Great service!

Terrible service just cancelled the licence with no notice what so ever building inspector came out for final inspection start of September never mentioned that the licence was going to be cancelled trading standards have been contacted see is anything comes from it

Went with Assent back in 2021 for a self build extension and at first had no issues. Come to property for visits and then when it comes to getting the completion certificate and finalizing all communication stops.

Have been chasing since end of 2023 to get a completion certificate. Would always request information which I provided then in Jan 2024 communication stopped. After chasing for a long time got an email in October 2024 saying they after not licensed any more to submit to council.

All I am asking for now is the inspection report so I can submit the paperwork myself. Even that is proving very difficult as there is now zero communication and no one reply’s to call, text or email. Very very poor

It looks like they are not trading anymore. We have finished our project and they do not give our certificate as we have not contacted them before 1st October. Nobody told me that there is a deadline. The same as Gary Eng , we will have to take them to court. They don't refund. They are stealing people's money .
I have contacted Masood, an other victim of Assent and I hope other victims will also see it so we can all start together a formal complaint.

I paid in full £960 dec 2023 ! for a building Inspector, they cancelled the job , no refund, I've emailed and called , in November 2024 , I'm told Jack in finance is the only one who can refund me, and he refuses to answer my calls or emails. Appalling service .no stars and avoid at all cost .

I agree with all the other zero reviews. This company has not signed off my building control, due to not having a licences. They do not care about their customers and just want your money!!

If I could give zero I would! As everyone else has explained below, I am also waiting for a final completion certificate! Sent surveyors around, then it's just been excuse after excuse....how hard is it to finalise a job and provide a certificate. I have contacted trading standards. How on earth this company is permitted to carry on trading is beyond belief. They should be shut down with immediate effect

Update: I see they have responded with their usual pathetic message regarding how they will look into it by sending to their complaints email address.....yep done that and still in the same place! Absolutely pathetic....Should be struck off, it's just a matter of time!

AWFUL company!
We appointed assent in 2021 for our self build. Was in touch with the our building inspector in sept this year, had all our inspections, the last one being June 2024. All was outstanding was 1 document to send !

We received an email 24th October 2024 stating they can no longer function as a building inspector as of 01/10/24 and as a result we have to approach the local authority for our BC sign off.

We had no notice prior to this ‘cancellation’ email, and to add to this I had many many emails with them over this year, ie arranging inspection, checking our documents and sending new documents throughout the process. Again, nothing had been communicated to us about their licence!

When I called them, they said our case was closed and they can not open it.
They mentioned they transferred some projects to their sister companies oculous and LB. When I asked the head office what is the criteria to transfer they said they didn’t transfer some due to
-unpaid invoice
-no recent inspections
-structural or fire issues

They tried to say that they seized their involvement with us was due to ‘our inspection being out of date ‘- (mentioning our last inspection was November 2023)
This was incorrect, we had an inspection with a new inspector in June 2024 and there is clear evidence of this emails , and the inspection notes! I contacted the building inspector that completed the visit, he has emailed me his notes and picture evidence for my record as I didn’t have this in an official document.
Assent are stating they have no evidence of this and that they only have the ones piror.

Asked for a refund - have been refused - we paid 2500 for this service- not to add the stress they have caused us!

Please can all people unite together because I will most certainly be taking legal action and have approached building regulations litigation solicitors.

What they have done is UNLAWFUL and they will not get away with this !!!

I have contacted masood who commented also in the comments and we are uniting together to take legal action !

Really good experience with Assent - staff were helpful and project signed off in a timely manner. Would highly highly recommend.

I paid this company £900 and they have never completed the job on my house. I had multiple inspections during which I was told everything was fine and I have been awaiting my final certificate. I chased this company to see what was going on to find out my building inspector didn’t even bother to complete any paperwork at all and they said they had cancelled my job as they hadn’t renewed their license.
I have now asked for a refund and they just keep ignoring my emails and passing me on to different people, they have taken my money and it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting a refund for the work that they haven’t completed. please don’t use this company as they can just take your money and ignore you, don’t be a fool like me I now can’t afford to pay for another building inspector because of this.

