have the correct license (without advising me first)! I now have to find another firm to finalise my project and incur additional cost. ABC refuses to refund the part that they haven't delivered.
Real cowboys, stay away.

Avoid at all costs. In common with many other posters here, Assent dropped my case because they decided not to renew their RBCA licence. When I tried to arrange a final inspection with them, I was astonished to learn that they had dropped my case some two months earlier without telling me.
When I complained, I was sent a complete set of their terms and conditions, and told to have good look at the clauses relating to Termination of Appointment. After having had a good read, I can confirm that there is nothing in their Terms and Conditions that allowed them to Terminate our Appointment. In fact, there was a requirement on Assent to give me written notice and 28 days to respond to their intention to Terminate our Appointment. They have failed to do this, so if anyone is in breach of the Terms and Conditions, it is Assent.
I note that Assent have responded to other posters on this forum, telling them, "We acted in accordance with our terms and conditions". In common with other posters on this forum, I am starting legal proceedings against Assent because they simply have not done the thing I paid them to do and their communication has been abysmal. Nobody in the company wants to take responsibility, lots of shrugging of shoulders. I've been stuck with a bill for over £1,000 from my local authority because apparently, I now have an illegal extension.

This company will happily take your money and not deliver. They did not carry out surveys at appropriate intervals and when they did complete surveys the reports were poorly written (or not provided at all) despite being paid to complete these. But most importantly they failed to raise building non conformances until long after my builders (Protrade Builders Ltd - RG10 8LD) had run off leaving my house non compliant with building regs and a cost to rectify of in excess of £50k. Had they have picked up these issues I could have held back the payments to the builder.
A year after the build was finished Assent BC raised a list of building regulation contraventions (most which were not raised at the time of construction or at all throughout the duration of the build). Many of these I am unable discharge without stripping my house back to the foundations to evidence.
Customer service is poor. They do not respond to emails or queries. I had unanswered queries (some in excess of 6 months). Please go elsewhere as this company will leave you at significant risk due to their incompetence.

Just found out they never filed the sign off of building control with the Council! Idiots. Now excuses that the inspection person is no longer working for them so they cancelled the account without our authorisation. Rip off attitude. Avoid. Don't trust them. Unhelpful. Expect us to sort out their low level of service. And wanted payment up front. Disgusting.
First Class Service
Staff at Assent Building Control have been very helpful and supportive throughout this process. I have no hesitation about recommending the company unreservedly.

Avoid. Lost licence before they completed our building regs. Photos after final inspection didn’t upload on their portal so they have walked away despite being paid to do the job.
No backup and they don’t care. I will take them to small claims court.

Assent allowed their license to lapse however they do have another one and the option was there to transfer all cancelled jobs onto the new license but someone in head office decided not to, only those jobs with outstanding fees were transferred over. Disgusting.
THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL
I have no words to describe this company after wasting our time and spending lots and lots of money on so many things they keep requesting for. Initial inspector visited our site 4 times as scheduled from October 2023 to July 2024. He said everything was ok anytime he came on site and had a final visit last year July. He said everything was fine so we thought final certificate would be issued shortly afterwards. I followed up after a week, only to be told the inspector and the surveyor have all left the business and therefore my project will be assigned to another inspector. This also took weeks to get a new inspector after persistently chasing them. When new inspector took over, no documentation had been completed, so he had to start all over again requesting for information. It's been 7 months since we finished our project and we've still not received a final completion certificate, but they've been refusing to issue and constantly telling us that he will revert it to the local authority. Everything that they've requested for, we've provided to them. We've been calling the inspector for days but there's been no answer. I would really really ask anybody to stay away from instructing this company as you will be miserable and lose a lot of money and time if you go with them.

The worst company
The worst company - do not use - please avoid at all costs. We have had similar issues to the review below, been waiting for our building cert and no one is getting back to us. We have filed a complaint through their usual pathways and they have not even got back to us within the timeframe. They said they should respond within 20 working days and we have had nothing. We have chased and they say they will get back to us again and again and nothing. Its an absolute joke. We do not know how to proceed.

In my entire 35 years of life this is the worst customer service I have ever come across. DO NOT USE this company.
I have been waiting nearly a year for a building reg certificate having paid £1,600 for the privilege of their services. When I call I am told there is nothing they can do. I cannot sell my house as a result. If i could leave a negative star review I would.
Terrible company. Terrible service. Literally rob you blind.

This company is the worst company i have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.
I would like to name names but i don't want my review taking down as people need to know how bad they are. Most of the people that work there aren't even technical. It's run by people who don't care.
I've had the same issue as everyone else seems to have had. There's no point in me going into it as i will receive a response saying 'sorry you've had a bad experience, please contact bla bla bla'
The Wakefield lot are the worst of the worst. I would like to know if the CEO actually knows how his staff behave. One person i spoke to actually said they were embarrassed to work for Assent. I'm embarrassed i paid them!!!
