Positive, engaged and encouraging. An inspector who who's his stuff and is there to help and direct. We had a few issues on this job that could have been made very difficult but our inspector helped us find appropriate solutions without delaying the job.

Absolutely fantastic customer service provided and the team supported us through the process. Would recommend Assent for future works

Assent Building Control (and Oculus Building Consultancy Ltd) have done nothing since the Ealing office closed.

Multiple times I have requested inspections and get no response. I’ve requested reports on my previous inspections and again I got no response. I asked who is dealing with my project and their contact details and again I get no response.

It is shocking the way I and many others are currently being treated. They were paid in full in advance of my project starting and are now holding up my build and costing me more money.

We paid for a full building control and our building work is being held up as this company has not come out to do an inspection. We have emailed them, called them, and even raised a formal complain but to no avail. They have closed there Ealing office without warning. I even tried to send an email to the director and CEO but again no response. I'm currently trying to find any solution so we can move on from this horrid company and get work on site started again and an inspection carried out. Note I have also emailed the company on the email suggested with no response

Avoid this firm, Assent BC, like the plague. Oversaw sub-standard work that failed to meet building control or planning permissions, and failed to take any responsibility for not warning me, or the rogue builders, that the work was inadequate. As a result, I have lost a lot of money, when the local authority stepped in. Assent refused to take any responsibility for shortcomings, and it transpires, had been working on other projects with the same rogue builders so should have known a lot better. They also failed denied knowledge of the planning permissions despite signing off a letter to the council about the planning permission in my name, without permission.

AVOID THIS BUNCH OF COWBOYS!
We paid up front and in full for building control for our loft conversion. Throughout Assent was slow, unresponsive and difficult. Now that the project is complete, we need final inspection and sign off on the certificate. Only, Assent has closed the office handling our case, and there is no way to get a response. Emails go unanswered and call handlers, when they pick up, stonewall and give 'I dont know' replies. Utterly useless.
I suspect malpractice and hope that a regulator will take a deep dive into Assent and its working practices.

Assent BC has been a superb company to provide all the building controls works for my building project. Everything was handled by Jamie and explained in detail. Communication from Jamie was excellent. I was kept well informed on all progress during the build. Completion paperwork was provided promptly once the work was completed. I would not hesitate to recommend Assent BC. An excellent reputable company.

I appointed this company for my renovation in London, getting a quotation was smooth and simple, but that’s where the good review stops. Suddenly the office I went through closed with no warning and now I cannot get through to anyone as it no longer exists on the website. The head office don’t answer calls and when they do, they’re rude and abrupt and I cannot get any answers leaving me completely stuck. They refuse to provide dates for inspections and say there are current weeks of delays which isn’t helpful! It is impossible to speak to anyone or get a site visit. Don’t make the same mistake I did thinking a company like this would be able to provide half decent service. I am completely out of pocket and my project has come to a standstill, it really is a desperate situation. I chose this company because I thought it would be a hassle free process but As a single woman managing a big project alone this is the last thing I need. I wouldn’t want anybody else to be in the position so Stay away!

AVOID USING THIS COMPANY! I have paid in full and then they cancelled the project two weeks later!! No notification and taken my money! They have emailed back advising cannot locate my name even though invoice has been produced!

Do not under any circumstance go near this company. The work in my house has come to a halt because they are not responding to mine or my builder’s requests for an inspection or giving us any information on when they will fulfil their contractual obligation to me. My house has no back wall on it and thus the security of me and my children is heavily compromised. I don’t know how long this will go on for and I have emailed every address associated with Assent. Treating their customers with contempt is an understatement. I am appalled. I am in a desperate situation with no end in sight and they don’t care. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

One star is too many to give this company. In the middle of our works they have just stopped coming to inspect. I have called and called and emailed and emailed and finally received a response telling me to email an address that hasn’t responded to me already. Their local office has closed down and they haven’t made any provision for the ongoing jobs they have been paid for in full. I am living on a building site with a massive hole in my garden. I have children and animals living with me and this is dangerous. That hole should have been inspected as soon as it was completed and filled in the next day. Instead it is gathering water and this is costing us time and money. My builder cannot continue so effectively we are being beheld to ransom by Assent building control. What kind of company operates like this? Where is the customer service ? Where is the professionalism? I have read responses on here saying to email various email addresses. I have emailed them all to no avail. I do not want some generic response. I want my work to be inspected and to get the certificate for the works already approved. Do not go near this company. Save yourselves an even bigger headache than the build itself!

So you have time to respond on here but no time to respond to my emails and let me know what you are doing to resolve my case. If it has been escalated then you must be on a go slow. Another generic response but nothing actually getting done. Gross behaviour. Unprofessional. Negligent. Contemptuous.

I chose assent to provide building control throughout my build project in 2022/23. They made the process stress free and gave me guidance and advice when necessary. Scott was easy to get hold of via phone and was flexible with inspection dates to suit my schedule. I will be using them again for future projects.

We used Assent for our new kitchen extension which was not straight forward for our builder who did an excellent job, Assent came out quickly to access the work gave positive instructions when needed to the builder or to us, they made the process easy and straight forward, would highly recommend to family and friends

We entrusted and engaged Assent in May 2023 for our loft extension, after they closed their Ealing Office in the first week of July 2024, I have tried to contact them through various email address and head office telephone no one picks up.

I have paid for their service in full and they have failed to meet their obligations at final inspection stage and issue my building cert.

Completely unprofessional and unscrupulous behaviour and approach in leaving their client in a state where their property after spending hundreds of thousands of £s could become worthless.

I am very disappointed for large UK company to behave in this manner.

We had all our inspections throughout the build, including the final one on 2 July, but now it turns out that the entire Ealing office has left the company (!) and all head office will do is give me an email address. Which no one replies to. So no one can tell me if I will be issued with a building control certificate or not. I have paid this company in full, and they are not providing the service they contracted to. As simple as that unfortunately.

Kate Morement is extremely rude. All Five star reviews are definitely from their staff. This company is not even capable of getting one star.
Avoid at all costs. They are not responding to any email or calls. We have to pause our work because of no site visit is arranged. They have turn our simple project stressful
Save your money and go elsewhere.

Have been waiting on a completion certificate since April, staff have left, their London office has supposedly been closed and no one knows what is going on. We keep getting to told to wait and someone will come back to us but nobody ever does, there is no answer to the phones and mailbox is full.

Absolutely useless company.

I am aware of the number of less than favourable reviews, so it is fair to redress the balance and report we have had a good experience with Assent who have just issued the Completion Certificate for our extension.

Ashley Baczynski managed the project and has been polite and professional. Turning up in a timely manner to inspect the build at various stages and liaising with the builders.

It has perhaps taken a little longer than I expected to get the Completion Certificate, but once we made Ashley aware he identified the issue and got the certificate sent over to us promptly.

A good experience overall, and should we ever undertake another project, we certainly want Ashley as part of the team

06 April 2024: Assent fails to meet deadline for registration as a Building Control Approver
26 June 2024: a disciplinary panel for the CIC Approved Inspectors Register (CICAIR) said that Assent had failed to comply with two clauses of its code of conduct.
