One star is even too many for this company. Avoid at all costs. They are slow, don't read emails properly and make huge mistakes. We will never ever be using Assent again and really hope no one else uses them because the stress, extra work and headaches they have caused over one small and simple project was massive. I experienced rudeness, even though all the issues were their fault, inefficiency, even thought I spelt out every mistake they made and gave them ways to rectify them, yet they still managed to mess up numerous times.
If you want to have a stress free project and be sane of mind by the end of it then DO NOT use Assent Building Control.

AssentBC was one of many stakeholders that helped to make our building extension project run smoothly. They met every obligation without fuss, their people were very helpful and friendly, and they were excellent at keeping to the schedule and agreed appointments. I have only positive things to say about AssentBC. Special thanks to Emily Wong for the site visits.

Please please do your homework on this company, they will take your money and then cancel your building regs so they don't have to do any work. FREE MONEY FOR THEM!!!

What happens when assent cancel your B C the council will then send you a letter saying you have built your build with no B C and they are going to take enforcement useless you pay them twice as much money for them to do retrospective B C. (Basically you have to do it all over again now but with the council).

Assent building control get out of jail card is that they will always say there is something you haven't sent them even when you have sent them everything. But you won't get a warning to say they need anything they will just cancel your B C out of the blue.

Look at there other reviews they do it to everyone.... don't be another victim like me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I had the misfortune to be recommended Assent Building Control in Particular Harvir from the Leicester office recommended to me by my very good Architect. All seemed well in the beginning. We had one big project the demolition of a single storey kitchen the construction of a 2 storey extension, a loft conversion, then subsequently a small utility room extension. For this we have paid 3 times for 3 projects. The initial notice was agreed between the architect and building control.
Once the work began, they were not particularly good with time management (cancelling or changing times and dates with little notice). They seemed quite knowledgeable for the most part as a lay person. (My builder didn’t agree he viewed the inspector as having a chip on his shoulder with over the top demands and requests that didn’t seem logical.)
He was very slow to respond to questions then slowly over the project he answered his phone less and less.
Covid hit the builder and project stopped for several months.
We had the house almost finished to his requirements then the unreasonable demands happened( smoke alarm in every liveable room.) 9 in a 4 bedroom terrace. We did this as wanted the project finished.
Finally received the certificate from them with no mention of the second storey extension. Queried it and their reply from the office somewhere in London (as Harvir refused to answer the phone) was that they never quoted, check or inspected the room, even though I provided them proof of the communication between myself and Harvir and the structural engineer that he had inspected the room on several occasions asking for changes to be done.

The final reply from the office assistant was nothing can be done and I must revert back to the local council building control.

Overall a really bad experience with the company leaving me with a big headache and more cost.

Stay away from this company. Our project manager left the company and they say somebody else will be assigned but they are not responding to any emails, not calling me back fro last 3 weeks. They got my money and that's it.

Absolute shambles’s done a warm deck roof sent tulish diagrams of a warm deck roof stating it needed to be 4 layers including vapour barrier which he decline said no need anyway the ckiemt complained and the blame was pushed onto the contractor when we was giving clear instructions by tulish how to do the roof if you want a cheap and untrustworthy job hire them

absolute scam of a company, one of the managers was super shady and making snide comments as his comeback, even though we both new they had made a grave error in inspecting my home.

Please do not use use if you wish to lose value on your home.

Avoid this company. I will now have to take legal action against them for their incompetence. I was stuck with them by our loft builder who is now insolvent. Surprise, surprise. Arrange several times for someone to come for the final inspection. No one arrived. Kept sending me an invoice that was meant for the building that contracted them and then cancelled the Building reg application. Given all the other complaints here, I can't help by wonder how they remain in business.

This service experience was beyond disappointing. The indifference shown by head office was simply unacceptable. Initially, the Project Manager who was assigned to my project cited distance as a reason for discontinuing visits, leaving me to deal with constant replacements. Despite persistent efforts to get someone on site, I faced repeated setbacks. Even when a third person was finally arranged, they were unresponsive. To compound matters, communication with the original Project Manager was virtually none existent. Despite being "assigned", calls, texts, and emails went unanswered except when it came to payment reminders. It's a frustrating cycle of promises without action. Even after reaching out to the team, the situation remained unchanged. Furthermore, the second inspector failed to pass on document to the next, yet instead of addressing their problems, they simply ignore you. In my two decades in property development, I've never encountered such incompetence. MY ADVICE: AVOID THIS SERVICE AT ALL COSTS.

