Self pick-up and drop off, so you need to be able to call them once at the pick up location for keybox code. Something that I would have liked to know before. Otherwise, super reactive and helpful contact via WhatsApp during the trip 👍
Regarding the vehicule, it is ok, could have been better for the price. We didn't have any issues, just some noises with the brakes. It is equipped with the strictly minimum, like too basics for a van life experience. We had to buy some stuff like a Bluetooth device with car-USB charger and there were no curtains. Also, it could be a bit more ergonomic. I think the position of the sink could be facing the trunk. But we made it out and had a super cool experience through NZ.

Very helpful staff, Kriti has been great! We weren’t sure we would be able to get a van booked in time for our upcoming trip but Kriti has been going the extra mile to help us! With card issues on our end and a ten hour time difference, she’s been more than accommodating to make sure we got our booking confirmed. Thank you Kriti!
Fantastic staff and service. Brilliant van. Loved it. Only dropped 1 star due to usb not strong enough to charge a phone and could not connect Bluetooth to it, and be aware the depo is a long long way out of Melbourne CBD. Other than that, great stuff, thankyou very much.
Great easy to use company & brilliant customer service. Penny is an awesome representative that I personally dealt with. I’ll return again.
Great experience with our van and lovely customer service at the Brisbane Depot. We did the upgrade cover and it was totally worthy 🙌. Thank you Campervan Village

We had the best 5 days with this excellent camper van driving up to the Daintree Rainforest! It was better than we expected and there was a lot of flexibility in giving the car back at the end of it. Has everything you need. Very comfortable sleeping!

Disgusting!!!
It’s been over two weeks and I haven’t received my deposit back!
And now… I just received an EMAIL saying I got charged 77dollars, no explanations given.
————-
My partner and I returned the van in perfect conditions after a week travelling Queensland. When returning the car, we made sure everything was perfect, the car was clean and the guy was there to inspect the car. Everything was in perfect order - I have even video proof, which I always take as you never know with rental companies.
…And yet, they keep my deposit and charge me even 77 dollars on top. Absolutely unacceptable.
I highly recommend anyone who is interested in renting a camper in Australia to find any other company, this one is just the worst.
We used Indie campers before, highly recommended!

My partner and I booked the Johnny Feelgood Campervan in Tasmania for 10 days in peak season. We got a good service at our pickup location in Hobart by Aaron and liked the general setup of the van. We enjoyed the new interior such as included gadgets, the setup in the back of the van and the storage.
We arranged a late pickup of the van, but by the time we arrived at the location in Hobart, where we flew into from Cairns, we hadn’t received any email or any other form of information with directions on where to find the keys to get into the van. Luckily, Aaron, the local mechanic was able to help us out, otherwise we would have not been able to get into the car due to the unreliability of campervan village. With no other alternative to sleep at, we would have sat on the streets for the first night, which is completely unacceptable.
The next issue came with the driving of the car itself. The track was extremely lopsided to the left, which made us return to the pickup location immediately due to immense safety concerns. We called Aaron again, who told us it should be fine and that he could take a look at the car later, but we did not have the time in our travel plans to stick around Hobart for too long. Other than that, the car did not feel like it was driven only 80.000 km so far, but instead as if it was much older and probably damaged in the past looking at the unaligned tires. This has to be our biggest concern, because when renting a vehicle, it must not feel unsafe to drive!
Another safety concern was the very visible hole at the bottom of the car (as you can see in the attached photos). Not only did it feel extremely sketchy, it also let the cold and moisture into the van during the nights.
Luckily, we received warm bedsheets, but I have to say paying over $120 for Kmart products does also not feel very fair.
In terms of other interior items of the van and what we have seen from other rental companies in comparison, there was a lack of quality. Curtains at the front window were missing, the windshield wipers worked very poorly and only smudged the glass, the car had a very high fuel consumption, the navigation system was outdated and almost unusable since it was all written in Japanese, the GPS did not work, the camera did not work, it was not possible to listen to music and the redone buttons could not be read in the dark.
Luckily the solar system of the car worked, even though the attachment of the panel with some sort of glue looked kind of rough and the shower hose was leaky during the whole trip.
In terms of service I would have also expected something better. There was an unexpected cost of Mastercard surcharge not pointed out in the booking process. Mastercard was the only possible payment option, so what else should I’ve been paying with? In the very last step of the checkout a 1.75% merchant fee was added, which summed up to almost $60.
The last complaint is about the van drop off. We requested a late checkout, but were told to pay a fee of $100. We decided to stick to the regular dropoff time, but were surprised when the lady at the office told us checkout is as simple as returning the keys and go. They did not even have to properly check the van. Again we felt scammed by being told to pay $100 for a 5 min dropoff.
In summary, the van had some very good features and friendly service in Hobart by Aaron. But unfortunately, we are very disappointed in the service and unfulfilled promises by the company about the camper and rental. The value for money did not meet our expectations. Since I paid over $3.400 I would have anticipated much more for my money. The price with this amount of issues can also not be justified with the rental taking place during peak season.
I got in touch with the campervan village team, but the communication went poorly and it took weeks for them to reply to my complaints. We also have not found a solution, no discount, no apology. Therefore I had to give this very detailed review, because I do not want young travelers to have their trip negatively impacted by an unprofessional agency.

