Had building works done in 2018 to 19 and building work certificate still not signed off. Keep flogging me of with send ref no, which i was never given. Absolutely disgusting service, telling me to go to council and sort it out my self. They charged me enough money but a cowboy job. I wouldn't use these people again even with a Barge pole.
Hope they can their comupance, as 78%of people are 1 star rating reviews, I'm sure it would be 0 if options were there. Shame on you company director or CEO sitting behind a desk and doesn't have a clue what's going on in his offices. It's about time you get up and do some digging or start reading these reviews to give you an idea how sh## your co is. Unfortunately this is the honest truth. A nasty company - con artists, won’t reply and comply and are a shambles. Paid for the service in May 2023 and work was complete. My building regs still not signed off even tho I have complied with everything. I was requested to sent pics on the work even though the same inspector visited 4 times and didn’t leave any feedback notes after each visit. On the last visit I had to make sure I put in all fire doors with 3 hinges along the escape route which I completed and now the delaying tactics are starting. I have chased and chased and being ignored. The inspector has a very bad attention span and memory and using tactics even though I have complied and payed around £900.

SCAM! STAY AWAY

I can't fathom how this company is still operating. After taking full payment and responsibility for building control sign off they just disappear at the final visit. Multiple attempts to communicate with them are bounced around from person to person with the next having less of a clue than the previous. They even had the audacity to charge an extra £400 (which was paid) supposedly due to additional work they had to carry out. They only had to carry out this work as they had lost their records for previous site visits! It seems as if a number of people have been let down by this company's failure to deliver on their contractual obligations. Absolute shambles of a company, Enron was perhaps better managed than this joke.

Poor communication and no final certificate.
Like so may others on this site I was chasing for a final visit (albeit late as was overlooked) and then for final sign-off. Lots of phone calls being bounced from person to person, first complaint on their feedback email ignored. Re submitted on official paperwork (received acknowledgement and timescale), not met so further chasing eventually achieved a conclusion (no sign-off due to time frame). Apparently this is a legal hurdle they cannot overcome (just wish it hadn't taken 5 months and lots of chasing for them to tell me this). Do not use them or Occulus

The quote and payment is the most efficient part. then it goes downhill after they are paid. Visits are rushed and they are not documented properly. No reports are issued. Later when all is closed up they request info they missed on their inspections. oh and they have a good trick, lets wait till the end to give them a letter for all the things we should have checked and get out of having to sign off the job. There are no call backs presumably all staff have letf. NO ealing office and now the middlesex office.. its time to stop taking new clients on and taking then through this torture and just call it a day.. this is the case on several projects and the online feedback is now overwhelming evidence. No doubt some fluffy comment will follow up but there is no credibility left in this company anymore... I am sure I wont be the last to give honest and real reviews of what i can only describe as horrific customer service, no attention to detail and no accountability

Terrible, terrible company. Move on, use anyone else but Assent. I have been chasing a building completion certificate for close to a year now. The original Ealing office that I was dealing with stopped returning calls or emails. Subsequently found out the office had shut down with no notification. Cannot get anyone in Head Office to progress my case. Sent requested information to several people who confirm receipt then several weeks later request the same info. Made an official compliant which is supposed to be responded to in 20 working days - 40 working days later still no response. Aghhhhhhhhhh

Absolute scam, had final inspection in June and we were told everything was okay.

Chasing for months being told the final certificate was with QC. Find out today that they claimed they had asked for a certificate for cavity wall insulation (they haven’t, the project doesn’t have it).

Spoke to our inspector, turns out that they no longer hold a licence

Scam Company – Avoid at All Costs

Assent Building Control is an absolute scam. Since engaging with them in 2020, they have refused to share any signed site inspection records or any other documents. In fact, they have not provided a single piece of evidence for their work, which is outrageous for a supposedly professional building control company.

They have deliberately delayed the process by repeatedly demanding additional information and post-hoc work, dragging this ordeal out for years. After countless back-and-forths, they confirmed the work was satisfactory and agreed to issue the completion certificate, but only if I carry out a final piece of additional work costing nearly £6,000. I complied, only for them to then claim they no longer held a building control license. This reeks of deception and bad faith.

Now, as I try to salvage this disaster and obtain the documents necessary to submit to the local council, they won't even respond to my requests. Their lack of accountability and utter disregard for their obligations make it clear they are not a legitimate operation.