Following conversion works that were approved by Assent Building Control in 2020, it was confirmed by the NFRC and other reputable Roofers from Checkatrade in January 2024 that the roof was not professionally laid and that there were several issues with the roof. I contacted Assent Building Control in early January and I have been informed that there are no guarantees or Warranties on the building and that builders are not mandated to produce them. They (Harvir Kalsi) confirmed in early March 2024 that they 'would' confirm the insulation thickness of the roof, unfortunately despite numerous calls to Harvir and head office (including confirmation that my emails had been forwarded to Lee Ibbotson and Miguel), no information was forthcoming. This morning when I rang head office, explaining that I had received no response in writing confirming insulation thickness (and other information) in my email, Donna at Wakefield explained that Miguel said to inform me that their 'stance' still stands. When I asked to clarify 'stance' (as no one has contacted me and the insulation thickness and clarification on has not been confirmed in writing), Donna said that was the only information she had and that I should email an Assent Building Control 'Feedback' address. Unfortunately, my Conveyancer was unable to get any further information from the previous property owners except the Building Control certificate. Dear Trustpilot readers, please heed the complaints against this company, I would 'not' recommend using them.

Signed off 2 new homes without inspections and with numerous 'major' faults in the building and major safety issues which has cost tens of thousands of pounds to correct and many years of stress.

Recorded within our flat, an Assent inspector is not only found to be making disturbing misogynistic comments but also thoughtlessly photographing my wife's belongings.

Despite the head of risk and compliance assuring me over the phone, the reality unfolded quite differently. After an agonizing wait of almost two months, the response provided was nothing more than a recycled corporate platitude that did little to address my genuine concerns.

I wholeheartedly caution all women to steer clear of Assent, given the troubling attitudes exhibited in our video by their representative. Alternatively, I strongly recommend insisting on the presence of a secondary female chaperone during interactions with them.

Their reply to this comment is false, as the most recent email from their Head of Risk and compliance stated the felt the "matter was closed" so how can it still be under investigation? This negative review will remain until they act, rather than their behaviour up until present which is all smoke screens.

Untrustworthy, Toxic and Awful individuals, especially Harvir Kalsi and his Ealing admin team! To keep it short avoid like the plague!

Avoid avoid avoid.

We were looped in with Assent by our builders to deal with our loft conversion.

It has been a ridiculously over-complicated and long-winded process involving chasing multiple people continually for answers, changing goal posts and contradictory/confusing replies. There has to be a better company to use and I would definitely look elsewhere!

Thank goodness I requested an extension to the 6 weeks this process was supposed to take – it actually took 15 weeks and involved 23 emails from me (providing the info requested and chasing), 14 emails from Assent’s admin team and 0 emails from the surveyor (an apprentice) assigned to my work.

I uploaded documents to their system and they were apparently lost, mislabelled, misfiled, not recorded, not looked at. Assent didn’t update the record system I uploaded to, so I had no way of knowing which documents or photos (if any) they had looked at.

Two members of the admin team (in Milton Keynes) appeared to be doing their best but the people who needed to be making decisions instead created a stressful shambles, ended only when my builder got involved.

Assent are incompetent and do not care. Avoid.

This company are absolutely terrible. Poor administration & awful communication lead to a really poor all round experience. We used them for an extension after a builder recommended them. They contradicted themselves so many times, even the builder was embarrassed for them and said he would never recommend them again. They are cowboys and cause far more stress than is needed. Look elsewhere, this company should not still be operating, they are playing with people's homes and livelihoods with poor attention to detail and terrible communication skills. Our building control officer may as well call it a day, a little napoleon type, just with no memory or ability to manage his paperwork.

We went with Assent BC at the recommendation of our builders. Response to emails and phone calls has always non-existant to poor.

Out building was complete in Aug 2023. Assent came to inspect in October and all relevant paperwork was submitted. We were told 1-2 weeks for the certificate.....well, 12 weeks on, multiple emails and phone calls made to ask where the certificate is...keep getting the answer, "I'll be with you in a day or two"

We are now thinking about legal means to get what we have paid for.

If I could give a -5 I would!! Use this company at your own peril. Had building work done in 2020. Paid this mob to do the building control for us. For the last 3.5 years have been trying to get our certificate. Had their inspector visit multiple times during build plus provided all relevant info and pictures. After chasing for our certificate and not getting any response for months on end we were told the inspector left the company and our file was totally empty. Just been informed we now have to go through our local council as they can not do what we paid them for. To top it all off, we’ve been told they will only refund our money if we agree to not take legal action as we may now incur costs to prove the build was done to specification. I can’t believe companies like this are allowed to operate!!

All the people I spoke to in the Surrey office were super helpful and always very polite. It was a very stressful time, however Surrey were kind and provided advice on dealing with the situation. Highly recommend. Excellent service.