Been waiting on completion for over 2 years backwards and forwards with inspector and now all of a sudden we have been told they can't give us the completion certificate and no refund will be given! To go else where and pay again.
Work had been completed well before they lost licence and we was on the understanding that it had been done and just needed sending.
What has losing your licence got to do with giving a refund so we can go to another company/LA which is what you are advising to do but then ending your email with NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN no explanation why either

We used this company through our supplier who fit our recent extension,They arrived as planned, no issue what’s so ever and signed off our building regs on time. Certificate arrived shortly afterwards Did not experience anything like the negative reviews so don’t be put off.

This company/ organisation, and i use the term as loosely as possible, should not be trusted or allowed to perform any work related to building control; even under the new regime introduced by legislation. I requested a final inspection prior to legislation change; and was duly informed they could not execute and i would have to revert to-local authority. Having reminded all fees had been paid. Moreover, they had lost all technical submissions, had no record of inspections effected. Despite re-submitting, they deliberately waited until new legislation came into effect; and informed me at the 11th hour they were cancelling. This is an unprofessional company, retains poor records, incapable of maintaining due diligence for projects, poorly organised, has no understanding of legislation and their obligations. I would seriously consider you vet this company, and its subsidiaries, thoroughly, before parting with your monies for building related services. I am in the process of seeking legal redress.

Avoid this company. Be careful with them record all your calls as they lie and hide the truth and mince word.

The company did not come before 1-10-2024 to sign off my new built house which was completed in September 2024 without giving any notice or reason they says now that their licence is cancelled.
They’ve rebranded as Assent Building Compliance rather than Control on 16-09-2024 in company house with same company number but the good news is that company is not liquidated or bankrupt they are liable for compensation / claims / damages and refund of fee as they failed to keep up with the contract.
I have demanded from them their liability insurance to start my claim and cover my losses and refund of fees.
I hope nobody falls for their scams. The company refused to accept their mistake and today after 10 days writing email to their directors, feedback, technical and admin team and sending the proof of communication until 20-09-2024 they acknowledge their mistake and taken my formal complaints and I am now escalating to the regulator about Assent Building Compliance, Oculus building compliance and LB Buiding Control. I received email from Assent Building Control in 2022 that said they will transferring my files internally in any of these 2 company which is part of Assent group and have got licence to issue certificates which they did not do it and Telling in October 2024: “Projects were reviewed on a case-by-case basis and on that occasion a decision was made to not transfer the project at that time.” The Building Inspector Mr Navtej Singh was in constant touch with me until 20-09-2024 He also kept us in dark and never revealed the companies intentions nor came for final survey to issue the final building compliance certificate.

Complaints Co‑ordinator is telling me that you can take another private building control to sign off my completed project and my question to her was since how long are you in this trade? As they have 2 active companies with licences and she was suggesting me to hire someone else they think people are fools.
I will be setting up a page for legal action against this company anyone interested please contact me by phone or email given above. As we can put all the relevant evidence together.
I have been informed by Navtej Singh (Building Inspector) that 180 cases are from Navtej’s office Assent Redbridge Office (East London) When I went to Navtej’s registered office last week but it’s just a virtual office for Assent Building Control (Compliance).
I informed Assent I will make sure I run a campaign and get all the affected clients of Assent who were not informed or promised their files will be transferred but this was not honoured, to take joint legal action.
I spoke with my local authority Waltham Forest Council they said my project is not cancelled yet. If they cancel, the local authority will send the cancellation notice to all client like all of us and then will be more big problem for Assent Building Control (Compliance).

I urge anybody to read the reviews on this company before making any decision. The company cancelled 2 of my projects without any notice or reason. They’ve now closed the company and rebranded as Assent Building Compliance rather than Control. I hope nobody falls for their scams. The company refuse to acknowledge my complaints so I am now escalating to the regulator about Assent & Oculus. Keep away!!!

Avoid this company at all costs !
They have cancelled our new build house inspections and not even had the decency to tell us.
Building inspector himself was great and told us he had no idea what was going on either !
It should be illegal what they are doing !
Taken our money and abandoned us.
They don’t even deserve one star but no other option

Apparently as they didn't sign off before 1st Oct they cancelled my project!
No refund.
No further communication.
Been told to reach my local council which they should’ve contacted but haven’t and STILL waiting to receive all my files from them so I can go somewhere else as I now need to restart my whole project and pay another £1000+ to get the room usable and signed off.

Avoid the stress and headache, plus baby on the way - GO ELSEWHERE!!!