Avoid this fraudulent company at all costs. They will take your money, waste your time, and leave you stranded. They should be investigated and held accountable for their unethical practices.

Worst company ever! Do not deal with them. Their customer service is worst you can think of. They don't have manners neither they have any answer to questions you have. It's been a year and still waiting for my certificate. And they tell me they don't know when I will have it either.

The company decided to lapse the initial notice without giving me any warning in October 2024 right before the scheduled work was completed in November 2024 after several set backs in January 2024 causing delays.
Terrible communication. You’re better off going to the local authority than choosing Assent.

Assent BC has been truly atrocious. One of the worst companies that I have had the displeasure of losing money to. For a building project that started in February 2024, the fees (£1000 + VAT) were paid promptly and initial inspections were conducted on request from my builder without issue. But, in mid-September after we had provided all final documents like gas safety and declarations, things deteriorated massively as we sought their Final Certificate. This has been incredibly stressful as the lack of this document, for 3 months, has also put our insurance cover at risk.

The company claims that the original "office" dealing with this project "split off" from the company. Assent contacted us in October asking for evidence that we had already provided - clearly they have no centralised client file management system. Communication entirely failed - with dozens of our chasing emails and phone calls left unanswered. Assent was stubborn - simply dictating that pictures of pad foundations and floor build up, roof insulation - things long since covered over - should be provided. After scrambling to dig out photos from various builders' phones, as well as my own evidence and supply this to them via email, they then ignored us and didn't communicate again.

Unbelievably, after requesting and being supplied declarations in September, they emailed again in November asking for the same things!

The company is incredibly difficult. They were unresponsive, had no form of contact other than emailing a generic Admin team or calling a generic Admin number. The "Administators" seemed to have no clue on the issue, or at least were not honest about their situation.

Totally despicable.

Have been loving my time being employed by Assent Building Control.

So grateful they took me on in such a senior position despite the fact I have minimal experience or knowledge of the industry. My three weeks as an asbestos surveyor make me excellent at this job.

Since joining I have successfully forced out all of the deadwood from the company. They were holding us back with their high level technical, regulatory and business knowledge.

My four promotions since I’ve been here are evidence that hard work pays off and is really nothing to do with the fact there’s simply nobody left.

Looking forward to jumping ship soon after I’ve run the company into the ground. My linked in shows I never stay anywhere for long and end up having to leave because nobody likes me.

85 employees have left the company this year alone since I started. I can count HQ surveyors on one hand now. I’ve done such a good job. The wage bill has been slashed and customer satisfaction is at an all time high! Nearly 2/5 on trustpilot now!

Anyway got to go, I’ve got a few hundred virtually complete projects to go and cancel x

Had the same issue as everyone else. They had all the information to get sign off completed and then i got an email as of the 1st of October saying they can no longer deal with my application and to speak to my local council to get sign off finished. Now i have to pay over £700 to get signed off when this should of been completed by Assent. Everyone should stay far away from this company. I will be writing to the Building Safety Regulators to hold Assent accountable for this. And if nothing is resolved Small claims Court.

Avoid at all costs. Total lack of integrity. They have full fee for building control services and have since merged with a Oculus Building Consultancy and LB Building Control Ltd. Since the merger and change in Building Control regulations they have abandoned all existing clients without telling us and have handed us over to Local Authority Building control where we have to make a new application and pay another fee.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If I could give a minus number for a review i would. This company was dealing with my building regs. The guy came out as he should to sign the stages off. When it came to completion I was informed he’d left the company and it turned out that no information had been passed back to the office. I was eventually told they were cancelling the contract and they also informed the council of this and I then got a notice from the council for carrying out unauthorised works. Long story short, I then had to pay the council to do the regs and are currently in the process of ripping my house to bits at great expense to satisfy the council that everything has been done correctly. This is involving digging down to the foundations, exposing internal brick work to prove ties have been used and the cavity and insulation is correct, taking plaster off rsj’s and getting a structural report done on said steel work and bearings. All in all, a massive nightmare and I’ll be glad when it’s over and i can sleep again! This has been going on since 2021 I hasten to add! Appalling company!! I would love to get together with other people who have had similar experiences and take legal action against them as a group.
