I have been requesting a statement of the account upon a death date since October 2025. It is now March 19th 2026, and after many long phone calls to etrade, I guess I'm still waiting for a human from Morgan Stanley to actually make a hard copy of the document I requested, and mail it to me. Not sure now if is ever going to happen. I did receive the "go get it yourself" link requiring me to start an additional account with MS. No thanks! Just please mail my document.
Nothing but frustration
My husband passed away four months ago and his Morgan Stanley brokerage account named our family trust as beneficiary. I am the sole trustee.
I submitted all of the required paperwork to open a trust account to receive the transfer and, after more than a month and many calls to Etrade this was finally done. Although the account and funds are in place, Etrade has placed a hold on half of the account. I have made repeated calls to Morgan Stanley and have been given multiple assurances that the issue would be resolved. I was even told two days ago that the problem had been fixed and that I would receive a confirmation call the next morning. The call never came. Again this morning I was told by a “supervisor” after requesting that the case be escalated that he would call back in a few minutes. This was 6 hours ago.
While the phone representatives are polite, commitments are repeatedly not honored and the issue remains unresolved. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering Morgan Stanley to carefully evaluate the firm's ability to handle even routine administrative matters – much less entrust them with your money!
SAVE YOURSELF-THEY DON'T CARE
I am utterly sickened by the beneficiary departments process of transferring funds from our deceased mother's accounts to her beneficiaries. At the most difficult time of life, they add a nightmare. They do not inform you that you are assigned a case manager, if your application has been reviewed, or if your application has been "denied" or "kicked back" due to a mistake. All one can do is continue to call every day and document everything. If I had not started calling in October (2025) after I was informed by the post office that my original applications had been delivered, they probably would not have even opened the package by now. It is now March 2026, and I am having to call 1-2x per week in an attempt to get updates. It is now going on 6 months to no avail. I wish there were recourse, but I have not found it. My family will look into filing a complaint with the SEC.

I recover a check from the IRS for 58,000.00 instead of leaving it alone they froze the account. Told me I had 30 days to remove the funds. But they wouldn’t let me withdraw. They then told me that their security team was reviewing it and told me that I was not getting my money back. They told me that they were having an IRS investigator look into the material. Never heard back from them. Don’t know if the confiscated the funds are not. They refuse to respond back to me. I won’t ever invest with them again.

My wife passed away and I was contacted with a letter that there was some money in an account that my late wife had. To make this simple Morgan Stanley has made it so difficult to get this money they are indifferent, evasive, and never return calls. Their process to receive this money is filled with so many obstacles and hurdles interspersed with misinformation wrong information and lack of information makes you just wanna forget about it.
No complaint process and zero accountability
As someone who worked in the Finance industry my whole career , I’m honestly shocked that any company that relies on trust and customer experience was this inept and unconcerned with their customer’s
service experience or negative reviews .
My employer awarded me shares which were put into a Morgan Stanley trade account. They have since moved traders as all their employees complained about them .
A lot of MS representatives won’t even give you their name when you call, there is no manager escalation , no formal complaint process , complaints can be open ‘ for as long as it takes without a complaint number , no regulation body to which you can escalate your grievances and they don’t interact with lawyers . So basically , if they make a mistake and you can’t withdraw your shares . There is nothing you can do to hold them to account . I’ve been trying for 4 years now , and it’s a significant amount of money .
I would consider myself a cool headed professional , but I actually cried the last time I called them . I felt so defeated , and I don’t accept defeat lightly .
Polite , but absolute zero accountability. So why should they care about a foreigners money.
read reviews here first before using them
I should have come here to read reviews before choosing Morgan Stanley as Amy broker! My god.
There’s no real customer support and hidden charges for everything!
Horrific customer service
Customer representatives and financial advisers have not had proper training. When either my husband or I call, we get inconsistent answers on how to do simple transactions, Roth conversions, etc. I never worked in finance but can provide a better answer or solution than these employees. Also Morgan Stanley made a huge mistake and after 4 weeks of phone calls, we are still arguing with them to correct their mistake. It is shocking how they are running their business. They tried to blame us for their mistake. Fortunately we have physical documentation to prove they did it incorrectly. Plus we have a witness at our bank. Anyone who is doing business Morgan Stanley better make sure you document everything since the employees (customer reps, financial advisors and manager) have been trained to blame the customer first. They blamed and interrogated my husband. He has spoke with a dozen employees and spent many hours on the phone dealing with this. I recommend not doing business with Morgan Stanley since it has been a horrific 4 weeks for us.
Surreal Management availability.
After being an investor for over 10 years at Etrade (Before Morgan Stanley took over). They were great at customer service, and technical features. It seems that is just the end of an age. Getting a supervisor it's just impossible.
There's more brokers, fortunately.
This might explain why New York voters selected a Communist Mayor!
Today, December 5th, 2025, I received another Fake pension check from the Northern Trust (on behalf of Morgan Stanley) where they regularly sent the checks by mail and charged me $35 wire transfer as per the attach two files. It is not even a smart way to scam your own retirees!!!!!
I already returned all 2025 checks by mail dated 11.07.2025 to Morgan Stanley, New York Main Office. I clearly stated that I found their behavior and deliberate inappropriate accounting are truly appalling to any common sense, decency and trustworthiness.
Can anyone imagine how naive you look when you send checks by mail and deduct wire transfer? I just wonder if you are not that smart, why any potential Investors trust your judgement to handle their finances?