Awesome communications pre trip. We ended up with a brand new ute from Adelaide to Alice Springs. Agent explained how everything worked on pick up in detail. Nothing seemed to be a problem when I emailed several questions about our trip itinerary. We were sad to drop the ute off in Alice Springs at the end of our holiday. Refundable deposited was back in our bank within two weeks of the trip with no pressure from us. Will without a doubt book through Campervan Village in the future.

Campervan village was a pleasure to work with for the entirety of my rental from the very start to the end. The alternator in the van exuded up expiring in a rural remote location and after a brief explanation of the situation, without hesitation or further question they approved the repair with out any hassle to my self. From start to finish, they were communicative, responded punctually to any email or query and were friendly in the process. I cannot recommend their service enough.

The rental went smoothly with Campervan Village.
They have been very efficient and clear to answer any questions I had prior, during and after the rental.
The van we had was the Johnny Feelgood and we definetely felt good travelling from Tasmania to the Great ocean road and the Grampians with it.
Easy to drive and confortable, the van has everything you need to camp around, we travel for more 1300km during 7days and we had a blast.
I would definetely recommend to travel with this van and company.
In pleasure to be back on the road with one of your vehicle for another time!

The actual trip was great, despite the van not being in the best condition however this review is solely based on the bond deposit which took 1 month+ to be 'released' and ended up costing us ~$400NZD extra (after confirming van returned in perfect condition for a full refund).
We finished our rental on 7th March, on 8th April I sent a fourth follow up email to ask when I'd receive my $5000NZD refund. The refund was returned officially on 9th April, but unfortunately due to exchange rates, additional fees and other unknown factors we've ended up $200NZD overcharged on the initial transaction and $200NZD under-refunded on the return transaction so approx $400NZD out of pocket. If you're booking with campervan village from abroad, expect your costs to rise by approx. 30% because of this.
Wouldn't book through these guys again, communication and timelines have been poor.

Complaints:
1. Company didn't coordinate with person to meet us to pick up our rental and we waited in the 40° Exmouth heat for over a half hour for someone to arrive. It took three phone calls before anyone showed up. In one call we were promised they would call back right away and they never did.
2. Van did not appear cleaned, old water still in the jug, slimy mold on the hose (which would fall off the pump if jostled because it was secured with duct tape), rust and debris in the sink.
3. Air conditioning could not keep up with the weather and we'd sweat in the van.
4. "Mattress" is 3 old, degraded, vinyl coated school gymnasium pads that provided hardly any cushion and no breathability on top of the hard wooden platform in the back.
5. Van had <1/4 tank of gas when we picked it up.
6. Stereo did not have Bluetooth, modern connections, unusable to play our music. Has a USB but prompted download of app that's no longer supported.
7. Rear/side windows have no mesh screening to remain open without letting in the bountiful WA flies.
8. Cooler is old and struggled to hold ice for any useful amount of time.
9. Overall van was dirty, old candy found under seats and around floor.
10. The storage space for luggage too small. Our standard suitcases did not fit in the space under the sleeping platform and we had to keep our luggage outside the van when we slept. No space in the front seats because they must be pushed all the way forward to extend the platform for the bed.
Positive:
1. Mechanically the van ran well. Impressive for 247,000 km on a 2003(?) Toyota minivan.
2. We were able to pick up in Exmouth and drop in Perth.
Overall, due to the negatives noted above, this van was not a feasible means for sleeping. It was so uncomfortable, grimy and ill equipped for the area that we ended up changing our road trip significantly, paying for hotels, and essentially driving around an old, fuel inefficient, beat up rental car that rattled with loosely-stored pots, pans, cutlery and dishware that couldn't be drowned out because there was no music.
It seems like the company invested in their fleet a couple decades ago and, at least with this van, hasn't invested in modernizing or improving it in any meaningful way. I don't recommend anyone use this company. We saw many much nicer rental vans in the caravan parks and looked at them longingly. And all this for $250 USD ($370 AUD) per day. Go elsewhere.