My company had some stock options with Shareworks (Morgan Stanley). Once I sold my shares and it took 2 months to get my money back. After calling their office and waiting for someone to answer, and telling those people the whole story from beginning step by step, everytime they only said "I am sorry" and passed me to my bank, and I wasn't able to get my money, until I requested my manager and HR to follow it up and then they transferred my money,
This was such a terrible awful experience with them

My company has unfortunately vested my stock options with Shareworks (Morgan Stanley), but I have never managed to access my account. They have asked me to activate my account and create my credentials, which I did. However, it is impossible to access my account, even though the details are correct. They have blocked everything, and the only channel to contact their support is via phone. I have called them, but they were unable to assist.
With holding funds with any excuse they can.
My Late Auntie and Uncle had a joint IRA with a large amount of money in it. It was to be distributed between 8 beneficiaries 7 overseas in the uk and a Cancer charity in the USA, we needed to get an ITIN number before they could pay out so they could deduct Tax.This in itself wasn’t the easiest of things to obtain ,3 of us got them after applying a couple of times but others haven’t got them yet. ( I know this isn’t anything MS can help or do anything about). One of the beneficiaries sent them his ITIN number in April and still not had his inheritance transferred to his uk bank account yet, They keep making the most stupid excuses they can to save transfering the funds. The date of experience is the date they received one of the Beneficiaries ITIN number.
Unethical Excessive Fees on a Dormant IRA
I had a small, uninvested IRA acct with Morgan Stanley’s Chattanooga branch that sat in a basic holding account for years, earning only one or two pennies a month. No service was provided for this account, and I assumed it was simply inactive. Despite that, Morgan Stanley continued charging a $100 annual “service” fee, which quickly eroded the already small balance.
After realizing what was happening and seeing that hundreds of dollars in fees had been deducted—eroding the principal—I called to question the charges and was initially told the fees could not be reimbursed. After filing multiple claims and going through several escalation steps, I was eventually reimbursed. I’m grateful the issue was resolved, but it required a significant amount of time, effort, and persistence on my part.
Investors should be aware that even tiny, inactive, uninvested accounts can still incur large annual fees—and resolving issues like this may take more work than expected.

Morgan Stanley's support is simply incapable. A bunch of morons. I would recommend to avoid M-S.

Morgan Stanley you should be ashamed of yourselves my best friend passed away nearly 2 years ago . You alone are holding up the distribution of his estate, as well as not helping with closure from his untimely passing .
Shame on you .

If you are a retiree who is drawing down their account, be aware that MS will boot you from their client list if you fall below $500,000. Judging by how volatile the markets have been in recent years, I find this outrageous. Not all financial institutions do this.

Unable to fund a new CD account because they make you wait 60 days before you can link external account.
Also their banking accounts are not compatible with Quicken.