AWFUL COMPANY! cant say a good word about the company, we collect the car and was filthy, had dirt, fingernails, blonde hair (we have brown hair), used ear bud cleaners, crisps and WORST OF ALL AN ANT INFESTATION all around the car! We spent our first two days of our three week trip cleaning the car making it liveable the water turned black because of how dirty it was! and the staff are rubbish! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Stay away from this company… they left to young girls from the Netherlands stranded on a highway in southwest wa after the camper van hired from these guys caught fire while driving and then exploded on side of highway girls escaping in time but lost everything in fire. The company refused calls refused to put girls in hotel for night and refused them another car and/ or a refund for the outstanding hire. They bullied them and intimidated the young girls demanding more money for another camper. We have photos and videos of the event and helped the girls during and after the scary event.. I urge people to stay away from them they are dodgy unsafe and unreliable company and people.
In response to the companies reply the breach of contract that is yet to be determined as the sand track is not the beach and salt doesn’t cause a car to blow up suddenly. We would be interested in how you are investigating the fire as the girls have had no information or communication from yourselves. They paid extensive insurance with your company and have been left with no help from yourselves or agent. I was not the customer but I was the person communicating with both Amanda and the manager at the company both on-site and after and you were all abrupt and unhelpful with the situation. I have also been helping the girls with the appropriate authorities in order to help them. A number of issues have come to light in the amount of fuel being used to the number of kms they were travelling from pick up of vehicle to time of fire. In all the correct authorities are now involved to help these girls retrieve compensation for lost belongings, expenses incurred etc. The media and tourism minister also have been informed and are investigating. It has been disgusting behaviour from your company and I hate to think , had they not survived or been badly burnt or injured in fire what you would have done then.Thank goodness for our great local community supporting them as you have done nothing. I still urge everyone to stay away from this company and hopefully we will be able to have them shut down or made to have the vehicles and business brought to higher standards for safety.

TERRIBLE COMPANY
spent 4000 dollars on a car for 3 weeks and it’s covered in ants which is our fault apparently. It looks like the car has been crashed multiple times and it’s a complete dump. I would rather ride a bike around australia.

Okey, so i changed my rating from 2 to a 3 star.. read why.Me and my partner rented a car and from the first day our display didn't work. i.e. the radio, the volume, the regulation.. everything. we contacted Campervanvillage but they just forwarded us to Roadsideteam who gave no help at all. Our AC didn't work properly either. Where it switched from just blowing air to blowing proper cold air. You know when an AC is working. 4 weeks of constant writing with both the roadside team and the Support at Campervanvillage who only sent me between each other, then roadside booked an appointment with the mechanic. Where they stated that they were wrong with the AC but on the spot only gave a temporary solution which they thought would last until we returned the car 3 weeks later but which it didn't. The display was wrong from the inside which they couldn't fix on the spot and we still had to go without it. I think everyone can agree that listening to music while road tripping creates amazing memories and vibes something we couldn't. Also, sitting in a well-cooled car without sweating is something of a comfort you strive for in tropical climates, which we also couldn't experience because of the broken AC. I recommend not booking with these but finding another website/company because if there is something wrong with the car you get, you will not get help. After some time I finally got a compensation back but a very small one compared to the problem and what i paid for but that’s the reason i also changed from a 2 to 3 star because at last they gave you something back.
And the car removed the problem, was good, we freecamped the whole time for 50 days, the freezer was enough with food for 2-3 days so the car was good but tho we had to buy another fan for 1 is just not enough.

DO NOT RENT WITH THEM! AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL TIMES.
Start of January we rented a campervan via Campervan Village from Hobart for a week. When we arrived at the rental place, the woman there told us our car was not ready yet. After a couple of minutes she got us a replacement vehicle, which was a manual and not an automatic like we ordered, but as we wanted to be on our way we accepted. Actually this was a Wicked Campers campervan.
The campervan was horrific. For the price we paid, we did not expect to get such a crappy van. The tires were worn out to the point where they are not roadworthy, the sink was leaking so much that we couldn't do our dishes in it, the ceiling of the van was loose and hanging so that I couldn't sit up right while driving and the pans that came with the van were so bad that we decided to buy a new pan at K-mart to be able to make dinner for 2. Worst of all by far though, was the bed in this van. It was hard as rocks and we woke up multiple times at night due to sore backs and shoulders. Eventually we bought an air matress to be able to sleep a bit better
Of course we did let them know about all this and they told us roadside assistance would be able to help us out. After a few days of going back and forth he offered to refund the pan we bought and the air matress we bought, but he couldn't do much else. Customer service then went in discussion with the board and they agreed to settle the dispute by offering us 150 dollars (which is not a big amount compared to what we paid). Fortunately we read the agreement they sent us well, because it mentioned that if we would tell anyone about the settlement agreement that we made or would leave any review or feedback that could harm there company, we would get a 25,000 dollar fine!! Obviously we did not sign that.
All in all a very bad experience and I do not recommend anyone booking a campervan with them. Please avoid this company at all times for your own sake.
